Skyrim contains the entire land mass of Tamriel

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:15 am

You can see Red Mountain from the Throat of the World.

Also of course theres going to be land masses beyond the borders. Do you expect there to be nothing and your just on an island connected to nothing?

Well, it would save a lot of memory to not have all that land that you cant see.

Who knows? Maybe its just a massive template they put in place so they dont build from scratch every time? Could be to make modders lives easier, that makes a lot of sense. Or it *could* be for DLC, they were hinting at something big and in-depth if my memory serves me right. Time will tell.

Speaking of Morrowind...why is it that they only have the big walkers for transport there and none of the other provinces?

Yeah that′s usually where background images come in. Especially as there are just a very few spots in Skyrim where you can look beyond the mountains
and everything beyond there is not out of sight distance. No sanse developer would ever build a landmass 5 times larger than the actual game just to have some background mountains.
Especially because Background images usually look much better. See Witcher 2 as an example.

They don't live in other provinces. Thats why you don't see any falmers in Cyrodiil or bears in Morrowind.

Hopefully someone will use the method this guy did to see this much of the world to check out just how big the landmass modelled for the game is? It says in the blog post that he hasn't done it because it takes too long, but I'd really like to see if it's a basic model of the whole landmass of Tamriel. Maybe Atmora as well

Guess you haven't played Operation flashpoint.. LOL.. LOADS of land, fully detailed, with nothing to do.. this is why this game was so broken.

Only a little harddisk memory, for RAM it doesn't matter. It's not like the entire worldspace is loaded in memory at the same time.

I personally have wondered for a while now if it will ever be possible to go to Morrowind, or the Oblivion countries, via a DLC mod or similar (for either the games consoes or PC's). :celebration:
Probably something along the lines of the DLC for expanding on the countries in Oblivion (Shivering Isles, etc.), or even that similar to Fable3 (Knothole Glade, I think it was called).

I would assume you would need the actual games downloaded onto your xbox/system (via either actually possessing the games or a download), surely this could be possible?

Is this actually a possibility?
By the way, I am not a computer programmer, and electronics baffles me! :whistling:

But it would be REALLY cool if we could!

No I haven′t but I worked with nearly a dozen different 3D Engines in my life. No devoloper would invest such an amount of time to build those
areas just because you might see them from a single spot for a very short amount of time. It would be different if Skyrim had no mountains and you
could see far into other regions from nearly everywhere. Also even if you have a spot to look beyond those mountains you won′t see most of what was build because
of the limited view distance.
Anyway I have no real idea why they did it as they did it. I can′t really imagine they plan to cover the whole landmass in the future.
Maybe it′s just a gift for modders.

But actually I wish it was that way. Imagine they would extend Skyrim like MMOs do it. Same engine, same Graphics, same Game Mechanics
but each year you get a new region with a new plot. That would be so great !!! Not like waiting for another 5 years as it was in the past.
Basically like a single player MMO. For the Elder Scrolls series I would even be willing to pay each month. :)

According to the lore it destroyed the entire island. So a volcanic erruption of that size usually just leaves a crater.
Just see what′s left of the former Islands after the Krakatoa or San Torin erruption.

..concerning geology...

No that is not true.
Baar Dau fell and Vivec city was turned into a boiling crater now called the Sea of Ghosts.

Red Mountain exploded and covered much of Vvardenfell in ash and lava.

But it was not completely wiped off the map.
Red Mountain has erupted in the past and Ashlanders know how to deal with stuff like that.

Actually I would like to disagree with you. But according to the screenshots... well yeah it ′s still there
So this point goes to you :)

Possible DLC with game-linking between the past games (at least Oblivion-Skyrim, the graphic shock between Morro-Skyrim might be... well, shocking.)

And before everyone rages about how this will never happen..

..I can hope, can't I? :sadvaultboy:

that explains most of it they wanted the throat of the world to feel even larger but that begs the question why not just have 2d templates? why have actual lands?

It must be photoshoped :)
Because Vvardefell is no more as it was destroyed.

Because Vvardenfell is only a large island north of the mainland, Morrowind is still there.... :)

I dunno, when you make a game as big as this one and cram it onto one disc, every little helps [/tesco]

Personally, I think aiding modders is the most likely explanation.

Although being able to purchase entire new provinces as bolt-ons for the game, the thought of that just might possibly be giving me a semi...

You guys just found this out? I've been exploring all the daedric ruins in old-Morrowind. They're much better now than they were in TES3.

Seems like the put it in so it can be used for DLC. Look at them, they are more detailed than the distant land in Oblivion. Morrowind may have been destroyed but that wont stop it from appearing in DLC. Ever heard of time travel? In a game where people can shoot fire out of there hands and rip apart people by shouting at them, I can see time travel as a explanation for Morrowind being fully intact.

Morrowind wasn't destroyed, it was ravaged by a volcanic eruption, the Dunmer were drived back to Solstheim and Argonians took over most of it.

When I said destroyed I didnt mean damaged to the point of being non existent. Judging by the pictures of Skyrims Morrowind it looks like nothing has happened to it.

Skyrim proved that time travel is impossible in Elder Scrolls.
