Skyrim has ruined gaming for me...

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:08 am

Ever since this game was announced i have become bored of gaming. I still play games but they no longer have that fun factor that they once had. After hearing of the annoucement the max time i was able to play a game was 12+ hours straight, now i can barely get to 2 hours. I spend my weekends watching TV or doing nothing usually i game for 24 hours straight and sleep all saturday, then sundays i go outside to buy energy drinks with my friends. Now i dont want to play anything. I just sit there and post on forums, i am trying to get into morrowind and mass effect but neither of those games can draw me in. I usually get like this for new game realeases that i really want but it usually dont happen until 2 weeks before release. I really want Skyrim, its the only way to end this state i'm in. Throw some games at me that are like elder scrolls maybe a game like that can end this. I would just go outside but theres like 50 feet of snow out there so gaming, tv, and internet is all i can do.

do what i did, join the military lol ill be off at basic and tech school and be back right before it releases XD

Says who? Let people live the life they want and reserve judgment. There's nothing wrong with being a recluse. In fact, I initially felt like crap being the hermit I am by nature because people told me it was a waste for a "girl like me" to stay inside and not go out clubbing or with friends (   ) . It wasn't until I ignored their crap and embraced my highly introverted and introspective nature that I felt good about myself. So THAT'S the advice I give to the OP - ignore people telling you how to live your life, if you have fun staying in and enjoy playing games all day, then do it. There's nothing better about "real life" in fact I find "real life" svcks most of the time, so I avoid it. As someone who is conscious even when I'm sleeping (lucid dreams and astral projection) "reality" is whatever it is you are experiencing in the present moment, that's all.

And I don't seem to have the same problem as the OP, though. I've been playing Oblivion, Morrowind and Dragon Age and still having fun... though I don't like to think about how far away Skyrim is, because it DOES get depressing.

Very intelligent answer. If you enjoy something, do it. Enjoy doing what you love while you can

Me being 18, I enjoy going outside when there's 50 feet of snow on the ground. I love the snowy weather, I go out and sled or something. In fact, recently I found a pipe that busted by some train tracks and a GIANT mountain of ice formed where it was spraying, it's at least 17 feet tall. As I was exploring, I was thinking "this could be Skyrim! :D"

That sounds awesome!

Really, OP? Well, enjoy not having fun gaming for almost a whole year while waiting for Skyrim...I guess.

do what i always do when im bored!! jack off!!! just kidding, do movies! creating movies are a really cool away of passing the time, maybe in the beggining you won't like it, but when you finaly develop a cool story, maybe get some friends around( i did it the hard away, i was alone , one week to start the school again, i did a stupid action scene with me agaisn't my clones, the camera man was a bunch of chairs and a table, with a thing i did with lego that help me manipulate the camera((up or down))) , when you get into it you only will want to see it ready, you will give your self to it!, maybe you can film in the snow, it doesn't care , let your imagination open for things like that, add as many special effects as you can to make things badasser!! i always liked to impress with my movies, but i never did impressed anyone... YET! never giveup ftw, and i play 5 hours straight almost every day, when i don't want to go to the gym.. wich is kinda boring ,so i only go there like.. 3 days a week lol, get a couple of friends to your place and make somenthing creative, just for fun, then show then, thats a wonderfull way of passing time , since your going to spend like the entire day laughting like hell and getting really exciting about hwo awesome your movie its going tobe!!(hint, like capcom, try to work on the badass character, make someone so powerfull that hes arrogant, so that when the good guy go there to try and kill him, everyone would be happy, and in the same time, sad, because he was to badass to die :hubbahubba: )

Sorry, man, I can't help you. I'm in the same scenario, though in my case it's a good thing. having a baby in April and gaming is gonna be scarce for the first six months, which is good, cuz i'm got nothing interesting to play till november anyway.

seems my natural timing was good! Don't empregnate you wife/girlfriend for this though! That's a bad reason to do it! you'd get it in november anyway...

