Skyrim Companions: More or Less?

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:57 am

So according to multiple articles when you enter Riverwood Sven and Faenderfal are both courting the same girl.

Faenderfal asks you to forge a leter telling the girl that Sven's not interested. If you do it he joins you on your adventures.

Now my question is do you want to have alot of Companions like Faenderfal. (No interesting story whatsoever) and seems non-essential, Like FONV hardcoe mode,

Or lets say 6 companions that have excellent writing, like Cass or Boone from New Vegas?

I would like to be able to conect with the companions, with good backstory and etc, but i still want them to be able to die... Imortal companions seems very very lame

I'd like 1 to 2 companions at a time.

But I want them to be very hard to die and I want inventory share or whatever.

The former in the poll.

I don't want characters like Dogmeat in FO3; he died almost instantly to everything. That's why they had to add the Puppies perk.

I would have to say excellently written characters, if we just have a barrage of boring non-developed characters that have no interesting back-story what-so-ever, it'll leave a bitter taste in my mouth (metaphor), which goes with my belief: Characters make the story

I never really cared for AI companions, I prefer to adventure alone.

I would like a few possible companions capable of forming an interesting relationship with the player, but also many less interesting NPCs who can become companions. It would be nice if companions could be made essential (or non-essential) via a configuration file, but if I had to pick one I'd prefer non-essential. Some companions should be harder to kill than others, and the detailed ones should be reasonably hardy.

Interesting, but it seems that a dark elf who thinks he owes us a favour for breaking up a bard and a barmaid doesn't exactly seem interesting.

I would like to see many characters that have semi decent stories. I'm not exactly hoping for a new Boone. ( :celebration: to Obsidian by the way, one of my favourite characters in a video game.)

I'd like it if there was an option to turn off the friendly fire for our companions . :poke:

I'd rather have few but useful ones. I don't want to feel like im playing Mass Effect with swords, i'd rather just be a dragonborn that watches regular people die around him

I would like that to, but that would sacrifice at least some companion writing.

I agree with everything but them dying. If I actually get attached to one, and they die, I reload my last save. It could be four hours back, I'll play through everything again to keep him alive.

I just don't see the point behind making you feel for them, and then killing them off in (possibly) something as mundane as them dying in a bandit attack.

This. What's the point of a companion if he/she can't die? It just makes the game easier and gives you some kind of 'meat shield'. I want to care about my companions, make sure they have good equipment and enough potions before I walk into a dungeon or explore the land with them. Of course that system stands and falls with the AI. If the AI makes companions act like idiots it will only cause frustration.

I also think there should be a mix of full-developed companions with backstory, dialogue etc and some simple mercenaries without backstory you can hire. That way you don't run out of companions if a few of them die and you can also make sure to keep the companions you really care about alive.

I want a lot that can die, I can imagine being with my companion for a long time, and when he finally falls in battle I put his body into a respectable position, and let him rest in peace.

for ma a backstory IS nice, but not essential. i can create my own story for them like i did with "the septim 6ix" in oblivion.
like them mortal not immortal. ely

I voted 'a few that never die' but what I wanted to vote was 'a few well written and fully fleshed out with decent backstories and many companion quests'.

An immortal companion would cheapen the gameplay for me imo. NPC companions should be mortal, and their survival should depend on how could at combat/ healing they are, as well as the player's character.
