Skyrim DLC to be on Xbox360 first

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 11:05 pm

meh...
mods > DLC

This is exactly how I feel. While DLC can add some stuff that is interesting, they're limited. They never evolve past what they are released as (unless you count fixing bugs as evolving), while a mod can continue to add new features over time. And mods are free :)

So how come it's ok for Sony to do this? They have done this many times. Why is everyone harping on Bethesda and Microsoft? It's not that bad. 30 days. With Sony's exclusivity, it's Sony only no other platform. So Bethesda is doing a good thing, for timed only and not 360 Only. To me that is showing thier fans and customers respect.

When has Sony ever done this? And no, that's not showing the rest of us respect. If they respected PC/Ps3 customers as much as their 360 customers, they would release content universally and not sell out, like they've done for their past two games.

Oh, and yes, it is 360 exclusive. Us PC players don't get it either. From the Bethblog:

Earlier this morning, Microsoft announced that the first two pieces of game add-on content for Skyrim will be releasing exclusively on Xbox 360 — 30 days before they’re available anywhere else. When we have more details on the content, we’ll let everyone know.

I don't mind waiting for DLC, on the bright side xbox gets all the bugs first and the PS3 gets the fixed version :) there's always a silver lining.

Point Lookout would disagree with you. I lost count of how many times I had to hard reset my Ps3 playing that excuse of a DLC. That was one of the things that influenced my switch to PC for Bethesda's games. (That and mods, of course.)

Truly don't understand the business world at all. You got to have trade offs in this world. You get free PSN but because of that Sony doesn't put in the extra money towards getting time or regular exclusives for their console. 360 users pay 60 dollars to live every year for this very reason. Game developers got to make money too

You've just induced déjà vu. I've had this conversation at least twice now. Yes, I understand that game developers need to pay the bills, just like anyone else. But they're in a bit more of a delicate situation than other professions, as they have a very divided fanbase. When they take part in "trade offs," you're dividing said fanbase even further, and not in a good way.

And, as I've said numerous times, I'm getting Skyrim for PC - not Ps3. I don't care about whether PSN is free or not, in this case.

Oh right, is that why my Fallout 3 PS3 DLC kept freezing, bloating memory files, and revealed plenty of oversights and general crappy quality compared to the 360 version... because the PS3 got the fixed version? I mean no offense, but that claim is worthless... one hundred percent worthless. There is no silver lining. Bethesda treats non 360 playing fans like crap, again (notice how everything about the game is showed on, optimized for, and made for the 360), and I mean it when I say that's it. That's where I draw the line. This is crap, by principle it's despicable, and in sales and profit for Bethesda, it's at least lost this customer.

Microsoft pay for earlier content... No one can say that Bethesda are un-loyal to their other customers, it's just because people that have Xbox Live have to pay for their online services, PSN, Steam and Google for you crafty ones are all free.

Edit:

Lmfao, c'mon... We all know you're gonna be buying Skyrim the day of release and you know it too... It's not that they have no respect or treat their other customers like crap... It's that Microsoft can afford to pay them for earlier content... Ps3 svcks anyway, lol. That console has so many problems it's just disgraceful.

As a PC player I am now hoping the first two DLC packs are Horse Armour Deluxe and More Mudcrabs.

I don't understand why are they already making dlc, if they have extra time they should perfect skyrim by putting arenas and werewolves! Not making dlc when the game doesnt even come out for three months:(

Skyrim is going through QA at the moment, which means most of the designers and artists are free to work on other projects. They could all be moved to Bethesda's next game, or they could be put on a team working on DLC. However it won't impact Skyrim's content (which is pretty much set in stone at this point) or QA testing (which is handled by other people).

It's also possible that some DLC were planned ahead so hooks could be left in to help them integrate. Morrowind and Fallout 3 were releases without any such hooks and in some cases this made certain DLC rather awkward. Oblivion's hooks had their own problems (doors you couldn't open, roads to no where) but Bethesda has acknowledged these problems and if they try a second time I think they'll do much better.

I've never heard this before, and how could it be old? The time stamp on the article is 10 minutes ago

He said that cause the TES forum community goes complete ape [censored] on you for posting something old. He was afraid that would happen, even though it said 10 min ago. He was apologizing in advance.

lol

Anyway, I really don't see what the problem with Bethesda having a favorite platform is. And Microsoft wants to have content availible to their members as early as possible, and they're willing to pay for it, what's the problem with that

But it's not a question of Microsoft paying for earlier content for Xbox players. It's a question of Microsoft paying Bethesda to delay content for Ps3 and PC players.

That is the problem.

Well that svcks. Why should PC and PS3 gamers have to wait a month to get access to DLC? Thats just stupid...

This is insulting to us in the mod community. You want Bethesda to charge you for DLC, when some of us are planning on skipping the game at release to learn the new CS to pump out awesome free content within the first week.

If you're on PS3, then you have my sympathy.

More like FO3, with Oblivion the game itself wasn't ported to the PS3 until well after the initial PC/XBox360 release - and when it arrived it was bundled with extra content.

With FO3 the PS3 version was released at the same time as the others but the DLC was delayed.

Yep, MS probably paid quite a lot for the exclusive rights and that money helps fund more content. I'm OK waiting a bit longer for the first few DLC if it means I get more of them. It also means that once DLC start arriving there's less of a gap, XBox 360 users will probably end up with a long period between DLC #2 and #3.

Good,....good,...I like to see money spent on something worthwhile. i.e. extra salaries so we'll have 1000 custom dungeon in TES 6: Nirn.

ya but just think how long xbox and ps3 players have to wait for mods.....

Theres a good lad.

Exactly. Ever since Microsoft got into the gaming things took a massive nose dive imo. Now PS3 users have to sit in the backseat simply because they are paid to make them.

It is business. If you are so bent out of shape about it then go to Sony and tell them to do something about it. This is about who can get the upper hand the race of consoles.

Well, I don't usually pass up on opportunities to express my displeasure with consoles and all that, but this time I think I will. As long as no DLCs are console exclusive (uh please no) then I'm okay with not being able to get them on the first day... especially since I've never done that. I'll still have mods anyway, so yay.

PC and PS3 users should get their first DLC for free in return. They evidently don't want our money anyway, so what do they have to lose.

Microsoft freely admits that it pays for exclusive, or timed exclusive, DLC and its a part of their business model.

Exclusive content - even if it's only for a set period of time - is crucial for differentiating the Xbox 360 from the PlayStation 3 and Wii, Microsoft's European boss Chris Lewis told Eurogamer.
