Skyrim Game Informer Thread XVI

Kids: Aaaaand another point for immersion. Immortal or not, the mere fact there are children makes the world better IMHO.

Assuming there isn't some hovel far away from civilization (but right in the heart on the [censored] doorstop of hostile territory), populated by foul-mouthed kids who kick out anyone over 16, insult you every chance they get (without any chance of reprisal), and which is required to pass through to complete the main story. <_<

Fallout had kid actors.

And they svcked.

Well done Bethesda - I really like all I've read so far - Todd was right - as a fan I am really looking forward to this now - though by the sound of all the events leading up to Skyrim this hints at being the conclusion of the series :(

Suuuuure, they have a wildly popular series that makes a lot of money that is only now branching out into other media. They're really going to end it now.

What does it say in the small orange box in "Inside the Interface"?

Enemies now each have unique behavioral
patterns. Not every monster you meet in the
wilderness will immediately jump to the attack

Well, glad I have people posting information about the article. Time to wait for it to come out in stores so I can see these screenshots.

I've seen a lot of things that make me very hopeful. I can't wait to get my hands on a full version of the article. Most of what I've heard seems like very solid design decisions.

Well, that remains to be seen...but I think Bethesda might want to work on something else for a while after this release. As a fan of Bethesda I am always eager to play what ever they release, and perhaps this might be the set up for something even bigger who knows. If the studio isn't saying that it's the last in the series then it isn't the last in the series, simple logic...I just want my space sim next xD.

Grrrr I want my mag to come in already!

Yeah, I agree. I mean I was optimistic before, but it seems now that the over all experience that the game provides is going to be great. The information seems to indicate that while simple, the game is going to add quite a bit of depth to the series and change the approach that future games are going to take.

I just feel like a lot of things implemented in this game are going to stick with the series.

Agreed - never say never - however I was just interested how all the other major events from the other games have led to this

I'm looking forward to seeing if all the elder scrolls have been fulfilled and if so are new ones created as a result of the end of Skyrim - in any case the mag still hasn't hit my shores yet and I spent some fruitless time going through the stores today looking for it - can't wait to get it :)

You raise a rational point, though I doubt very much they'll have another "little lamplight" scenario here. The Elder Scrolls doesn't strike me as..well for lack of better word, "silly" as Fallout can be, if anyone gets my meaning.

If by any remote chance there is another thing like that well:
1:Go into construction set or wait for inevitable mods
2:Go into game, spawn Dragons or prefered dangerous creatures
3:Cloak yourself (hide, invisibility, console command, etc.)
4:Grab popcorn
5:???
6:Profit

No pics of the races? Not that I expect good changes: toad argonians, insectoid yoku, no imperials, less cat-like khajiit, ugly elves, etc. I see no point in keeping birthsigns or "race bonuses."

What? There's 10 races, which is exactly the same as before, and they said each race is more distinct.

Yeah, what. That was my question, because I don't have a mag.

I'm real disappointed tha tit seems the dragons are the cliche "Evilll!!1" dragons in every other fantasy series. Then you're the last "Dragon slayer" left...not cliche at all. Especially since I've been busy playing Divinity 2 Dragon Knight saga which has an extremely similr setup but manages to curve ball it into something different and not cliche as you'd expect.

Main reason it is disappointing because in TES's own lore dragons are said to be intelligent, able to communicate and have even helped humans in the past.

Hopefully that info is just a red herring and we'll in fact find/meet dragons which are not hostile and perhaps even be able to make choices to help/side with certain ones. I just hope it isn't just cliche and you already know you are the "chosen hero" who kills thel big bad evil dragon and saves the world.

I am pretty sure I read that you can learn a dragon call that will allow for a dragon to fight by your side. That does not sound evil.

It amazes me that cliches bother people in an age where everything has literally been done to death in some way shape or form. :shakehead:

Yeah.

Also, they do have their own language and are very intelligent; the player is a Dragonborn which means he can even learn some words of the dragon language and apply them in combat for awesome powers, including the ability to "blink" (teleport) small distances and as summer said, summon a dragon to fight as your companion. Doesn't sound all that cliché to me... The idea of being able to use the dragon language as a tactical ability is actually a pretty original take on a very common fantasy motif.

Dragonish was a learnable language skill in Daggerfall. But then it was just a skill to sort of talk creatures out of combat from what I remember.

But yeah, I don't think dragons are evil per say. Just forces of nature. They may perceive mortals as a threat to the world. I mean if the shattering of the staff of chaos, the numidium, events of Red Mountain in Morrowind which indirectly led to Vvardenfel's destruction way in the future, and the oblivion crisis were not enough to give the dragons an excuse to awaken and give the mortal races a wake up call, I don't know what is. To top it off, apparently what awakens them and sets them ape[censored] is the fact that the Nords as usual are escalating in violence against one another. Maybe this time its worse than normal, but I could see it being the last straw on the camels back. Especially since what's left of the empire is pretty much in shambles.

Can anybody outline the fast travel system, or any information relating to it? I've read conflicting reports.

I want to know this as well, although I don't think information was released on this. I'm hoping it is out but seeing what is being put into the game I highly doubt it is out.

To me, it sounds like nothing more then a simple combat spell, like in many other rpgs, where you can use it to have an npc temporarily fight by your side during a fight, not to the point that they become good or non-evil, just a simple combat mechanic.

Cliches bother me because it shows a lack of forethought, imagination, etc. It doesn't mean it will be "bad," just that it will be rather expected, not surprising/thrilling in terms of the storyline.

I'm not holding my breath for the AI. I remember how Howard pretty much lied to the community when he announced how advanced the AI would be and how we'd witness guards killing dogs for food, or NPCs drinking potions to improve their target practice at home... yeah right.

Well, they were really, really set back on time constraints with Oblivion, and they just couldn't debug the AI well enough before release without some fatal errors, so they toned it down. I'm pretty sure that they had plenty of time to fix the AI for Skyrim this time.

Hold on amigo. These days its almost impossible to NOT borrow SOMETHING from SOMEONE in regards to fantasy.

And besides a dragon fighting by your side wether it be a simple combat mechanic or not still kicks lots and lots of [Censored]
