Skyrim for £27.91

Post » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:09 pm

Okay I was just looking at pre-ordering (I'm going to get the collectors edition hopefully) and I saw this on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-PC-DVD/dp/B004G5YW5Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1304421514&sr=1-1

Is it just me who doesn't understand amazons system or does it really only cost £27.91?

£27.91 = $46 USD <--(current real-value according to google.http://www.google.com/search?q=%C2%A327.91+to+dollars&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a.)

Since Amazon UK are based in the Channel Islands you don't pay VAT buying from them which combined with lower costs from being an online store means they can seriously undercut UK high street stores.

edit: that price is for the PC version, the console versions are £38.91

Oh darn its the pc version. Why are console version a full £10 more expensive? I highly doubt the blu-ray disc costs any more than 5p extra than a regular disc, and the PC version can be modded.

Such is life :sadvaultboy:

Cheapest I can find for console is on zavvi which has a cover art ive never seen for skyrim , could be alduin I dunno check it out

this, meaning console versions cost around $64

and DO consider yourself lucky (well, at least if you're a console gamer you HAVE to) as the price of games on amazon.co.uk is about the lowest in europe.
The rest of us € guys (I'm French) would have to pay from http://www.google.com/search?q=%C2%A327.91+to+dollars&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&source=hp&q=%E2%82%AC49%2C99+to+dollars&aq=f&aqi=&aql=f&oq=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=b08b13f1c13fec94/http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&sugexp=gsish&xhr=t&q=%E2%82%AC59,99+to+dollars&cp=17&qe=rDU5LDk5IHRvIGRvbGxhcnM&qesig=JU4Xv9JsV7_J9xTPRRrNjA&pkc=AFgZ2tkiTr_tFKZ2eqSoS3RTLq0N1He2jZ16ORd3feoiyD6IX1AmCZtB7fc0S-Ckwi8lmZT9bN0DVQS17yBJmCNrxL_2C73Oog&pf=p&sclient=psy&site=webhp&source=hp&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=%E2%82%AC59,99+to+dollars&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=b08b13f1c13fec94 (PC/Console) (http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_de_DE=%C5M%C5Z%D5%D1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=skyrim&x=0&y=0) to usually http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&sugexp=gsish&xhr=t&q=%E2%82%AC59,95+to+dollars&cp=17&qe=rDU5LDk5IHRvIGRvbGxhcnM&qesig=JU4Xv9JsV7_J9xTPRRrNjA&pkc=AFgZ2tkiTr_tFKZ2eqSoS3RTLq0N1He2jZ16ORd3feoiyD6IX1AmCZtB7fc0S-Ckwi8lmZT9bN0DVQS17yBJmCNrxL_2C73Oog&pf=p&sclient=psy&site=webhp&source=hp&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=%E2%82%AC59,99+to+dollars&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=b08b13f1c13fec94/http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#sclient=psy&hl=en&site=webhp&source=hp&q=%E2%82%AC69%2C95+to+dollars&aq=f&aqi=&aql=f&oq=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=b08b13f1c13fec94 for AAA games in France (http://www.amazon.fr/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_fr_FR=%C5M%C5Z%D5%D1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=skyrim&x=0&y=0#/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85Z%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=mass+effect+3&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amass+effect+3)

Yeah, I was quite surprised when I got a gaming pc how cheap the games are. I'll be waiting to see whats in the collecters/special/whatever edition though. The english version of the DA:O collectors edition was, wait for it, a cardboard sleeve and three in game items. Wow. I doubt Skyrim collectors edition will get that treatment though.

I'm sure it will go even lower when closer to release. Such is the fish-eat-fish market in the UK.

That's how MS and Sony make money with their consoles. They are both vastly cheaper than their production cost and developers pay an added fee (which is about those 10 bucks) to them for each sold game.

Nice find Awia

It`s also £27.99 with free delivery on Play.com . I tend to buy from Play as I`ve always found them quite fast for delivery.

@Boog_89 - Yeah thats another downside for us console owners.

I`ll still happily pay the extra £10 though for this game, as I think it will be worth it

I must say, it's 13,44 € less than I'll get my Skyrim with. (that is 31€). What a low price. Does transportation to your front door count into the price? On mine it does :P Ok so that is PC, which means I'll get my version just as cheap as you get yours :)

£27.91 is a pretty decent price, was expecting to have to pay more than that!!

BTW, the console people complaining at the extra price, you only have to pay an extra £10, I'm gonna have to pay about £500-£700 to get a PC to play this so, don't complain too much!!

Console games cost more because game developers have to pay a fee to Microsoft/Sony to use their console. Essentially, Microsoft/Sony are the middlemen allowing game developers access to a lot of gamers. There is no middleman for PC, so it is always cheaper.

I wouldn't take Amazon's price seriously to be honest, as they are having a "sale" on a game that isn't even out for another six months.

No, but my computer is very outdated, and can barely play oblivion. My point is that consoles are very cheap in comparison to building a decent gaming PC.

So yeah, I will have to buy a new PC if I want to play Skyrim.

Depends on what oyu mean cheap. Now days you can get a pretty good rig for $600 which will last you as much as 4 years, then just need to spend $150ish on a new GPU and last you another 2-4 years pending on how tech grows while saving money on all the games you buy either it be from retail which are $10 cheaper or steam bundles which can go down to $20 for 10 games.
