Skyrim... in French!

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:40 pm

- I am a french canandian too so some european french translation can even sound strange for me -

Well I am from France and I also find this translation terrible. It's just bad
So in the French version, does Dovakhin surrender to Alduin?

j/k

:shakehead: I'm not even going to comment on that "joke"
I can't even find any information on whether Skyrim will have a full Spanish localization. I don't think Oblivion did. At any rate I can't find a trailer.

Do we actually have a list of the languages Skyrim will be dubbed in? I'm guessing there will be full localizations in German, Russian and French, but what about Polish, Italian, Spanish and Japanese?

Well I am from France

You have my condolences :P

But in all seriousness you have my apologies for my obvious fellow American there. The French people are depicted as self-absorbed lazy cheese-eating surrender monkeys over here, and despite the obligation to our English cultural ancestry to hate all things French the achievements of the French Resistance (forgive the generalization) in WW2 needs to be acknowledge because, seriously, your ancestors did some badass stuff.

My granddad thanks you for that :)
I'm not against jokes but this one gets old very fast, I lived in British Columbia for a year and I used to hear it a LOT over there. Ah well, I know this joke is generally not meant to be harmful so I can live with it.

Sorry for derailing the thread...

On-topic, this trailer is still terrible :P

Well, I am from New Zealand, and so I don't speak French at all, never ever run into it, am very firmly in a monoculture of english only, and I thought that that translation was terrible, because it just sounded bad. What does that tell you?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to get across here but all I meant to say with this was that because I'm French I'm part of the demographic this trailer was aiming to reach and, well, from my perspective this translation is a failure. magyar645 was raising the point that this translation could've been tailored to suit specific (and perhaps alleged) French tastes, hence the weird translation... I was just reacting to that point by saying that the quality of this dubbing may be questionable for the target audience as well.
