Skyrim has an amazing chance of GOTY.

I'm hoping for Batman or Skyrim, honestly. Arkham city was a very smooth game and was absolutely incredible. Skyrim is amazing, but has a few too many bugs to really be deserving.

I'd really like it if Skyrim won, because it means Bethesda will give us something special.

Yeah, hopefully they'll reward us with a game that works.

So far I've experienced only one single crash and no weird bug (I know, I'm lucky like that ; I also went through New Vegas and Fallout 3 completely unscratched, go figure), so I'm not at all going to say that Skyrim has been a bugfest.
But I just really wish to point that "every game has bugs, so all games are equally buggy" is a complete logical fallacy.

I agree that it's a logical fallacy, I was just pointing out that if his high standards don't let him vote in a game with bugs, he shouldn't vote in almost any big game.

I just think that some people overreact a little about bugs to the extent of exclusively blaming Bethesda as the only Developer that release something bugged.

Why the hell is Saints Row 3 on that website? What a sad excuse for a game that is! Unless you're 7 years old that is then it's probably great but it's just a stupid game!

Portal 2 was really good, but I still think skyrim just blows everything else out of the water, maybe it's becasue i like the fantasy setting the most, but even if you weren't into fantasy I think you would have a hard time not being jaw dropped at how large and beautiful skyrim is. Theres a million different little things that make skyrim my GOTY.

Why is it a stupid game? It's a fun sandbox like Skyrim...what exactly about it don't you like.....

Portal 2.

Skyrim is buggy and isn't a very good RPG.

For those reasons it doesn't desever Game of the Year. However, people vote for these things without actually taking the time to judge the game properly so I'm not surprised that Skyrim is winning nor will I be surprised if Skyrim wins.

Winning Game of the Year means nothing other than enough people enjoy the game to vote for it, it has nothing whatsoever to do with how good the game actually is.

Personally I'd pick Dark Souls over Skyrim. Skyrim is everything I'd hoped it would be, but Dark Souls... I just can't explain it. I love that game. Skyrim will win, though.

Well, a game do needs to be good to people enjoy it. Why would someone enjoy a bad game or not enjoy a good game? (Their opinion of a bad/good game, not yours)

Also, it doesn't need to be a "good RPG" to be GOTY. It just needs to be a game that many people like.

I would have loved for Portal 2 to get GOTY.

Few games can give me quite the satisfaction that Portal 2 does, Skyrim being one of those.

When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life TAKE THE LEMONS BACK!. GET MAD!. "I Don't want your d*mn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these?"

Eliminated by Gears 3.

If Deus Ex was eliminated by Gears 3, then I will not be surprised if Skyrim doesn't win.

I'd say G4 is the most popular site to do it though, in fact it's the only site I've actually noticed doing it.

If they did games sold, Call of Duty would win every year, sadly.

Lol, there are like 50 GotY's, every blog, magazine, tv show etc has their own. I've never even seen G4's before yet I see a couple dozen different games get GotY every year.

yeah if it doesnt win this one it will win one of the other thousands of GOTY awards. GOTY doesn't really mean anything the only game of the year worth anything is the one from the game developers conference all of the following games will win GOTY at some point from some group get a GOTY fro this year.

skyrim
MW3
Uncharted 3
Zelda Skyward sword
BF3
Dead Space 2
Assassins Creed : R
Forza 4
Portal 2
Saints Row 3
SWTOR
Halo: Anniversary
Gears of war 3
Dark souls
Batman
etc...

All of these will be GOTY because there are so many awards! so can we please stop with these threads

This is the truth. Most of those games will be Game of the Year.

You seem like the type that likes a FPS multiplayer, Skyrim will never have a multiplayer mode, it would ruin the game.

Go back to MW3.

That too.

People are so impatient this days... I mean, who would return in Skyrim for things that (at least for the game-breaking things) will be fixed in later patches?

We paid $60 for a game to be able to play it, not to wait a couple of months before Bethesda actually gets their [censored] together and fix the game. Why should they be praised for giving us an incomplete game? Just because they're eventually going to fix it? Hah.

Don't kid yourself; the game is already ruined. It's an action-adventure game/RPG knockoff that "boasts" freedom while throwing intrusive features in your face. Also, mind telling me why I can't bind a one-handed axe? Or two-handed sword? Or any type of mace? Utter laziness, and you're rewarding them for it purely because you get your rocks off to watching dragons kill [censored] and the sky glow pretty colors.

Skyrim will definitely get a lot of GOTY awards. But until the game is fixed on ALL platforms, it most certainly will not deserve any of them. I'm not talking about some random quest bugs or a few graphical glitches. I'm talking about putting magic resistance back in the game, letting PC users use more than 2GB of RAM, and cleaning on the PS3 port even more to ensure that long term play will not become unplayable.

You should not praise them because your game has serious bugs, I should praise them because my game doesn't "have" those serious bugs.

Why generalize the entire game for the entire community as broken? Some people (Probably half of the players, but let's not go over numbers because none of us know any true number) like me doesn't have any issues.

I dont quite understand this Goty stuff, its like every game web site does there own. So as long as any one of these thousands of sites makes skyrim goty, bam they get the title and get to re-release it later on with that on the box. Why not just go with whatever game sold the most in 3 months or something.

well only the "major" sites really mean something
and I would argue that any contest based on public votes has some value at least

sales figures don't mean much
if they'd just go by those some call of duty game would probably win year after year

IMO skyrim is a justified contender and should win
only other game from the list would be batman, that was an awesome, complete and somewhat novel experience

the others are mostly been there, done that IMO

It isn't just issues I'm talking about. Lack of content (mostly spells), lack of options and conversation choices, alternate quest paths, etc.. They're capable of doing better. Much, much better, but they won't because people will always tell them they're #1 no matter how bad their games actually are.

If we're both driving a Hyundai Sonata down the road, and yours suddenly bursts into flames and explodes, I'm not going to give the car a 5-star rating on any website simply because mine didn't have any problems. That would be absurd.

The first part of your post is about personal preferences and you stating your opinion on how games should be as facts.

To the second part I say that while with cars we can expect a unique experience for all the consumers we cannot expect the same thing with software.

Are you serious? LOL

You have to WIN the OFFICIAL GOTY award to sell your game as a GOTY edition.

yeah thats just dumb there is no rule saying you have to do that and if there was who would enforce it ? plus there is no official GOTY to begin with. Spike it a joke it all about the celebs and not about the developers you have all these music artists on stage... WHY?! get frank o conner, cliffy B, Tod Howard people the gamers care about no some music star
