I'm collecting all the books (just one of each copy though!) and hoarding gems. I haven't sold a gem since I started... I've got hundreds in a chest in Whiterun - I'm just waiting for the perfect way to display them.

I filled a basket with amethysts and it looked amazing, and then I came back to my house and the amethysts were all over the floor and the basket was on the roof...hmmm. I want to put them all out in separated piles, in bowls or baskets but I haven't found the right spot yet. Yet to buy Hjerim though so hopefully that has the perfect hoarding alcove somewhere!

I was also collecting all the dragon-priest masks but I have somehow misplaced Krosis. I have a feeling I'll need them for a quest so this is a mega bummer.

I currently have the bedroom chest in Breezehome full of more ingots, filled soul gems and dragon parts than I'll ever be able to use. But other than that, I don't keep very much. Pretty much everything is sold.

After a while, I had 30,000 gold and nothing to spend it on since I could find (arrows, lockpicks) or make (dragonscale/bone armor) anything I needed. So I just straight up stopped picking things up. It was too much of a hassle to lug it to a trader.

I think its from fear of breaking a quest but I basically don't sell anything now other than stuff I craft myself, or obvious junk (i.e. loot drops from basic enemies)

if anything looks remotely "questie" I just store it in my house... (I have Loki's bow, which I found in the troll cave east of Whiterun, I've had it since very early in the game.... its stored in the house..... never used it, but too scared to sell in case its needed later on)

I guess the game has made me somewhat of a hoarder.

you never know when selling an item could break a quest at the moment, so I'm always err'ing on the side of caution

Unfortunately it makes for a very untidy homestead ;)

Now where DID I put that Ebony War-axe ??

Anyone else the same ?

I thought that you couldn't drop anything quest related from your inentory even if you didn't have the quest yet.
I keep alot of things but mainly only as trophies. Named weapons, cool looking equipment, my wife etc. You know, small trophies to hang on the wall.

i literally keep everything! i always say i'll sell it all and make some coin but since none of the vendors have any cash in skyrim that definitely won't be happening. i use each storage device in my house for different things. crafting, weapons, armor, potions, etc. it was a problem for me in oblivion and still a problem in skyrim. you never know when that one ingredient is a necessity for a quest or that potion could save you.

when i clear a dungeon, i haul everything out. I take several trip. I go back unarmed, so i can carry as much as i can. that's why it took me, 400+ hours to finish oblivion.

Hoarders have it good.

Hoarding/Reading books has actually shown me hidden details on how to be better at stuff like pick-pocketing/blocking etc

Also, I am glad I kept all the
Spoiler
dragon priest masks. Was about to sell the first one, had no idea you actually had to hoard them for a quest

Really? Good on me. I've kept all three I've found so far. They're special collectors items! Who would sell them?

I've even still got the special forks and spoons I stole from the person that was killing women in Windhelm!

Okay, I have to admit that I am among the worst of hoarders. In Breezehome the dresser in my room upstairs is for apperal, the chest holds weapons, the left nightstand is where I store my gear when I am using something different, the right one is where I put all my keys. The chest in the alchemy room is where I store books/notes, and the satchel on the alchemy table is where all my ingredients stay. The cubbord by that door holds all the Misc. stuff, the barrel is for everything I want to sell(only things I craft, and anything I have more than 20 of) while the sack under the side table is for anything I have stolen. My food goes in the cubbord by the fire, and things for armor crafting go in the sacks on the shelves by the front door.

I STRIP dungeons bare of EVERYTHING. I don't care if I can't use rolls of paper to make scrolls, or that I have 500 tankerds at home... I think I have a problem...

Yup, guilty. My chests/wardrobes are full of stuff. But it gets even better! I didn't take the housecarl for Honeyside so I decided to turn that room into my personal Dragon Treasure. So now it's filled with a LOT of precious stones, ingots, weapons that look good, dwemer clutter, dynamo cores....yup, all piled up and cleverly locked after Marcurio stole my moth in a jar. No slow downs so far when I enter the house.

