So, Skyrim has been out for one month now. I thought it would be good to see how well it has been received. Basically, what do you think of the game?
Try to keep it flame free if that's possible, I don't want this to get out of hand. No spoilers if you're talking about quests, please!

Personally, I do like the game. My favourite part is probably the quests (including the guilds / factions) and the wilderness encounters. Everytime I play I'm constantly finding new things and continue to be surprised. I'm pleased to say Skyrim has lived up to my expectations.

What about everyone else? :foodndrink:

I want to choose landscape, but not the graphics. Because the graphics are from 2007, but the landscape overall is quite good.

I am dissapointed of it. The quests are quite alright but nothing special. The civil war quests are insanely stupid and made without love. The main quest is for just a real long middle finger risen up towards the lore community. Dark Brotherhood questline is quite good though. The combat system is very good compared to other TES episodes but not as good as Assassins Creed or Dark Messiah (they clearly wanted to go into that direction). Magic is fun since that game so I give them that too.

But the f*cked up menu, the removal of things that made it special (the birthsigns, attributes, etc.) is just so much to overweight the good parts of it.

I'm absolutely loving Skyrim, will probably play it for another two months straight until Reckoning comes out in February. My favorite part of the game, Daedric Quests outside of Mephala which is the worst quest in the game. My favorite Daedric Quest would have to be Mora's by a wide margin, I love that quest and you get a great reward.

I think the game is great. It exceeded my expectations. I love the realism and detail of the landscape. Combat is quick and deadly as it should be, my favorite part being able to kill an enemy with just one shot with an arrow.

The only thing I don't like is the awkward controls and the gui is unintuitive. It's too time consuming to access potions etc. in the heat of battle. The game is a bit slow at responding to keyboard input which gives enemies an unfair advantage. I wish Bethesda could just rewrite the code for keyboard/mouse that was in Oblivion.

I would like to see more people in the game going about their business, more factions, traders and adventurers, but I'm sure there will be mods for that.

11 votes for the magic system! :meh: Way too many.

Skyrim is an okay game but it's far from being a good TES game, I however did vote for it being better than some TES games only because of the little I've played of Arena and I'm just basing this of my inexperience and ignorance with the first game in the series, if I only compared it to Morrowind and Oblivion I'd say it was the worst TES game of them all.

One of my 10 most favorite games but it's not what I expected from a TES game. Freedom and diversity cut for linearity and graphics...

I'm really enjoying the game and I'm not all that far into it but I have probably close to 50+ hours in it.

It's fun to just do whatever I want. I'm particularly enjoying making and enchanting my own gear and questing.

I've only been to 3 major cities and really only spent any significant amount of time in WhiteRun. It feels like a home base with the entire world out there waiting for me to explore.

Fun stuff and fits well into my busy life.

I do wish the crafting had more depth to it - like being able to add different combinations of materials to make different quality weapons/armor and only the rarest of minerals would make the very best armor in the game.

More crafting options also. I think it would be fun to somehow role play a shopkeeper where you hire someone to run it while you go explore.

Good-

Landscapes / environments
Shouts
Perk system
Better than all the others
It's better than I thought

Bad-
Playing on PS3 with 18-20FPS after my savefile got bigger than 11mb
constant lag after an hour of play after my savefile hit 11mb
crashes after a couple of hours of gameplay after the new patch.

i personally think the game is amazing. iam a TES and FALLOUT veteran and this is the best bethseda release yet. iam a ps3 user and do not have any of the supposed "gamebreaking bugs or lag" im nearly 80hrs in and still havnt visited every town/city.

the enviroment is amazing..moody and diverse. the artwork enviroment desingers have done a great job.

im enjoying the quests, although,i must say that the guilds have been a let down.oblivion had better guilds and took you longer to get to the top.i also miss ur guild "rating" and your overall "fame" and reputation WHY WHY did you get rid of this??? i mean surely you must have some fame/reputation being the only dragon slayer in the land?and there does not appear to be any negative/positive impact on the way your character has played with other characters which seems strange .

that is my only gripe.

otherwise the game has exceeded my expecattions i am extremely happy with it.yes its not perfect, yes there are bugs, but its a brilliant game and i have always found the bugs in TES or FALLOUTS very funny and amusing.i can still play the game the way i want, can still do quests etc etc etc so bugs are not an issue for me

Exploring is amazing in this game and probably the best thing about it.
Most of the quests are pretty much the same (fetch, kill, clear).
There are some good quests, but I still wish they'd put more effort into fewer longer questlines than just all these "deliver this to x" quests.
Less is more.

I almost clicked on "It's what I expected" because I knew Beth would create a phenomenal product, but it is blowing me away.

I also chose landscapes/environments.

Good thread :)

I like the game in general.

The landscapes/environments are amazing. The dungeons are especially great; they are all so fun, interesting and unique. Combat is heaps of fun; when I see an enemy I enjoy it every time. Quests (and your Journal) could be A LOT better in terms of directions & information.

I think it's better than all other TES (even Morrowind), but I'm not sure yet. Too early in my game to tell yet.

