Skyrim DLC to be on Xbox 360 First for "months"

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 9:38 pm

I don't think people understand that this has little to do with Bethesda, at all. It's Microsoft offering them a lot of money, and they are taking it, as well they should.

Bethesda is a business. What do businesses do? They make money.

The respectable businesses still maintain a level of integrity.

So 30 days is "months now"?

they did it with fallout 3 dlc for ps3

1 month they said, mid september they said....

and we only got them mid December, and DLCs with poor performance too.

So much for treating all platforms equally eh Beth?

Its called business. Bethesda isn't favoring Xbox just for fun, its because Microsoft pays for things like this.

People, what's the point of arguing if we don't even know how crappy the DLC will be?

Todd has always shown favoritism towards the Xbox360. This isn't surprising.

Well I guess MY money is worse than people on the 360. Good for them, but this just guarantees I wont be buying DLC's at all and prowling the mods instead (which are usually 10x better anyway)

Principle... it's primarily about the principle of it all and the adding insult to injury vibe I get from it.

As posted in the last thread:

In a way, we PC gamers are being punished by Microsoft for Bethesda's decision to use Steam instead of GFWL.

I wish Bethesda would stop agreeing to this bull. It's one thing for the consoles to be warring, but PC gamers shouldn't be victimized as a side effect.

It's ok, it won't be long before PCs are so ridiculusly powerful that there wont be a need for a streamlined computer dedicated solely for gaming. With consoles getting increasingly larger OSs, they will defeat their own purpose.

Hardware is getting cheap people,...its the one thing you cant count on that will never increase in price.

Btw good move Bethesda, MS is paying for time,......make the cash I say.

It's not really that big of an issue. Most of us will still be playing the game. 300+hours of content, remember?

It's a matter of principle to some. Also, if the DLC was poorly optimized like it was for Fallout 3 what's even the point of buying the game on release if it's clearly NOT optimized for the system you prefer?

As someone, and myself have stated, I think Skyrim PS3 will make a nice GOTY purchase at a cut price.

So 30 days is "months now"?

Ok, let's break this down.
The article states that the DLC will be on the Xbox 360 Marketplace for 30 days exclusively per DLC.
They said they are doing this for the "first two major content DLC's".
2 30 day increments = months.
I don't see why people are making a big deal out of this.

The respectable businesses still maintain some a level of integrity.

I don't see it as losing integrity, I see it as a company, who struggles to make money in this medium because of things like resells and piracy, wanting to make money.

I rarely buy DLC but of course the game I plan on doing so, releases them late. I guess the mods will have to wipe away the tears.

Do they ever really release the official (wait, I should say true, not official) reasons behind choices like this? It would be nice to get an honest answer of, "Yeah, XXXXX paid us 5 million $US to concentrate of the X360" or whatever. 'Cause I often wonder what happens behind the scense when a company decides that it's reasonable to make choices like that. I don't really think it's going to be too much of a big deal, as I'm used to waiting longer on PS3, but still... I have to wonder how they rationalize.

And because it's "Just Business" does that make it right? Beth has been doing this since Oblivion, we [censored] and moan but we still go out and buy Beth's crap that we have to mod to make it enjoyable (Oblivion). I've given up on Beth. Daggerfall and Morrowind were the most important games in my childhood, TES lore was as good as any novel, but Beth has become almost as bad as EA and Activison and I can no longer support such business practices. I will not be purchasing Skyrim.

Unfortunate.

Is this due to tweaking for one xbox vs the myriad of pc's, and therefore just Bethesda capitalizing on logistics?

I think it's intersting that people have such a strong desire to have something "first" or "now" that a company is willing to pay big bucks for that exclussivity. Maybe that's the most unfortunate part :(

Are you really going to get an "injury vibe" if the DLC is like "Colored horse poo" (horse armor jokes are [censored] outdated) or something? I wouldn't mind it at all.

Competition? From those two series? I doubt it. They should make plenty of money off of Skyrim itself. What is the explanation for other companies that seemingly reject any platform favoritism?

After the first 30 days we'll get the first piece of DLC, while 360 gets the second. Then after another 30 days, PS3/PC get the 2nd piece of DLC. It's not that 360 gets the first 2 pieces before anyone gets either.

Nope, it will work like COD does.

Been nice knowing you! No doubt since you won't be purchasing Skyrim we won't be hearing from you on these forums! Gonna miss you! :P The continued inequities of our world will always be regardless of how much we don't want them to be. For myself I will be too busy playing Skyrim to be worrying about an initial release of DLC, after all, it gives us non-Xbox users time to watch all the bugs get worked out and a patch created. :) Cheers and have fun doing whatever you'll be doing instead of playing Skyrim.

The "injury" exists from a combination of waiting for Fallout 3's DLC, discovering the terrible, rip-off quality of Fallout 3's DLC, hearing about another delay for New Vegas' DLC, only ever hearing about how well-optimized the 360 version of Skyrim is, only ever seeing the 360 version of Skyrim, and completely disregarding any potential to acknowledge, well, anything about the PS3 version of Skyrim. I don't even feel as if this company even considers me a part of their fanbase, at times, based on my platform. They direct pretty much everything at the 360.

don't count on that if the quality in performance of fallout 3 DLC is to be any indicative.
