Steam is amazing. 4.5 mill and most things work. Try buying tickets for a concert at release.

Can't even start downloading :(

Anyone want to try running DDSOpt over the files (make a backup first) and letting us know how good (or not) they are?

OK I went to Whiterun and ran around jumping like an idiot.

And for me I seen it got from as high as 61 down to 48 depending on what I was doing with no high res pack. With the high res pack it went as low as 44 FPS depending on what I was doing. In my opinion it isnt doing much to hurt FPS
What it is suffering is loading times. Leaving Breezehome took over twice as long with the high res pack than without.

thanks for that :) along as my FPS don't drop below 35 in cities I will be downloading the DLC

mostly clothing textures. both high res esp are active, both bsa files are there.
Sounds like you gotta run a file verification check.
Back in the queue you go :|

4.5 million are not downloading the hi res pack. But Steam holiday sales? Yeah, there are problems. Theyre not perfect

No problem I'm actually really impressed. I expected it to effect performance a lot more than what it is.

I can't even add it to the basket, keep getting that error "sorry, we couldn't add your item", for the last 45 minutes.

Has anyone looked at the new texture pack and see what it actually replaces? Is it on par with the current texture packs users have created on the nexus? Don't want to waste the time downloading it to find that it's worse than what is already available.

Downloading it here in Germany with 360 KB/s, done in two and a half hour. Funny, 360 KB/s is the max possible speed of my provider here, miles away from a city and others with a much higher bandwith just can't get it working.

Don`t go there. Go back and patiently find the OTHER DLC tab and click on that then go to your games and basically wait. You`ll start to see it downloading.

If someone just wants to play without updating, just go offline with Steam... FYI

FYI, I like this chart better than the 'stats' tab at the top of the steam site. Seems more informative if you ask me.

Hah, For me such speed would be paradise

Fluctuating between 200 KB/s and 600 KB/s... normally I get 2ish MB/s

So I want to download this, but the Steam store page seems to think I already have it installed. I don't. Is this happening to anyone else?

http://tnypic.net/24a13.png

Also, are there any mirrors for this yet? It's free DLC, so I don't see why we should need to download it through Steam...
Steam dermands all DLC from all games it sells are also sold on Steam, not exclusively though so a mirror isn't a problem if Beth wants it.

You can check by rightclicking Skyrim in the Library, choose 'view downloadable content' and see if the High Res Pack is already in there.
If that's the case then you just have to wait until it's finished (which might take quite a while, btw).

It's the way things are now days, just like you have to sign up to play a game. The fact that so many games are on Steam shows that devs support it and it's generally a good delivery service for digital games.

I checked them out, didn't have long because it was on my lunch break. I got no fps loss at all, still pegged at 60fps 95% of the time on my system. They are improved and you can tell the difference. There are a few that are still a little to low res, or were maybe not improved. Biggest one I noticed right away was the mountain rock texture, it still looks low res. I will unpack and verify tonight but I'm sure by then tons of other people will have screenshots and anolysis. Overall, I'm happy with them. All I wanted was the vanilla game with better textures, not style replacements.

Two BSAs, two ESPs. (The esp's are just empty placeholders, so that the BSAs get loaded. The actual texture paths of the objects have not changed, so any texture replacer mods you have will still work).
So we could turn them on and off with the esps?

Ah! thanks a lot for the help, as soon as Steam isn't to busy to handle my request I should be able to download.

The difference is, one is a physical copy and the other isn't...And one still hasn't any access for either at this point.
