Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:59 am

would it be a good idea or just stick to having a few people for the rest of your game life that might die and when they do they go away permanently.

I voted "no."

EDIT: Okay, that's actually the truth now that there's a poll added.

Having ANYONE able to become your companion just sounds like a terrible, terrible idea. Just a few, please.

sounds like someone needs to learn how to read unless you can somehow read this too.

TH said there'd be a solid amount of people that can fight along side us, though their personalities aren't fleshed out.

Shame, really. I'd rather have only 6 available companions (a pure mage, pure stealth guy, pure warrior, battlemage, a combat/stealth guy, and a magic/stealth character) and give them each personalities and quests.

This way we can create a party based on tactics. If I'm a battlemage, I'd want a pure warrior in my party to charge in while I weaken the enemy with spells, then charge in to finish them off after my companion weakened them further.

That might be how it is, too. Actually, it's most likely how companions will work. But still, Boone was awesome. NV had some companions that were on the same level as some of the better Bioware companions. Hopefully Esbern is a companion and offers a lot of personal quests beyond the MQ.

Companions are a brilliant idea, i thin k they should have at least 6-10 different companions, each character should have their own style of fighting, companions have never let me down in Fo3/NV, for example you have chosen a side quest and you need to take out a mob of bandits you can swarm the mob or kill them silently one shoot arrows from afar the others go in for the kill, it would be cool if you can send out a companion to go hunting for some meat or what ever you want, some people may not agree with companions they can go solo others can go as a group. :)

I hope we get a few good companions with backstories and personal quest lines and good amounts of dialogue rather than being able to hire anyone to be our mute henchman, devoid of any trace of personality. And yes, I'd like those few really well portrayed companions to be mortal from the beginning to the end, this enhances greatly our responsibility and friendship and besides it prevents the party from becoming unrealistically strong.

I think random people should come up to you such as in a bar or something and ask to be your companion i remember back in 2005 Bethesda made a pirates of the carribean game and you could recruit people in bars

I'm confused as to what the OP is asking. Does he mean anyone as it "anyone" or anyone as in "a few set npcs like Oblivion and Fallout 3". Forming a friendship with someone, then traveling with them could be interesting, but I still prefer New Vegas' companions who actually had personality and fleshed out backstories.

No. What use could I have having the old lady who sells potions be my dragon slaying sidekick?

What I think will happen:

There will be a few companions with depth, background and personality. Additionally, there will be a larger number of companions that will associate themselves with the player character, but will have less depth, background and personality.
