Skyrim: Daedric Gear

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:07 am

I'm very green at Elder Scrolls lore, so I wanted to confirm this before I had my character start using it.....

So, here is my question. Does the Daedric gear we find in Skyrim belong to any specific Daedric Prince? Like does each have their own style of armor/weapons?

I ask this because I don't want to insult Malacath. :P

Each Deadric Prince has his own warriors. The warriors of Mehrunes Dagon wear Deadric Armour, but I am unsure about the others.

Daedric armor and weapons are not the domain of any particular Prince, though Daedric armor is infused with the pain of the Daedra (usually Dremora) destroyed in it's creation. The Daedric artifacts obviously belong to specific Princes.

So, if I were to use a daedric mace, it could be of Malacath?

I don't think so, but it probably wouldn't anger him either.

Question: Does armor like that of the Dark Seducers, Golden Saints, and Aurorans count as Daedric armor? Is it made the same way? Or is it more mundane?

I'm tempted to say that in those cases, the gears they wear are just a part of themselves, an extension of their soul manifesting as equipment. But that's just my speculation.

I suppose we could say that about Auroran and Knight of Order armor (although with the latter, I don't think that was even armor, but just their crystalline bodies) since those armors were never lootable. But the armors of the Aurorans and Mazken were lootable, weren't they? Once you banished them to the waters of Oblivion, you'd think if the armor was an extension of themself, their armor would go with them.

Not sure about that, but I like the sig! ;D

Wasn't the player given a suit during the Shivering Isles questline, though?

True, I didn't think about that, it could be simple armors made of the infinite mass of Sheogorath/Shivering Isles or even special amber/madness arms. I'll just blame game mechanics for now, just like vampires are supposed to turn to ash when killed, until someone writes some awesome monkey truth about it. I am but a novice here and my knowledge is still limited, I wouldn't want to induce anyone in error.

Then why don't their bodies fade away too?

The soul is the immaterial, dimensionless, transcendent essence of a thing. The things it forms around itself, the twisted creatia of its body and its equipment, is just so much extra junk, no more them than your toothbrush is you. When they're banished to the waters, it is only their soul that moves. The things their soul has wrought from cretia are left to lie where they may.

Also, not all of their armor were lootable. Only shields and weapons. The armor is only available by a quest award.

Malacath doesn't care what weapon you're using so long as it smashes things. But, if he were to have a specific type of weapon for his minions, I'd imagine it as the sand from his realm packed so tight as to cut through even the thickest of Breton/Redguard skulls, kept together with ivy from his garden. Also the gem on the pommel looks a whole lot like a corn husk.

No, in Shivering Isles there's a quest where once you beat it you're given Golden Saint or Dark Seducer armor of your very own. And in another quest I remember a Golden Saint commander putting on her helmet partway through.

Any weapons like that in Skyrim? xD

The generic "Daedric" equipment in Skyrim is all Dremoran. It's always been Dremoran. So it's aligned with Dagon I guess, but Malacath wouldnt care... I don't think.
