Skyrim Crashes After Clean Install

Post » Thu Nov 13, 2014 10:09 pm

I had not played Skyrim for 1-2 weeks and decided to add a few mods (CNHF body) before playing it again. I noticed that the game would crash right before or after loading. So I tried starting a new game in which case it crashes when it about finishes showing the "SKYRIM" title (when it says "Bethesda presents" while you are riding in the cart). I did uncheck all mods, made no difference. After that a fresh install; including deleting all Skyrim files that were not deleted after the Steam uninstall. I also deleted the whole saves and ini folder. Reinstalled DirectX 10. Still no luck. I did not have this problem before.

Running Dell Studio XPS 1640 on W7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53 GHz. 4 GB RAM. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670.

Any suggestions?

Edit: I also updated all my drivers.

Do u use any Mod manager ??? Uninstall everything. You can keep your mods safe in a folder of your choice of course.

How you do it:

First do a standard uninstall. (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features-> Uninstall The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Next, delete your skyrim folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

Then delete your Skyrim directory under Documents/ My Games after backing up your save files if you wish.

Then under C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\ - Delete the Skyrim folder that is in it.
(You should enable to see the hidden files under windows to delete that folder.) HOW: (View - Options - Folder Options - View - Advanced Settings: Show hidden files, folders and drives)

Use Ccleaner after all this (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner), and install your game again, from scratch. !!!!

You don't need to uninstall Steam.

Start a new character, and see if you can make it after the Bethesda logo. (No mods yet...)

----------

BEFORE ALL THIS: Verify your game through steam. < https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 >

Thanks, Mark41. As already explained, I did all this (except for CCleaner). Also, I can get past the Bethesda logo, as also mentioned. Mods are also not my problem, nor are official DLCs as the crash occurs without any of them.

Well. Let's see. You have Vanilla skyrim. No Mods or whatsoever. You can go past the Beth logo. Then what ???

Can you play normally, without any crash ???. You should actually.

btw. Viele Gr?βe aus Griechenland...!!! :D

When I load a save it crashes after it loads, and when I start a new game it crashes when I ride the cart during the intro when it says "Bethesda Softworks presents The Elder Scrolls Skyrim" or something like that. It crashes when it displays "SKYRIM".

Danke, Gru? zurück ;)

What does a clean boot do? Might try adding SKyrim to your AV exceptions list.

Have you verified your game cache files ??? < https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 >

How large is your save file size ???

Have you tried to play offline ???

Any background programs running ??? Antivirus and such stuff ???

It disables start-up programs and services, that might be interacting with the game - in such a way, that you want to test without them running.

That would be the next step to do. !!!

I have checked the integrity of my game files, and I have also tried to play offline. I have also tried adding the Steam and Saves directories to the exception list of my AV program, and have even deleted my AV program, all to no avail. The size of my previous save files is not relevant since I have the same problem with a new game, and since I have deleted the save files and currently have none. Going to try the clean boot now.

Edit: The clean boot seems to make no difference.