Skyrim, in general, is better than I thought.

Yes, enjoying it so far. Haven't had much time to play it in long sittings, but from the 11th of November I've played it in bite-sized chunks. Landscapes/environment for me definitely, followed by wilderness encounters are what make it really interesting. Can't say much else is different from other games in the series, polished here and there, sometimes a step back; but those two are the ones that really shine.

I tried not to give into the hype and kept my expectations purposefully low; it sort of paid off and I'm now happy with some features I had been skeptical about; but I'm also kind of saddened with the lack of others. For me, Skyrim is definitely a good game; better than Oblivion, but worse than Morrowind. (in some aspects, of course; I'm not claiming Morro was as flawless as many die-hard fans do) While the world is nicely detailed, 50 something hours in, I still get the sense that they could have done so much more with it. My gripe with the fewer joinable factions in Oblivion is even worse here, where there are even fewer groups to be part of. (miss titles, sadface)

Definitely a solid GOTY candidate though. (along with the Witcher 2 for me)

My reaction: Love at first sight. Surpassed all my expectations. An absolutely stellar game. Probably game of the decade.

I knew within the first 2 hours of the game that I was in for a crazy surprise. I didn't have the highest expectations for some reason (I was disappointed at all the features they were removing), but after playing the game I quickly forgot about those things and focused on what they did do, and it was nothing short of amazing.

The NPCs are great (I wish there were more of them though), the dialog is great (you hear new things even 80+ hours into the game), the quests are great and varied (even the fetch quests are cool), the environments and landscapes are stunning, the dungeons...my god the dungeons, they are amazing (even if they are linear), the atmosphere of the game is amazing, everything tells a cohesive story and nothing feels out of place, the attention to detail is insane, the lore and the books are awesome to read and get into. Everything about the game is pretty much as good as it gets in an RPG. Dare I say the game even fulfills all my "hardcoe" aspirations. Bethesda really did something special with Skyrim.

Logged about 75 hours on my PS3 so far. Haven't started the main quest yet, mostly just side quests, DB, exploring, etc.

Bug level: 5 (potential to break/broken quests, dragon animations, inanimate objects killing me, misaligned tile set/floating statics, mystery bounty that can't be cleared in any of the holds. The game is just an unfinished product at this point)

Quests: 8.5 (conceptually I love many of the quests, but the biggest drawback for me is the abbreviated and simplified dialogue/journal system, quest markers, and the annoying floating faerie arrow)

Crafting: 10 (lots and lots of fun. I love being able to upgrade armor or just create from raw materials. Also, not missing the tedious and nonsensical repair system)

Creature design/AI: 10 (here BGS has out done all other games in the series. Naturally though it would evolve to this)

Actor design/AI: 9 (still a bit rough on the AI for actors. If you just took an arrow to the knee, you're not hearing things... Someone is trying to kill you)

Level/world design: 10 (What a completely mind-blowing beautiful world they have created. The foggy Reach, the misty Velothi peaks, Midnight Aurora Borealis over the Sea of Ghosts, the rise of Masser and Secunda... Just awesomeness. Interiors: Dwemer Ruins, different yet very similar, caves, dungeons, forts are all greatly improved upon over it's predecessor, though I still think Morrowind excels in this category)

UI: 7 (meh... I know there is a tremendous amount of information to sort and organize, but it's still too much button mashing and scrolling. It's a very obvious design choice for console game pads (ala XMB), but for me anyways a total pain in the ass. I also lament the loss of viewing my character in inventory. Kudos for the stat bars fading out when not needed, but the compass is an absolutely horrid feature. I hate it but I must say I get more info from that brick floating in the sky than most NPCs and my journal)

World Map: 8 (Google iSkyrim?... Clever and a creative approach, but looks like it was designed by another company and not BGS... Oh wait! Not bad, but really doesn't have that series feel to it. Oblivion did it right.

Character development: 10 (I absolutely love the perk system. I was hesitant at first but it really seems more logical for character progression. I reward myself with skills I actually use instead of padding attributes and skills that I don't. But since this is a single player experience I suppose either method is rational. It really boils down to personal play style.

Voice Acting: 9 (BGS has greatly improved variety and quality, but really needs to work on random pvssyr with the player. Instead I feel the world is populated by one-line pvssyring pull-string puppets)

Music/Ambient SFX: 10 (Stunning detail and epic scores by Soule. BGS has out done any game experience for me in this regard, even more so than the high quality EAX of Arx Fatalis)

Scored: 8.8 out of 10

Bug fixes over the next few months, plus DLC will obviously drive my score up to an easy 9.5 out of 10

I'm sorry TES fans but I hated it. I found the world to be boring, bland and generic. The story was just pretty much more of the same that we have seen in previous TES games and the dragons weren't really that impressive. As for the combat, it still suffered from the flaws that Oblivion combat suffered from. You can't control your power attacks once initiated and enemy AI is dumb. The animations were stiff and unrealistic and the running animation was even worst than Morrowind's running animation IMO!

Don't even get me started about the countless glitches and bugs that the game suffers from.

0/10

Yeah. I'm that cruel.
