Skyrim has 410 quests total

Skyrim has 410 quests total. Not including random quests created by the AI.

Oblivion only had 229 quests total. 11 were in an unfinished state.

Morrowind had 425 quests total. 7 were in an unfinished state.

Daggerfall had 248 quests total.

Arena only had 10 quests.

It seems to increase and decrease with each version. Lets hope the next release is an increase.

I was wondering, if one person can create 36 great quests over the lifetime of creating the product (about 3 years), which seems doable, about 1 great quest a month. 10 days to design, 10 days to implement, 10 days to test and rework. It could be using already made objects. Then it takes about 12 people only. So the length of the game is only limited by number of people they hire. So if they want 1000 quests, they just need to hire about 30 people. I only hope Elder Scrolls 6 will have at a minimum about 800 quests.

Morrowind had a bit more, Oblivion a lot less. Not sure about Daggerfall.

Skyrim has a lot of frivolous quests like fed-ex parts which Oblivion would have had as only a single stage of a quest and so the number of quests here isn't the same thing as content.

Whoa, that's pretty nice! I remember Morrowind (GOTY) having about 425. But that's nice! No idea about Oblivion or Daggerfall.

Its not difficult. The PC version has the quests in a file. You just count how many there are in the file. But it was easier for me, as I just counted the quests after people put the quest info online from the PC info.

I don't see how that's possible.

Off the top of my head, Whiterun, as an example, has....21 quests? 21 x 9 = 189, so unless Morthal is hiding a TON of them or something, I wanna know where they all are. :P

You forget there are lots of forges, little towns, etc littered all over the place. Each may have a few characters here and there asking you to do quests.

Define 'Unfinished'.

Do you mean 'could not be completed' or just 'weren't as fulfillng or aesthetically pleasing as I'd have liked'?

how about looking at http://uesp.net/wiki/Category:Skyrim-Quests.

There are literally quests like chop wood and climb stairs in skyrim, which is why as I've said above Skyrim might have more quests but it's not the same thing as more content ;). Also there are quests which are little more then do more quests, like the quests to become thane in some cities. Also 410 does include radiant quests unlike what the OP said.

One example I might use is Cidhna Mine, it counts as being like 3 or 4 separate quests whereas in oblivion that would have counted as only being a single quest...

Yeah, an entire quest (in one of the big lines) consisted of going into the basemant and talking to a dude. Literally, 2 minutes tops (not counting loading)

Ok, I've updated the quest figures for all Elder Scrolls games.

But as others pointed out, some of the quests may be quite short. So quality control is needed. Perhaps a quest can only be a quest if it is GREAT.

Uesp has the same figure of 410 but this includes the base quests for radiant quests, are you sure these figures don't include the base quests for Radiant Quests? since from what I'm seeing on Uesp that would seem to be the case.

Oh wow, this is wrong in so many ways... Your assumption is that creating a quest is as much work as typing a few lines? Yeah, let us forget about the million things that are needed before one quest is finished.

I mean, it's not like an entire team is involved when creating one quest, is it?
Creating even a simple quest from scratch requires a lot of time, work and dedication by tens of people.

Come on, a lot of the quests seems to be made by "script kiddies". Just create a script and attach it to an unused NPC. If all NPC's are used, create one using a general template, name it, place it somewhere, and attach a script. Its not like you have to individually create the textures for each NPC from scratch or program each NPC to say this or that. There are scripts for that. The quest maker just needs to use a tool and fill in the details.

OP: You should mention Fallout 3, as well.

It has 23 quests. And that is counting each uniquely named leg of a single quest line as a single quest, as well as all the the unlabeled ones.

I'll just say you are skipping a few steps for anyone who says creating new quests is easy.
Sure you could a build a few "errand boy" like quests like that. But you couldn't do any complex quests with an attitude like that.
It does mean involving the team to create new content and not just rehashing exisiting stuff.

The creation kit will make it easier for modders, but they'll still need skills in areas of creating new actual content (buildings, Caves, Areas, Weapons, NPC's) if they expect people to be interested in any new quests they bring into the game. Along with the Voice Dialogue to go along with those script to add to the realism. There is a big difference between a simple quest and a good one, doing something different and new definitely plays it's part in that.

I'm quite happy with the number of quests in Skyrim. It does remind me of morrowind level of quests infact, so it does not suprise me their numbers are similar.

You want 800 quests? Ok that's just too much content...

How about just 200 really amazingly awesome quests. Each one is its own epic.
