Skyrim is great BUT.......

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 11:29 am

Hia guys

since Skyrim is going to be great (demo duhhhh), I was wondering whats stopping the Todd from adding spears and Xbows!!

I mean since pole-arms are in (I think) why not just add spears and some extra attack animations!

and sine bows are in why not add X-bows ?? I mean they can't be harder to animate than drawing a bow!!

this is just a little plea to the developers at Bethesda to at least TRY to add more weapon to this great game

if they can't then its OK but it would be great if they could do it

ty all for reading :spotted owl:

The dragons ate them, that's the reason you are trying to kill them all.

People are indeed complaining to have something to complain about. Luckily spears and crossbows will definately be modded in for PC, if not Xbox 360 as well (by someone) so everyone will be happy.

Don't count on it. Modders have had 5 years to mod it in Oblivion and there still haven't been a truly "good" mod for it yet. The mods that have had spears or crossbows have been with really crappy animations.

Just saying... it may be modded in for the PC, but will it be modded in greatly? I very much doubt it, considering the past experiences.

I've tried searching the Nexus for Oblivion spear mods before, and honestly... there really aren't that many that I can find. Unless they're hiding under names that don't include "spear".

...and crossbows. Yeah, they do a little extra damage and do well against strong armor. But they're heavy, incredibly slow to reload, and unwieldy. Why the heck does anyone want those silly things? (unless you're expecting those magical fast-fire/auto-reloading crossbows from action games & movies)

I don't really see where is the problem??

is it time?! then its OK

but if its just a design direction then it should change because adding more weapons is always great for an action RPG

It would be a nice to see them added as it adds to the visceral gameplay however there are several flaws which results in them being undesirable in the game like what Kiralyn2000 said

I don't understand the thing about crossbows either. I've never find them cool or fun. They add variety... sure. But variety of the weapons I actually use? No (not for me at least).

Spears however... I would love that, mainly because it makes so much sense to have them in Skyrim, and it adds a nice variety, and they're fun and so different from other weapons. Haven't found a spear mod either, but it seems that new Andoran mod has managed to add spears real nicely :)

They could work backwards to bows, meaning they are already pulled back and ready to fire every time, but it takes a while.
Anyways, I want throwing weapons more than anything. A shield on the left and a dagger on my right. darts or shuriken anyone?

Spears can also have their purpose. It's very simple. They have the longest reach, and when blocking a sword the blade may get stuck into the wood, disarming your enemy.

I think that variety is important but in the other hand what are we gaining and what are we losing in removing several types of weapons.
X bow are slow and heavy and painfully tedious to use, oblivion went to the faster approach, i guess this is why it was booted.
In most games throwns do minimal damage, thy can be fun to use but i cant find the point by adding them.
Spears on the other hand have good reach length can do a lot of damage and can be fun to use, it is the only wep that have equal amount of advantages and disadvantages.I hope it will find its way back to skyrim but i will be happy 2 live without it.

I played a lot of RPG games in most of the games the weps are the same deal the same type of damage, the only difference is the skin, at least this is what i felt in neverwinter nights (1 and 2), DDO, dragon age, dungeon siege and some others that i cant recall now.

I don't understand the thing about crossbows either.

Some people like apples, some people like oranges, some people don't care about either. Is that more understandable?

Well if they won't add them I hope the modding community will have an easier time with the CE because it did not work out so well in OB

this applies to capes/cloaks as well.

but none of us have paid for it yet? and you can always cancel a preorder, also they never said they were putting spears in, and they werent in oblivion, so why would you ever expect them to be in?

Your argument is so ridiculous i don't even know what else to say

So Todd spends two years of budget and development time and resources on dragons

They produce a final product that, in the E3 demo, performs a very clumsy looking maneuver in order to attack the player (I'm referring to the stopping in mid air, VTOL, followed by backwards breathe fire over shoulder, with tail NOT involved)

They improve combat by adding maneuvers that are animated, but NOT within the players control

and the demo looks like a player could experience the same overall clumsy feel that Oblivion's melee combat had very easily.

So..... who is he to say what is superfluous and what is not?

Don't get me wrong, there are aspects of the game I do like very much. The shorts from the battle with the dragon in the tower looked particularly great, and the attention to detail in the overall world and aesthetics looked superb.
