Skyrim's Elves vs LOTR Elves

Post » Sat Sep 14, 2013 7:17 pm

Hey guys!

I've always LOVED elves for their grace and beauty. Skyrim being my first Elder Scroll game, I expected the Elves to look like World of Warcraft Elves or Lord of the Rings Elves, I was quite...surprised to see these alien looking Mer. Skyrim Mer may not look like the others in movies, but they are unique and original, I can see how someone could prefer them to the original god-looking Elves. I must admit that Iike the god-looking Elves, though

Now, what do YOU think?

I'll always prefer TES' mer over LOTR, mostly because I couldn't get into LOTR.

TES elves always felt more genuine and real to me than LOTR elves. I mean I love me some LOTR, but I have an easier time imagining Men and Mer coexisting than Men and Elf, if that makes sense.

TES elves are better, IMO.

They actually look like a different species as opposed to pretty humans with long ears.

I like LotR, but TES has cooler elves IMO because they are not so "perfect" and "god-like".

Also, I got sick of elves that resemble humans with pointed ears.

Quendi look like Men is because they are both Children of Iluvatar... they're related. Ish. Also being completely different wouldn't work well with Earendil, Elros, Elrond etc, and they're kind of important to the story.

The main difference is that TES elves are retextured Klingons :P whereas Peter Jackson's elves are humans with wigs and powder.

The beards alone on Skyrim's kill LOTR elves. Even without it....Dunmer.

Pssh... who needs beards when you have Silmarils? And Aragorn. Aragorn is part Elf, you know.

men and mer are both descendant from the elhnofey. So they are related as well.

TES elves would kick LOTR elves' sorry little asses just by looking at them. :D

I adore the fact that TES mer aren't made to be pretty, beautiful, ethereal, all that. They look like a completely different race, and they look great in their own way, not like humans with long hair and pointy ears.

Ok, in Skyrim, that is. In some previous games (*cough*Oblivion), not so much.

Quendi being the same ones that fought Morgoth in person, and nearly won... I doubt it. And Fingolfin wasn't even the strongest of them, that honor goes to Feanor. And a half-elf killed Ancalagon the Black.

I haven't seen LoTR enough to make me like them.

So even though Skyrim is my first TES, I prefer these elves.

Nicolas cage could have been Aragorn. I would have loved it but hated it at the same time.

Nick Cage wouldn't have worked. All Sauron would have needed for an army was a jar of bees.

I'm with you I would perfer pittier looking Elves and the Elves in Oblivion were much better looking then the ones in Skyrim. I always play as a woodelf always so in Skyrin i go to the Dark brotherhood early in the game to get the DB light armor so that I can get that mask with only the eyes showing to cover up that V shaped face. I don't know why they made the elf races so ugly ,they should have been better looking.
