Skyrim Game Informer Thread XVIII

I got mine today. Here's some things I haven't heard mentioned.Wooly mammoths confirmed.(I think that's old news.) You do start out a prisoner... and whoever said there was a level cap of 50 was wrong. "Even after level 50, players will continue gaining new levels, but the process will dramatically slow."

On which page were the prison part?

As I live in Sweden I've only seen the scans so I just wondered. It means that I still haven't seen two pages then. Interesting!

I bet that the pictures look great in the mag? :)

So, can we assume they'll update the hub every 2-3 days? With they're last hub, they put a date up saying when to come back, but I haven't seen anything like that for the Skyrim hub--maybe I'm just blind. Is there a place we can know when they'll post the next one?

I quite enjoyed the small little peeks at Skyrim during the video walk through Bethesda.

Because I live really close to Minneapolis and I haven't got my copy in the mail yet. You would think around Minneapolis would be the first places to receive it...

Anyways I'm going to try and read through the threads that i missed because i had no internet, if anyone wants to link me to some i should read please do.

Getting picky here, but I remember reading about how NPCs react when certain things are dropped. e.g. If you drop a sword, two men might fight over it, or a child might pick it up and give it back to you.
Perhaps that's worth adding to the front page?

Quick question. Is the Behind the Scenes of Skyrim video from Game Informer available for download anywhere? I just like to save a copy of all the videos on my harddrive and I can't find a download link on their video player and don't see it anywhere else.

Yeah, video quality is varying with their player(or my connection) so that would be nice to have.

Just imagine: you drop 10 swords in the street and this action causes 2 fights, 2 young boys run towards you asking if you want to take your sword back. :brokencomputer:

OR you could be arrested for littering

The information that has been reported definitely has given me hope that Skyrim will be superior to Oblivion in many ways. Sure, I was hoping for drastically scaled back level-scaling (ala Morrowind), but it seems they're incorporating a lot of other ideas that will make up for that. Other than the FO:3 style level-scaling, they seem to be moving closer to Ultima in terms of world interactivity, with the ability to mine, cook food, and do other types of tasks, as well as manipulate and view more 3D objects. I'm pretty excited. I really enjoyed FO3 and FO:NV, despite the level-scaling.

Magic school of magic? Glad they are done with Mysticism.

As for 5 major cities, I am expecting 5 massive cities and a bunch of small settlements, and some mid-sized cities.

I hope 'massive' is actually massive. The cities in Oblivion (and Morrowind) were all very very small. The IP was disgracefully small.

I hate to say it, but the more I learn, the less excited I am about Skyrim. No Daedra, civil war, and dragons? Sounds pretty boring, I've been there done that with Bioware. I'm hoping there's a plot twist in there some where to spice it up a bit, I mean it's ES so it won't be a bad game, just was hoping for something a little deeper.

We already got enough Daedra in Oblivion. As for Daedric Princes, I believe they are still in Skyrim. Dragons, it has been part of TES lore for a long time, and I am excited to see what's up with Alduin this time and what are the reasons for the Dragon's invasion.. Civil wars, it's a good thing, hopefully political intrigue will be involved like in Morrowind.

I think there will be enough deep if Bethesda decides to explore Alduin as being an alter-ego to Akatosh rather than just another crazy god wanting to destroy the world.

Civil wars are always a good concept in RPGs, the faction wars in FNV was incredible, the whole intrigue between Caesar's Legion, NCR and Mr. House spiced up the game real good.

The Dragons are definately going to far more interesting, they are smart beings, they have their own reasons and motives for invading Skyrim, and that's one of the mysteries we are going to solve in Skyrim.

Well for one thing, that's just the main quests. We have no idea which side quests and guilds will be in the game. In OB, I wasn't a fan of the main questline, and several people would probably agree it wasn't very good. However, the DB questline was very well done in my opinion. If you don't want another questline about dragons, stick to the sidequests. They will probably consume more time than the main quest anyway.

and after reading Silvades comment, I agree with him. I can't wait to see and fight dragons. It may be cliche, but who cares?

Yeah you bring up good points, I hope the Daedra are in the game though, just not spewing out all over the place. Also I hope the character creation is not consoled down too much, it's my favorite aspect of RPG's.

Dragons will always be cliche and they will always be used, time and again. They're just the most popular creatures for pop-mythology :spotted owl: .
