Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:51 pm

Hi nobody on twitter will answer me but

Will I be able to un-install the DLC if I dont want it anymore

Yes. You can deactivate it in the Skyrim launcher, and you can also completely delete it through Steam.

Yes ofc you can.

HighResTexturePack01.bsa
HighResTexturePack01.esp
HighResTexturePack02.bsa
HighResTexturePack02.esp

Delete them.
And people complaining of no improvement probably haven't enabled the esp's.

(Or they still have their mods installed overriding the beth bsa's ^^ ^^ ^^ )

Yes you do, unless you're running a pirated version.

Please, what makes you think that? That is hogwash!

I spent 11/10/11 at Walmart 15 minutes before midnight to buy 2 retail packages with DVD's. 1 for me and 1 for the wife. So don't even mention those words, it just irritates me. :-(

Just because you are running Steam, doesn't mean everyone is.

I am running Skyrim since the night I bought it with only that first update that was put out. My game date is 11/11/11 @ 12:37 AM.

Then when the Ninja patch came out a week or so later, I turned off Steam and have not used it since.

So get your facts straight first!

Oh, and still, how are you running it after steam has been 'turned off'?

I can advise you to update, the patches fixed a lot of stuff and really improved performance! :)
(And while you're at it, you can get the High Res Pack too ;) )

The texture pack is definitely an improvement on many things, however I am curious. Would I need to extract the BSA to texture files and make a separate bain archive out of that to keep my existing custom textures?

Some of the landscape textures I've replaced seem to have stayed, however things like barrels chests and cabinets are using the Bethesda textures by default now which, though an improvement over default, is in some cases not as good as 3rd party stuff.

Is there a way to keep my custom textures without having to extract the high res BSA? If I do extract it, will there be a significant disk read performance hit (instead of them decompressing straight to memory)?

ok keep getting "couldn't add item to your cart", assuming I'm getting this because the servers are creaking?

All I was trying to say is the abillity to decide to wait if the servers were crushed would be nice. I admit I got a little excessively frustrated though. I'm still pretty paranoid about the whole Steam thing. sorry if I rained on anyone's parade.

Not at all, I should have added some smileys to let you know I was just ribbin' ya! No worries.

Hey! XP was an excellent OS :stare: Tough it is outdated now. 7 is good and with Microsoft's tradition 8 will svck, so 7 will be the most used one for many years to come

7 svcks balls, it is complete [censored]e from a work point of veiw as well. trully a peice of crap.
TBH, Vista 64 is the best OS I have used so far. Only poncy little backwards PC's couldn't handle the bloat and it didn't get [censored] by a new virus every [censored] day.

Oh BTW, did I mention 7 was absolute [censored]e already?

And don't get me started on the 2010 versions of Word/Excel etc, do I really need to enable print, enable editing? Hold on while I phone mummy and check.
Am I some sort of [censored]tard who needs a warning on a coffee cup that it might be hot?

Actually, judging by my spelling and general grammar I probably do.

man you are so lucky! because I had vista, and what a steaming pile of [censored] that was. 7 is a huge improvement, xp still my favourite though.

btw, nice dlc from bethesda.

Since mods are closing new threads on specific questions related to the DLC, I am really hoping someone can answer mine. How do I prevent the BSA from overriding custom 3rd party textures I wish to keep?

That's my question too. I use Skyrim HD which doesn't cover everything so I wanted to use the DLC pack for stuff that wasn't upgraded from default but I'm guessing it just overwrites everything. Presumably you need to install all your texture packs again but I don't know.

I'm still not sure if the new textures upgrade everything or specific parts.

  • The new textures do not cover everything, but very nearly everything.
  • I've not compared the entire thing yet, but the majority of textures found in the Skyrim HD mod are still superior to the ones available in this DLC. It should be noted, however, that the DLC contains vastly more texture replacements.

Not sure if this is correct, but this is what Vurt, creator of Skyrim Flora Overhaul is saying:

Textures installed as loose files overwrite .bsa files, so to use your current texture mods and the official HD ones, you simply need to install the official HD pack and any high res textures you already have in the texture folder will override them.

That answers my question. Thanks :) Next question is, will the new DLC automatically overwrite the Skyrim HD textures? I installed it as a mod with NMM I don't know if that means they are 'loose' textures and I don't know what a bsa file is so the explanation above doesn't tell me anything.

they will surely produce a big big big big FPS hit.

Not really. If you have enough VRAM and system RAM I doubt there will be much difference, with the exception of load times.

If you don't have sufficient RAM, you will probably be more likely to experience hitching and stutter, rather than an overall lowering of FPS.

The exception is, transparent textures. More transparent pixels may require more work on the GPU.

Edit: For the record I have all anti-aliasing disabled in Skyrim, and I use the InjectSMAA layer to improve aliasing. It works for transparent textures as well. Beats MSAA w/ transparency AA, IMO.

You might try looking in the Mods section of the boards, there are folks over there talking about this right now.
