SKYRIM DEALBREAKERS

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 12:43 pm

Sadly, its just a re-branded modified gamebryo engine which is a VERY big negative for me. The only reason they called it a NEW engine was because a very large response to the announcement of skyrim was "oh, please don't be using that old gamebyro engine", "Think I will avoid this if its using the same engine", "gamebyro is ancient, create a new engine bethesda!" etc..etc.. on most gaming news forums. Its 100% pure PR BS to svcker reluctant people into buying it, it isn't the first time that bethesda has flat out lied about their games to get a sell. Honestly, just watching the trailer told me it was still the gamebyro engine, oblivion looked just as good and the little bit of NPC action/movements are EXACTLY the same from oblivion. So, I am really saddened that I will have to suffer through gamebyro once again, it might look prettier and run a little better, but it wills still have a bunch of left over warts and possibly some new ones.

However, that isn't a deal breaker, just a big negative. Another huge negative is that if the games feels dumbed down, even fallout, while better, felt pretty dumbed down in character interaction wise, I want to actually have some dialog besides just quest related stuff. Sadly, bethesda isn't known now for their great character interactions. Still not a deal breaker.

Overall, I will get this probably, HOWEVER, I will NOT be buying it on release day. The deal breaker is DLC! Sorry bethesda, I stopped buying games a while back that have DLC(you got me with fallout, learned my lesson), I just can't stand to feel like I am getting an incomplete game. I will probably borrow a friends copy to play, but I will not buy the game till the GOTY edition with all DLC is released. I have not bought fallout new vegas yet for this reason and I will not be buying Skyrim for the same reason.

The graphic quality and animations do not tell you what the engine is like at all.

For me a Dealbreaker would be Steamworks, A Steam option is fine though

^This or any DRM that requires online connectivity for the retail-disk version of the game. Also, the game needs to be good, which I'm sure it will be.

100+ hours of content is incomplete? What games do you normally buy?

For some reason the only thing I can think of is if it feels too much like Oblivion, but I don't think there is much chance of that.

Just what is already confirmed in the game now already is enough to make me want to play it, that means that no matter how horrible everything else is i will still play this game. the worst thing that can happen is that i'll be surprised over how bethesda screwed t his game up. but bethesda has yet to completely let me down, even fallout 3 which was series that they just picked up off the ground and made a sequel to was good, better than their trademark elderscrolls 4 in my opinion really, they put a lot of effort into fallout 3. But you can count on this. Bethesda game studios will make games as well as they possibly can with current technology and all the tools that they've got. sure the graphics MAY be going to be not cutting edge, but they will throw their best at every game that they make, (thats what they've done so far and are doing with skyrim) and they will make a Good Game oblivion was a good game, but many morrowind fans hated it because morrowind was more immersive. oblivion was still a great game if you looked at it it just had a bad storyline, its just that people compared it to the epic morrowind but not every other game around, its kindof like this thing where people tell you you should compare yourself with yourself and not the guy next to you. also everything bethesda wont take care of, modders will.

Out of respect for the developers making this game i am going to buy every game that Bethesda Game Studios (not softworks, game studios) will make or have a big part in making until they will end up like blizzard, a company that is highly overrated, blizzard fans tend to say that every game blizzard makes is the best game ever, to me blizzard games have never been "best of its kind" but they have been good games. world of warcraft was a let down and they aren't such a great company anymore. they joined up with activision and activision was also once a GREAT company, but now its more mainstream and mass media-ish.

Bethesda Game Studios is still making games to make Good Games! not to make profit,(sure they want to make profit, thats their job, but they're dedicated to making the best game that they can everytime they start with a project) and as stated in an interview with someone i don't remember, maybe that Pete Hines one, Then the publishers aren't pushing them on what time they need to finish the game and are very reasonable and understanding about how long it will take to make the game because they realize that the reason those games are purchased is because of how good they are and how well designed they are, and if they push the developers then they know that the overall quality of the game will go down and therefore they're going to have less buyers. Until this changes i'm gonna buy their games. :foodndrink:

i was thinking about how cool this game is gonna be and then i thought about all of the bad stuff that could happen that would make me not buy the game.. a big one for me is the morrowind combat system how its done by percentage of a chance of a hit so you swing ten times and only three count..i hated that so much..other things like if it was too main stream and if there were no factions..stuff like that would make me not buy the game..obviously there is gonna be factions but you get the idea.. what are some deal breakers for you. if i get enough ideas ill make a poll

EDIT: when i say not by the game obviously we are all gonna by it and hopefully get through it once because i mean come on we are on the forums lol..but what stuff would make you stop playing it mid way through or not more than once

a bland New Vegas-like world, or heck just the technical problems that game had would shy me away for some time. I still have Oblivion and Fallout 3 to entertain me if things go sour.

Then again, this thread isn't exactly shining with positivity...come on folks, let's try to keep things cheerful.

A couple things come to mind:

1) Too expensive or my computer won't run it.
2) Dull, blah, unoriginal setting. I like the feeling of an alien world.
3) A game with little depth, as boring dialogue choices, simple quests, lack of brain food.
4) Too glitzy, and I'm really afrid they've gone this way with the "gee I can see my weapon in 3D", or "finishing moves", or things like that.

i dont think looks have to do with the game engine but i could be wrong..if it does i will try to find the thread that did this..they compared pics of skyrim to OB and im sorry but skyrim is in a whole different league compared to OB..it makes OB look awful. Also a great game engine can put out a bad game because developers dont know how to use it.. If a developer knows gamebryo inside and out..then it could be epic and i think Bethesda does..ill look for that thread its an incredible difference

You know what REALLY svcked on 360 with Oblvion (not so much for Xbox Morrowind at least not from my experience). Game breaking glitches. with my first character i:

a )couldn't finish the mages guild (i went into a well too early, didn't retrieve the item, and then i didn't come back for a while and it disappeared)
b ) I couldn't finish the Hermeus Mora Quest
c ) i couldn't finish the Umbra Quest (until an update finally came out)

I HATED this so much. they really need to make sure none of this is in when the game ships (i think they fixed the mages guild problem, but my game was already wrecked)

There is NOTHING in THE WORLD that WOULD MAKE ME NOT TO BUY SKYRIM!!!!oneone!eleven1 But some things that would make the game worse is AGAIN making THE RADIANT AI worse! (They had to dumble it down to Oblivion, but i hope they wont lie this time.)

Oh and for that post above mine, I could not finish thieves Guild. Oblivion was my first TES game and i hadn't really played Rpgs
(now i love them(even Fable III)) i think it had something to do with the fact that i killed 10 people on one quest and attacked (by mistake) at the Khajiit Questgiver... even if i paid the bloodmoney i could not go on.

Hmm... It'd take quite a bit to make me not even want to bother. Basically they'd have to screw up a bunch of lore, make vampires/werewolves lame or not even flesh them out at all, or slap on another generic main quest that can barely keep me interested.

Poor mod support would make me not to buy the game. Every other matter has been confirmed not to be in. I might not buy the game if I can't have pole-arms though, but I doubt myself on this.

it wasnt that.. in the thieves guild once you are far enough to where people come find you to get quests there is a problem with mithril and there is a small percentage of a chance that instead of running to find you she runs away from you..it sux and she is very fast..basically if you are in leyawin she is running in bruma hahaha..if crap like that happens then ya that would be a deal breaker for me

TOO EVERYONE..read my edit..i know everyone is gonna buy the game because we are die hard fans but what would make you stop mid way through or not play a second time
