Skyrim Console Version Debug Menu

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:41 am

I hope they do, because I hate it when a bug/glitch makes it impossible to complete a quest. And on the PC you just have to use the Debug menu and BAM Problem solved, on the consoles if a bug occurs there is nothing you can do about it at all.
In Oblivion, to buy the house in Skingrad (Rosethorn Hall) you have to talk to a specific Orc, but there is a chance that he could simply walk off a cliff and die permanently! Then you couldn't ever get that house!
And That is just one example of the problems you could quickly fix with a debug menu. They could just put the menu under the option menu's options.

What does everyone else think? Is it worth the little extra time to input?

I predict this thread not ending well.

I'm indifferent towards it.

Well It'll turn out how it will. I just want to see what people think, mostly cause I don't see a reason why not.

The developer console.

are you talking about console commands?
because there is a huge reason why it would not work on consoles, no keyboard, so they would be a pain to do
and you may get mods this time
if you are that concerned about it then you can get a computer

I heard Two Worlds II did it. Is it true?

Anyway, yes, I would like some type of debug console. If they must limit it to cheat codes or only certain console command, that's fine by me, but I would very much like something to assist me in dealing with glitches and bugs.

The main reason for having on PC is so that modders can utilize it to test their mods.

Like you mentioned though, it does come in handy on the rare occasion.

Xbox 360 has a virtual keyboard. It is very hard to use, but still usable. And A virtual keyboard could be part of the programing on other Consoles if the need arose.

AND not everyone can get the money out of nowhere to just buy a PC. Or even to rebuild theirs.

Yes, its true. You can access the dev console on the 360/PS3 versions of Two Worlds II.

What you can actually do with hit, I'm not too sure.

Edit: I should mention that you can only open the console at the main menu. Not in game.

Actually, I don't know about PS3 but you can use a keyboard on Xbox, I do all the time for sending pms. Any USB keyboard can be plugged into a 360 and used to type over the virtual keyboard.

Personally, if Todd says they can get mods onto a console there's no reason you can't get console commands, and there'd be no issue with MS over dling stuff like w/ mods. I say they should definitely have it, no reason not to.

Thats what I thought, but it seems there is an issue that nobody is voicing, they just vote and leave it seems.

To all the people who are saying it'd be hard due to lack of keyboard, http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/Xbox-360/Controllers-and-Accessories/Xbox-360-Chat-Pad-Black/~r349995/?s=chatpad

And besides, the virtual keyboard the 360 uses is fine anyway. I'd love the console. It solves many problems.

Text input is not a problem, both the PS3 and 360 have official keypad peripherals: http://www.gamemanx.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/chatpad-compared-ps3-360.jpg

and I also know from personal experience that you can use any keyboard with a USB cable on the PS3 (not sure about 360, don't have one).

It seems to me that a lot of the people against the idea are the somewhat elitist PC gamers. Console commands are a PC thing and peasan console gamers shouldn't get the option and if they want it they should (stock answer) 'get a gaming PC'.
Now I'm not trying to start any arguements or flame anyone here, but that seems to be the case a lot of the time. I'm also the type to dabble in PC gaming from time to time, playing Morrowind and Oblivion on my computer often, so just throwing that out there before I get flamed for my comment.

But back to the topic at hand, I don't see why not - it's been shown to be possible in other games, text input is no problem thanks to USB devices, peripherals and both consoles having virtual keypads and it would obviously come in handy for when bugs occur. I vote yes.

yet they have the money to buy an xbox

and I know about the virtual keyboard, but like I said it would be a pain to use

Show me a PC capable of running Skyrim as well as a console for the same price as one.
You'll need to pay quite a bit more than what you would for a console. No doubt PC produces better results, but at a much higher cost.

People mentioned it on the TW2 forums in the modding section so I assume there not making it up. And I do think console user should have the console, why not?

The people that voted no, how mindlessly selfish can you be? Amazing.

dear god do you guys not listen to the moderators anymore? They have closed so many threads about console commands and masking it by calling it a "debug menu" is not going to fool the moderators. Sorry but this is going to get locked and I am personally getting sick of seeing people post these topics and not listening to the moderators!

Some people just like having things(or stuff they don't care about) only for themselfs or just not there for others because they don't care, makes them feel good I guess. Look at all the post on here where people still want FT removed, even though there are other travel options now or they don't want SR on a Nintendo system.

Some people are just mindlessly selfish(I say mindlessy because they get no benefit from console players not having access to the console).
