Skyrim DLC...Not like Oblivion!

Post » Sun Aug 14, 2011 9:02 pm

Oblivion's DLC...a bit iffy for me. I absolutely LOVED the Shivering Isles, so please don't flame me for that. But Knights of the Nine...bored me.

Yes there were other smaller DLC for OB like Vile Lair and horse armor (at least I think so).

In Skyrim I'd love to see DLC like Shivering Isles, but not stuff like Knights of the Nine.

Stuff I want:

-Quest packs (adding about 15-20 new quests around the world of Skyrim)

-Item packs (like Dragon Age II's, which had stuff like warrior packs, mage packs, rogue packs, ect., which contained items for the class)

-New dragons!

-1 new city...?

-Horse/Horse armor

-Mansion/Homes (which are probably already in the game, but a huge BA mansion with maybe a side quest to go with it would be cool)

-Factions DLC? (either new factions you can download or downloading quests FOR that faction)

-Themes and Picture Packs for your console! (love to see a Skyrim theme for my 360)

-Perks DLC!

Ok I have a lot on my mind, so please reply what you think of my ideas!

I like expansions, rather than DLC. That's all I got to say :)

Umm.

I loved SI, but indifferent for the rest, how am I supposed to vote in the first section?

Anyways, I'd only want DLC's to be huge, with a lot of quests, new areas, NPC's, items and even new spells! All in one. Like Si.

I hated the DLC's for oblivion except the shivering isle's. At this point I don't want to see any dlc at all. The dlc in morrowind where a bit fun bot nothing u really needed same with oblivion.

Well.. you have to consider that when Oblivion came out, DLC was a pretty new concept. Game makers were unsure of how much content to add, how much to charge for content.. all that stuff. At the time we were only used to add-ons. Add-ons were sold separately and you'd pick them up at stores. Now that downloading has become so easy a DLC now generally is a game add-on.
That's just how fast things have changed in the past few years.
So to answer the question. Would I like seeing tiny little add-ons like horse armor and books and feel kind of ripped off by actually purchasing them? No. Would I like an add-on size DLC like Shivering Isles? Of course.

Quest packs sound really cool. A few unique, average sized quests per pack would be awesome.

I loved Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and Mehrunes Razor.

The rest, I could have done without. I believe they have mentioned they would rather do large expansions than work on a ton of different DLC's this time around, and I'm glad to hear that.

Oblivion's DLCs were ok. One of every faction or character type, mage, thief, assassin/vampire/evil, warrior/BIG CASTLE OMG with extras, an extra daedric artifact, and the joke dlc horse armor. The expansions were alright as well. The knights of the nine felt more of a small add on than an expansion,, but it was alright and really added something for the good character. The Shivering Isles is by far the best expansion, mostly because that plane of oblivion is more interesting than the province of Cyrodiil. I'm hoping we'll see more oblivion gates in future Skyrim expansions! Azura? Hermaus Mora? Gotta love em!

I prefer expansion packs like bloodmoon and tribunal from morrowind, but the stuff in the OP (Item packs, quest packs, house packs) that's just dumb, it should be stuff already in vanilla

I like that they're doing big DLC's, hopefully they'll be using some of the area surrounding Skyrim, like some of the mainland of Morrowind, or I wouldn't mind venturing down to Bruma in Cyrodiil, since its a nord town, and see how things have changed in the last 200 years.

I enjoyed the glorified housing DLCs (Vile Lair, Wizards Tower, etc.), but felt that the quests associated with them were pretty bland. I really enjoyed the Shivering Isles. Mehrune's Razor was a nice addition, but should have been bundled in as a quest for one of the other DLC's or something. As for Knights of the Nine, my main complaint is that it really didn't have much to offer for the more dastardly characters, even if you could go to the shrines and absolve yourself of your crimes, it really didn't fit the character.. So future DLCs need to cater to everyone better. As for the Horse Armor.. well, hey, it is what it is.. it was one of the first experiments in DLC and it didn't turn out so great. Personally, I think there should be a hook in Skyrim that checks to see if you have the Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion and makes it available to you in Skryim as well.

I just hope that they include something similar to the Warrior's Stronghold in vanilla Skyrim, but I'd like to see it involve something more or in addition to gold to upgrade, etc. and I'd like it to be fully functional for differing class types, not just meant for warriors (have all types of crafting stations available, training areas for all skills, not just melee combat, etc.) I'm on a console, so the more of these types of interesting, detailed and unique forms of housing, etc they can put in, the better.

All of the add ons were a waste of time, ESPECIALLY fighters stronghold and mehrunes razor.

Knights of the nine is pretty cool but ultimately too short. So was Shivering Isles, I would have liked to see more quests, although as far as DLC goes I still think SI was the best DLC for any game, period. It added so much. However as an expansion pack I would go as far as to say it falls a bit short.

I'm hoping with Skyrim just as Todd has said that DLCs will be fewer, but bigger and better.

I loved Shivering Isles - it is one thing that gives me hope that Skyrim may turn out alright in the end. And I would love full scale expansions instead of that small DLC nonsense.
In TES DLC has to compete with mods, and compare favorably to them, non but Shivering Isles did - archeology guild was bigger, better and had more interesting contend than Knights of the Nine, and it was a free user made mod. I'm not even talking about the houses... They are just a rip off for console users who can't get a castle on the private island in two clicks like PC...

They learned a lot with Fallout 3 DLCs, compared to those for Oblivion. Not going to be surprized at all if they are comparable to those for FO3.

The best thing would be expansions a la Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Shivering Isles but Todd has already said that they will be smaller than a full expansion, but larger (and fewer in total) than the Fallout 3 DLC. Which is almost just as good.

Oh hurray I'd love to see some horse armour for Skyrim :D

Some DLC where you go to Black Marsh would be nice or a DLC similar to Point Lookout in FO3 where you meet a guy in a mansion where you are attacked by Tribals but instead a Skyrim version where a Baenlin looking person has invited you to his mansion far from town and you are attacked by bandits. So he sends you and his bodyguard Gromm to deal with it :D

Todd Howard has said that Skyrim will have bigger but fewer DLC's than oblivion then said 'like the size of shivering isles' so there will probably be more expansions than small little dlc's like KotN
