Skyrim vs GTA V?

Post » Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:41 am

Before I start, I'm sorry if these types of posts are not welcome here; if so, I'll gladly remove this, but since this has to do partly with Skyrim I thought you guys might enjoy discussing this.

So, Skyrim and GTA V are by far the top two major open world games up to date (in my, and many people's opinion). I was wondering what you guys think is better: Skyrim, or Grand Theft Auto V, and why? I understand that they are two completely different games, but it terms of story, exploration abilities, weapons/armor to use, etc.; which one comes out on top?

As you said. They're completely different types of games. There is really no comparison.

In TES you make create your character and story, in GTA, it gives you one.

I like both, I've been playing GTA V since release. Which was a much needed break from Skyrim.

Skyrim without a doubt.

You actually have a choice of being what you want to be in Skyrim. Its a vast open world. GTA has nothing on it.

Plus I doubt anyone can roleplay with GTA. And Skyrim is the only game I still play just about every day since its release. The only thing close to that would be Bioware's Dragon Age 1-2plus DLC and Mass Effect 1-3 with all DLC for me.

GTA is rather a pseudo sandbox in my mind, considering most buildings are nothing more than decoration..

However both games are fun in their own right. :)

I have never played GTA, as it was released as console, and I prefer PC games. Also, while I understand it has a fantastic following, and does incredibly well revenue wise, it is a game I never got into, as I prefer the Baldbur's Gate, Dragon Age, Skyrim themes, and those games appeal to a different market than GTA.

It is a real tough comarision, as it crosses market segments.

Plus, I needed a break from skyrim so I picked up GTAV from a friend of mine and it's fun for me :D

I don't play GTA, though I tried the franchise once a long while back. Personally, the whole feel of the game is off-putting to me. I'd just as soon play a game where I'm cast in the role of a serial arsonist/killer/rapist. I find nothing at all appealing about the franchise, and actually loathe that it is so visible, given the industry's current brand of politically-motivated critics.

That said, I don't get the point in asking which is better on the Skyrim forum.

Even though GTA V is fun to play. I would have to go with Skyrim because it has a dynamic world and has lasting hours of play time.

Not a very smart idea to pose this question on a Skyrim forum.

I have never owned a console in my life and I never intend to own a console. So for me Skyrim wins by default. That aside, from what I've read about the GTA series, I don't think I'd like GTA even if I did own a console.

While I'm not sure about the latest rendition, I do know other GTA games are available on PC, as well. Of course, the only time I played GTA was on a Playstation (I have no idea which model). I haven't owned a console since the Sega Saturn, which was very short-lived for me.

Love GTA, but obviously doesn't come close to Skyrim.

GTA is, for me, just something to kick around in. I'm going to get GTA V, sometime. But I won't be saying that it's better. If I do, contact the Dark Brotherhood.

Skyrim, or the entire series for that matter, is designed for roleplay. There is enough gaps for yourself to fill in.

In GTA, you're this person, who did [something silly] in the past.

In Skyrim, you are [....] who [...], etc.

In terms of gameplay hours, I doubt GTA V will add as many hours as Skyrim, but it certainly will be a lot of hours.

Even though I've never played that other game you're talking about, I'm pretty sure skyrim destroys it, no contest.

Asking this question here sort of pre-determines the answer you will get, yes? Unless some passing GTA fan happens to hit the wrong link during a google search it's a fair bet people on a Skyrim forum prefer Skyrim.

I don't have GTA V myself by the way, but I do play a couple older GTA games that I enjoy. I'm deep in an Elder Scrolls binge currently though, and if I had to do without one series or the other I'd definitely give up GTA.

I wouldn't compare them, that's like comparing apples to oranges.

The big difference with TES games and most other open world games is that Bethesda try and make every door interactive and lead to somewhere you can access. This is a bold step for Bethesda as most other open world games just copy and paste repetative and non-active background making it easier to build what appears to be a larger sand pit to play in

Well, GTAV has much better story missions, better writing, and a more convincing and busy open world. Skyrim has better customisation, combat and content.

Basically one is an RPG, and one isnt.

I love Grand Theft Auto. But Id much rather play Skyrim or any TES game instead of GTA V.. I can play myself out of GTA V.. Skyrim I can play hours and hours without getting tired.

@Imbecile

You cant really say Skyrim has better combat. The both are very different.
