Skyrim has ruined gaming for me...

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:09 pm

I hate reading books, I prefer reading from computer screen. So far I've enjoyed movies and games way more than any book.

How about reading up on TES lore?

Read it on the computer screen/ check
Something about video games and TES/ check
Learn more about Skyrim and possible quests and characters/monsters/ check

i gotta ask, what books have you read? Because i find many people hate reading because they have only read things that don't appeal to them or are poorly written. Personally i think reading is one of the best ways to waste time haha, i always try to read at least a few hundred pages a week on top of my university readings (which are immense, *sigh*).

Mostly boring stuff for school. I've read a few books I enjoyed like some Star Wars novels, ghost stories, etc. I prefer reading about topics that interest me on the internet rather than pay for books because my library has nothing that appeals to me.

Books are really very cheap. Order some used ones from a third-party Amazon seller. I often get mine for $7 or less, down as low as $1.

It's far better value for the entertainment.

That said, if reading just isn't your thing, you should really try to find something else that is. There isn't much in the world that generally sounds as bad to a prospective employer/significant other/peer as "My hobby is playing video games. I don't like going out or reading."

Big red flag, whether justified or not. Diversify.

well no wonder you hate reading haha, other then the star wars books (which you say you enjoyed) you haven't really read haha. Reading for school and so forth is hardly enjoyable. I can't tell you how much i hated "Fifth Business" and other novels i was forced to read throughout high school (well, For Whom the Bell Tolls was really good, but thats an exception to the rule haha). You should really check out A Game of Thrones (First book in the song of ice and fire series) for a few reasons. 1) you obviously like Fantasy. Now, its very low fantasy (hardly any magic, and Humans being for the most part the only race) but its very well handled. 2) has a heavy focus on characters, and they are pretty interesting complex individuals and very few are obviously good or evil. 3) Has a complex story that gets more and more interesting as the novels progress (the politics and intrigue in it are utterly fantastic). 4) you like TV, and it is being turned into an HBO series (starting in April) with apparently the highest budget for a show they've ever produced with the possible exception of Rome.

Currently there are 4 books out, and the fifth will be out in a couple months, there will be 7 in total. Each book so far is about 1000 pages, some being a tad less others being a tad more, so if you get into it, it should eat up tons of hours and help make the wait for Skyrim be that much more manageable haha.

50ft of snow, yeah right. This year has been an above average of snowfall though. go to a community center and go skating, tobogganing. I take the dog for walks and play with her in the field near my house. Try to pick up another hobby. I'm currently unemployed so I am having trouble filling up my days with useful things. I try to only play games in the evenings but it can be boring sometimes. I've got books ahead of me and a few electronics projects that I am working on. These keep me busy. But I don't get out with friends very much. So many of them are moving away with jobs. I need to find some new friends!

Hobbies include hanging out with friends, video games, and computers. Thats a big red flag? I don't like going out during the winter which is a common trait amongst alot of people. I don't hate reading I just hate books.

One cannot hate books if they don't hate reading. You've just clearly never read the right books haha, perhaps check out the books based off the Elder Scrolls? i heard they are alright.

Sorry to double post. Yes there is 50 ft of snow outside, thats what happens when theres a 3 day blizzard, your shovel is broken, and all the plows in town push the snow into your driveway.

You could always be like me and just discover two days ago just how awesome Star Trek: Next Generation really is.

That will keep your mind off of Skyrim, and make you want to play Mass Effect

They also don't sell from midnight to nine in the morning.

Unlike in Skyrim, where even time is on a friggin tap.

Consider youself lucky that Skyrim only ruined your gaming. For me it ruins my working haha. I'm lurking in this forums during work and it became an obsession. I don't have time even to play because it takes too much time to read in the forums. i also read in Tesnexus, in planetelderscrolls and in many other magazine forums. It's overwhelming and it won't stop until November, damn!

I have a life.
Its called elder scrolls.

Besides, I tried that real life thing, but the big flaming ball in the sky scares me. I think it wants offerings.

If I were you Id try to get into Daggerfall and Morrowind. They are great games and youll be immersed in elder scrolls lore and surroundings. Wich is nifty.

LOve this lol:)

P.S. try 2worlds 2 its not oblivion or morrowind, but it is fun and is an open world rpg, just dont have super high expectations, its good for the Poles to have made. Read a book I still enjoy a good book every night before I go to sleep I read,...sure its dr. suess but its reading and thats good for the mind.

For me this is the yucky thing about gaming ... it displaces music in my recreational activities. My music is on iTunes, but it is all-too-often easier to boot up the 360 than begin learning my new recording software. Yuck. Plus, I actually get to talk with people on Xbox Live, while making music I am sitting in a proverbial corner with just me/myself/and I.

COD as a elder scrolls substitute? You have got to be kidding me.

Why does it have to be an elder scrolls substitute? It just has to be something to tie you over. If what you wanted out of this thread is a substitute to elder scrolls, there isn't one, give up <_<
