Skyrim Game Informer Thread XVI

I'd say different body types are pretty much confirmed.

There's no way Bethesda would make every male in the game as jacked as the main character in those shots.

Let's hope not. If so the women are going to be truly ugly.

I am MOST excited about the fact that archery will no longer be gimped. Hopefully no more pin-cushion enemies. A shot or two should do the job.

So we'll no longer have to run backwards frantically firing at them?

There's a screenshot of a woman, and I can assure you this is not the case. As a matter of fact, the women look less beefy in Skyrim than in Oblivion.

You can get uniques at any time you want in Fallout, dependent on skill of course. They just shouldn't be leveled, there was no contradiction in my statements. You should be able to get the unique at what ever level you can get it at, it just shouldn't be leveled. Make sense?

Clarified, thanks. Your first post wasn't clear to me.

Any mention of racial spells/powers or skills bonuses returning? Or have we got no way to differentiate between races except for appearnace now?

Ha. That was my understanding when I read it. It talked about how it takes longer to draw your bow but hitting a target does much more damage. The article implied that one-shot kills would be very possible, which is GREAT news for me. I always play as a sneak/stealth assassin (bow and arrow).

Well, my Breton in Oblivion is dead, unless I time-travel him, or play as his great-great-great-grandson.

Good thing that my 'main character' of sorts became the Nerevarine then; age will never be a factor ever again.

Did you not see the screenshot with that huge freakin' spider?

Just how big of a spider are we talking about? Large as a man, or larger than a house?

The speed at which you can run backwards has been lessened substantially, so this wouldn't work anyway. You have would to outright flee. :P

At the bottom of page 51 there is a screenshot with a quote that says "Facial and body features are entirely customizable." I expect at the very least we will be able to change body types.

Seem to stand on it's own. The screenshot shows several magic schools (destruction, conjuration, etc) listed left to right and "smi-" is cut off on the right side of the shot.

This is my number one question in terms of visuals as well. Can someone clarify and point to a source? I would be very impressed if the screenshots were from a console platform...

Yea smithing is listed next to the magic classes so I'm confused. All skills in oblivion fell within a certain class. In skyrim some skills will stand on their own and some will be within a class?

Apparently classes and attributes have been eliminated.

In all likelihood, with a year still to go, there's been no such divergence yet.

Does anyone know when GI subscribers will get the magazine? It's typically before it is released to stores if I'm not mistaken. I assume you can already get it at Gamestop since so many people seem to have it already.

On topic of Skyrim:

Things that concern me:
- Level-based system similar to Fallout (no more minor and major skills)
- Perk system similar to Fallout
- Overall feel of a more linear

Things I expected:
- Combat improvement (dual-wielding/finishing moves/ranged improvements)
- Overhaul of graphics and physics
- Better customization
- Better radiant AI

Things I like:
- Dragon shouts sound intriguing
- More unique environments
- Radiant story system (if done right)
- Open cities if true
- Adding blacksmiths and the like

So far so good.

Some subscribers already got theirs. The rest of us will probably get it tomorrow. As for the Leveling system, it isn't based on Fallout, all they did was remove major and minor skills from leveling system and they took an aspect of fallout leveling and added it to this. Also the perks were actually originally in Daggerfall and most recently in Oblivion just that in Oblivion it was at set levels instead of at your discretion. As for the linear, there has always been a linear aspect to the game, the main quest line. As for the rest of the game, it will be like all the rest, a sand box of fun!

The visuals look amazing and relieving, they will look great and run great. Probably run faster than Oblivion, I bet, especially if they worked on optimization and I bet they did.

If body characteristics can truly be modified, I'd like to maximize the skinny on a Bosmer and name him Gollum, give him no hair and big eyes and pointy ears. He'll go after those dragons as if they swallowed the One Ring itself. And he'll do it with a pair of glass shortswords.

Also, from some of the screenshots, it is almost virtually guaranteed that Thistle will indeed be an alchemical ingredient.
