Skyrim followers

What do you think they should do about followers in Skyrim? Followers were one of my favorite parts of Oblivion.

i feel they are doing something along the lines of companions than followers so they wont be as useless.. however they should give us an adoring-fanesque character.. just so we can take him up the high mountains and see how far he will fall

I think rather than generic NPCs that follow you from guilds they should have a few characters that suit each playstyle.
If you don't do it in depth then why bother. The awkward commands were annoying and AI was terrible, DB member following you should be cool but it wasn't.

I really would love to see another character like Adoring Fan, and probably for just that reason, everyone likes to push him around.
As for companions, that sounds really exciting, I would love to have a beast rather than a human NPC.
A minotaur would be pretty cool.

I didn't keep him as a companion and didn't abuse him before I let him go. I've heard about some videos on youtube about that and haven't looked at them yet. One of my favorite things about Fallout NV is the companions with their great personal quests and I hope there's a great companion system in Skyrim. I'd like it if it was like FNV so they couldn't die if you chose casual play...assuming they have another option like hardcoe or something. That was one of the hardest things for me in Oblivion - keeping companions alive and I kept replaying things until I had that outcome. It was just more fun. :)

I think there should be some mercanaries, or "adventurers" avalaible in dungeons or taverns that you visit randomly. Much like the guy in mournhold they would charge some salary, and you could then re-equip them if you wanted to; great for some extra storage space anyway, and most importantly adds some extra depth and realism into the game.

I agree with this, to be able to go somewhere and just take someone onto your group (assuming you could have more than 1 follower, which I think would be cool).
I would like to be able to walk into a tavern and find a worthy warrior to take with me on adventures! :D

But, yeah. Other than killing him in clever ways, I didn't find much of a use for him. He was damn annoying, though.