So anyone got any information when they will fix the homes?

I want to place loot manually without it falling to the ground after returning home...

Apparently if you save before you exit your house, and reload that game, the items should be 'set'. The poster said this doesn't work for all items, though, so try and retry until you get something with which you're reasonably happy.

if there is one thing that skyrim has gotten right for in its closeness to reality is the feeling of dread i get at thought of moving in skyrim especially considering i can only hire one person to help before this i used to horde but now i cant that feeling of dread prevents me the only things i keep are essentials and trophies (mostly daedric arifacts because i could never hawk a one).

You know it's amazing the hoarding traits TES games brings out of people.

In Real Life I'm every bit of opposite a hoarder, being incredibly clean and frugal. Yet when I go home in Skyrim my home is teeming with bits and boobles. I know I'll never enchant or sell every single piece of jewelry yet I keep making and find more to hold onto. I'm no smith so I've no use for pelts, yet I have the pelt of nearly every animal I've killed. Same for ingots and ore, I buy them and make them but I've zero use for them.

I've been collecting armour and weapons as well. I'd like to have full set of every piece one day but the lack of alphabetical order in chests makes it hard to see how close I am. I also collect every Justicers robe as a marker of how many patrols I've slaughtered. I've more religious amulets than temples. Books are another huge thing for me. I wish there was a house large enough to shelf every book in game.

I haven't taken to collecting misc items yet though my niece collects food items. She could likely feed all of Skyrim for years.

Thank you did not know that one, anyone having problems manually decorating their home?!

I'd always liked it in Oblivion to have bowls full 'o gems and such but it does not seem to work in this game! :(

keep trying i have the display case in markath bedroom overflooding with gems, when it reloaded only 3 had fired out on to the floor. in ob when i tryed this they vibrated so har the lag made the room take your ever to load, i find it alot harder in sr to place objects than in fo and nv, i find it odd that its got harder, i still decorate lots and make cool junk stuff its great fun and attachs you to the game/character/home alot more. Now if only some of the places had more containers for hoarding!

In Oblivion, the first dungeon, I carried out everything with 1 gold value or more. It took many trips to sell it all in town. Then I spent most of the game collecting food and ingredients and making potions. Hundreds of them at a time. Alchemy was the only skill I ever maxed. Then I made several trips to sell them all. I soon enough had to force myself to stop taking the cheap clothes I found. And all the bandits' gear. It got out of hand.

So now, I take all food and ingredients except maybe green apples and gourds, maybe bread, and I cook it. I sell the excess because I have way more food than salt. I make tons of potions. But largely. I use all the crafting supplies, making weapons and jewelry when I can. I mine. I save all special armor and weapons, and I'm now collecting dragon parts instead of selling them. And of course, I take all cheese. You can never have enough cheese.b

I collect books and anything that is rare. I collect any and everything that would suit my character. I find these things hard to get rid of. Alas my characters are also hoarders.

I hoard food and ingredients but especially ale, wine and mead. I think it's fun breaking into someones house just to steal all their alcohol. I got the mod that makes food/drink weightless because I'm such a hoarder and always get encumbered.

I will try that later on thanks hopefully it will work, to be honest i really wonder why they made this impossible this time around, it worked perfectly in Oblivion without any mods!

Unfortunately Breezehome does not have any but i meant placing a bowl by hand and filling it with gems, that does not seem to work! Even placing some armor (iron) which i used well into my level 20's does not stay put on some crates!

When it comes to hoarding I'm pretty lean. I only keep unique items and items with a high, high probability of coming in handy. Everything else is sold asap, so naturally I've got septims leaking out the shirt cuffs. I look forward to the physics in houses getting fixed, if it gets fixed, so I can put my bug jars up and not come home to find them on the floor.

I love that the containers are virtual bag's of holding, i can just keep pouring gear into them :)
Now if i could move the furniture around or place things , the houses would be even better
