Is Skyrim going main stream

WoW, you know I had no clue what would happen to TES if the casual gamers got a hold of it.

My friend was just over to borrow a game, and he said he wanted to play an RPG and that all he had was saints row 2. I looked at him and said "What? Saints row 2 definetly isn't a RPG!" and then I kind of laughed and he said "It is an RPG, you make your Character, you can do what you want and make some decisions". I told him the game was a sandbox and that the main story was linear, and there was no role-playing, no lore, no open world. He told me you get to choose whether or not to kill somebody and that was basically what you did in FO.

Frankly I was stunned. If Saints row 2 is considered an RPG by most gamers than please Bethesda don't EVER let them change the way you're making these games! PLEASE!

WE HAVE TO DEFEND TES:V!!! :toughninja:

Lol, But seriously I want TES to stay a actual RPG.

This happened and I had to share it.

What exactly do people mean by "casual gamer"? Gaming in itself is a casual act; a form of escape and entertainment. If someone gaming, unless their in a tournament for money or something, considers themselves to be "not casual" while playing, then what are they?

A "Casual Gamer" is someone who isn't going to be posting on this message board. They are going to play the game, put it down and play something else. They might not even keep it and play it over and over and over again like everyone on this message board will.

I know people who've played Oblivion fervently and repeatedly, with many characters and different focuses. They're not much for message boards or even keeping up with news in gaming. I, by definition, am a casual gamer; I game for fun and relaxation.

I am, however, an avid fan of this franchise. which is why I'm on gamesas forums. Unless you're being payed to play, or a developer, you're a casual gamer.

I'm just telling you how alot of people describe a "Casual Gamer". I'm sure that is the same answer you'll get from the person you asked the question of. I might be wrong about the message boards, but "Casual Gamers" are not going to play the game more than once.

"Casual gamer" has generally been a derogatory I've applied to the people who've contributed to the ridiculous popularity some games enjoy.

Not to get too in-depth on this subject, but to me it all goes back to Sony's entrance into the game industry. Ever since the original PlayStation, the industry has been growing like bamboo on steroids, primarily because of all the new gamers brought in by the PlayStation (and to a lesser extent the N64). Sony continued this with the PS2, as did Microsoft with their Xbox (though to a lesser extent). M-soft especially assisted the growth with their monumental success with Xbox Live.

My beef has always been with that enormous growth, because unfortunately it brought in a whole mess of people that want games that I just don't enjoy for the most part. I'm sure there's a whole lot of great titles that I'd have missed out on without their presence, but honestly, what difference would I know? How would I know what I was missing out on?

Long have called these people "casual gamers", and long have I blamed them for the practically nauseating focus on graphics at the expense of content and creativity. It's like how the original Star Wars trilogy kicks the hell out of the prequel one because back in the 70's you had to invent new tricks to make movies like those. Now if they want to put something on screen that doesn't exist, it's automatically accomplished with CGI.

Technology has been and will continue to be extremely useful in gaming, but honestly, it really doesn't need to be the driving point any more, and the casual gamers are the reason it still is as far as I'm concerned.

There needs to be a more accurate term.

I'm a console player, Halo fan to the bone, and think that consoles played an important role in bringing videogames, which have the potential to be the world's greatest art-form, to a much wider audience. Does this make me a "casual gamer", by its derogatory meaning?