Edit: the second paragraph was sarcastic... forgot to mention that...

Either pick up COD:BO for the PC and do multiplayer or League of Legends. Those are competitive multiplayer games but they are always fun, it's what I use to pass the time until Skyrim :celebration:

I`m just trying to get through till Skyrim comes out and i`ve already told my wife that i`m having a week holiday to enjoy it. Some things are just meant to be savoured and in peace and quiet...(think i`ll pack her of on holiday for a week  )

Same here.
I'll be sending my wife away to visit her parents for about....well, until Skyrim gets boring. Which will be around the time I turn 80.

play an mmo like LoTRO.
you can literally play that for thousands of hours, and you dont have to pay anything untill you feel like it.

Not 50 feet; but I live in Alberta which can have snow until May. Make the best with what you have, otherwise you'll be miserable.

I also live in Alberta, and let me tell you, it's a hell hole. Edmonton is a dirty, smokestack choked pit of a city and as soon as the housing market comes back to where it was 3 years ago I'm leaving and never coming back. It's dark when you leave for work and dark when you go home, its a nightmare.

@ OP I hear you buddy. I was going to suggest The Sabatuer but I see your already playing it, I loved taking out every Nazi outpost in the map and thought it was one of the most underrated games from what used to be one of my favorite devs. I'd also reccomend Demons Souls like many others here have. As for being a shut in who cares what others think, do what you want. Society is enough of a cage as it is without worrying about pleasing others. and maybe if there wasnt so many rules, red tape and hoops to jump through, "real life" would be alot more appealing. That ''put on a happy face" crap is a double edged sword as ignoring or denying your own unhappiness is delusional. Sorry I couldnt be of more help but I'm in the same boat. Great thread with a ton of entertaining posts.

You could play chess. I do once in a while and it's entertaining. You don't even need a partner.

I'll try that. Thx for the suggestion (although it wasn't for me :) ).

It's about time to RP the char I dreamed to be while I was reading the books: a lone Rohirrim/Dunedain (haven't decided yet) Warrior which defends the limits of the Shire and Bree from evil creatures. I hope I can do that ^^

I actually have many mmos installed on my pc. I cant get into them because they are hard and my friend cant run most of them so i have no one to play with. Thats why i play tales of pirates its free, easy, and easy to run.

Man, I know how you feel. If only more game companies had the money, stamina, and inventiveness required to do RPG's like Bethesda, then there'd be some competition and we could be playing THAT game while waiting for this one. I too was playing 5 hours every day. Then when I heard about Skyrim, since then I can only seem to eat, sleep, and breathe this forum. I actually went to 5 other forums before this one, but those people were cruel, [censored], and hurtful and often mocked me for my ideas. Everyone here is much more respectful, calmer, and more intelligent in their thoughtful replies (or at least funny, which is still intelligence, just cloaked)...

I really hope I can burn out soon on wanting to read information about Skyrim so my life can get back on track and I can get back to enjoying other things. It's too hard to live in a state of obsession for very long.

No the snow here is dirty.

@Skystorm77
Yeah I noticed that about this forum, thats why I left Fire Pro Club. This forum is more mature and intelligent than all those Grammar Nazis that troll on Fire Pro Club.

Dragon Age 2.

Edit: Id also second the Minecraft suggestion. Two Worlds 2 is supposed to be half decent actually, you could also get into an MMO... Dont bother with Mass Effect 1 IMO, just play ME2(on the 360, not PC) because therye two completely different games and if you want more backstory you can always go back and play the first one.

Personally Im playing Oblivion VANILLA quests while I wait for DA2, its refreshing. Im about as much a "loser" as you are OP, because honestly if it werent for video games Id have a pretty miserable existence. I read books too. Actually might I recommend to Malazan Book of the Fallen series? The 10th(last) book is coming out pretty soon and its by far the best fantasy series Ive read.
