Skyrim is getting a lot of hype on these forums

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:11 am

I think it's because Bethesda's fanbase has grown significantly after Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3. (Most popular BGS-developed games)

After having played and enjoyed (an understatement, really) Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, personally it makes me anticipate Skyrim very, very much. For long time fans of the series who started playing even before Morrowind, Skyrim would be like the next awesome episode of some TV series you love to watch.

I don't find this weird, people have been waiting for TES V since 2006.
Of course people are excited!

Am i the only one who has realized that there are now more replies about Skyrim, a game that was just announced 3 months ago, than Morrowind, a game released many a year ago.

Whaaa.....

Surely you're not *that* surprised at the hype, you're sitting in the heart of red mountain and these braying masses are the dreamers

What I think happened is that TONS of newer fans, people who have only played Oblivion, just heard about the game and then stumbled upon the forum. Morrowind wasn't really that big of a game, but Oblivion was huge for both PC AND consoles. It would be expected that it brings more traffic to the site, specifically towards Skyrim.

Also, not as many people play Morrowind any more. Obviously a lot still do, but not enough to reply more than here, where discussion of a new game runs rampant.

It sure is! compare it with the Fallout forums, there is only ever 1 or 2 people browsing the general discusions. It should get a bit busier also now all of the European mags have released. OXM UK gave this game the "must buy" (highest) ranking, the front cover also, when the mag was also previewing Deux ex and Tomb Raider.

It's just like wat Todd Howard said in a interview by gameinformer, after Oblivion came out, the forum posts went from a couple hundred to a couple thousand, and now, with the long wait in between games, there are even more people who got into Oblivion, and now are excited for Skyrim. I will admit, that i am a new fan to the ES series, my first taste of it was with Oblivion, but yeah, this game is going to be awesome. FOR SKYRIM, HOORAA.

Of course it's getting a lot of Hype. Todd Howard did say that Oblivion was the breakout game of the series (sure it was GameInformer), and it's been five years of waiting and speculation. And the teaser trailer took a load of people by surprise.

There was a time, back before Oblivion, and before the new forum software, when the Morrowind forum was so busy your brand new topic would be half way to page 2 by the time the page reloaded.

... and most of it was "ZoMg WHere is Caius Cosades??!?11!1one!1!!"

hence... quest markers.

No, ALL posts were "where is that [censored] puzzle box???"

Every. Single. One.

:D

Seriously, I just think that after 9 years (wow!), almost everything that anyone need ever say about Morrowind has already been said.

I'm curious to see what the Skyrim forums will look like after 11/11. Think it was busy here on the NV release, just wait...

Earliest that the Wayback machine will find, I think.

Checking the "Next Elder Scrolls" forum shows multiplayer, online, and co-op threads. No wonder we direct everything to one thread....

... And, Max was celebrating his 15th birthday! :D

All posts are purged eventually.

But why? Text hardly takes any space. I mean if I go to Google and search my own name it comes up immediately and those guys have almost all the info of the world to search and sort.

Google searches 1000's of databases, this site has 1.

If every post ever made on this forum were to remain the database would be so large that accessing it would be very time consuming. Perusing this site would be agonizingly slow.

I just hope the hype doesnt kill the game.

Then stay away from the hype, take everything said with a grain of salt, it's all up to you. ;)
