Skyrim- PC or Console?

Post » Sat Jun 29, 2013 9:40 pm

You have got to be kidding?

Thank you nonetheless.

EDIT :

I'm sorry but I feel compelled to comment, as you obviously don't understand what the quote actually means. I will attempt to explain it to you.

Most people that throw out the use of mods, have never attempted to install them to start with. It's like saying DLCs are more trouble than they're worth.

Some mods do actually increase your framerate like project optimization for instance.

I most certainly understand the concept of sour graqes. I just think it's inappropriate to dismiss my disinterest of mods as if it is invalid. You and others enjoy them, that's fine, but don't assume that those who don't care for them can't have tried them, implying that they would if they had. Nowhere in my post did I say I had or hadn't tried mods, that was an assumption on your part.

I quit Skyrim about 8 months ago, partly due to time constraints, but mostly boredom.

Last month I downloaded the Creation Kit, and learned how to mod, and write some scripts in Papyrus, and look up mods on Nexus.

Anything I was annoyed by in the vanilla game can be fixed, tweaked, or revamped via existing or my own mods. Additionally, there are dozens of mods out there that change the gaming experience for the better. The best part is that "better" is entirely subjective, and there are still mods that make it "better" by any definition.

In short, even if you don't care about it at first, modding can add literally dozens, if not hundreds, of hours to the shelf life of the game. I would probably not be playing anymore if I couldn't make weapons where power attacks shoot light beams that stagger and burn random enemies. If you hate the magic system, like I do, there are simple mods that fix it. If you're annoyed that most of the gear you find is useless, there are mods that make you want to collect random gear to melt down into crafting components. If you're pissed that you need to constantly wait for 2 days between selling your junk to merchants, there's a mod for that, too. I honestly can't imagine that anyone would be interested in the game for more than 3 months without modding.

What you call inappropriate, I call accurate.

You didn't have to say you did or did not. The fact is that when people make comments like that, they clearly do not know what it is to actually use them. I compare them again to DLC. After all, DLCs are nothing but Official Mods.

To try to discredit the ease of use as being the reason why so many people do not use them is ridiculous. I mean if you can install DLC then you can install a mod. If you don't like it... fine.

You keep on believing that if it makes you feel better.

And yet you still haven't said whether or not you've ever tried them. This leads me to believe you never have.

Don't knock mods until you've tried them. I've seen mods that make Beth's official content look like amateurs did it. If, after you've tried them, you still don't have any interest in them, or don't like them, fine, but until then, you should tread carefully on subjects which you don't know much about.

Is that a dedicated graphics card or is it with your processor? What's the cards full name? Unless it's dedicated, it won't work very well.

PC. Mods.

I was a console gamer for about 15 years, then the next 5 its was a console/pc mix, now I'm a pc gamer for almost 15 years. Yeah, I wouldn't go back. The only games I play on consoles are fighting games (Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat) and some sports games. But overall, consoles for me, are an inferior experience. With no mods, no way to improve the game through hardware upgrades... I can just use an xbox controller on my PC, so that's not an issue. For me, I'm not judging anyone else, but for me... consoles are just "redux" PC's with limited game selection. I mean, I have a PC game, Europa Universallis. I've put 1200 hours into it. Not one console game even comes close... because consoles don't do strategy games well. They can't do RTS either.... The selection is far too limited.

In end, I can eventually emulate a console on my PC. A console will never compete with my PC....

Currently I'm playing Skyrim on a ps3. The only reason for this is that I really wanted it, and when I got it, my pc was broken. Since then my wife has basically given me her lap top, and as soon as im able, I will be getting Skyrim and all dlc, and the mods I want, on pc. If you are going to get it on pc, I would wait for the steam summer sales, which will be soon, to see if it goes on sale. Obviously, I would go with pc on this, because its more awesome. Looking forward to playing the DLC and some of the great mods out there, about to drool on my computer...

My main platform is PC, there is no competition. Even playing with an X360 controller.

Now for me as an avid TES collector I also got the X360 and PS3 LE editions. Been doing that for years. Sometimes I like to play Skyrim on my PS3 while lying in bed or on the X360 in the living room. My main PC is more than powerful enough to run it and so is my laptop, but sometimes it is nice to just turn on that damn console and play. It's all about preferences. Nothing wrong there.

As for the collecting, also got the GOTY MW for Xbox, GOTY OB for PS3 (sadly no horse armor for PS3  ), GOTY OB for X360. (yes, i'm thad bad lol)

Now if you'll excuse me, I will be reading DF Chronicles again.

Agreed, but I have to keep the i5 for now. But I'm upgrading my RAM and Graphics card, so hopefully I can see an improvement in my computer. Are games like Planetside 2 more intensive than Skyrim? Because sometimes I have trouble running it.

I have both the 360 and PC versions and I highly suggest the PC version.

i5 is a weak CPU? Riiiiiiiiight...

While Skyrim definitely is somewhat CPU intensive, i5 still is far more than enough to run it. GPU power is less important than in most other games, Skyrim should run well even on less powerful graphic cards / GPUs. Hell, just for comparison my ancient rig (Core 2 Duo E8400, 4GB DDR2, HD4870 1GB) runs Skyrim with almost maxed settings with high res textures at 1920x1200 resolution just fine.
