Skyrim PC ini and console tweaks

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 10:48 am

what is it exactly FOV does?
Yeah, it increases the Field of Vision/View. It's anologous to looking through a rolled up sheet of paper, and then letting the paper turn from a cylinder to a cone; you're able to see more.

And, some good news!

The FOV change carries over between reloads, sessions, and even system reboots! :celebration:

I wanted to note that with a smaller FOV variable (say, FOV 25) you can get a crisper close up for better screenshots.

Oh my, that's a must have tweak, the bonus is that we share almost identical rigs, save I have a GTX 480. Lovely. Thank's for all the work and info, much appreciated.

Hey, that is clever. Never thought of using FOV as a zoom intentionally.

I plan on using this thread when it's unlocked for me. What numbers did you change the FOV to for 100 and such?

fov 100 for 100 degrees. I use fov 95.

I made a comparison between the land shadows now. Also added to OP.

The rock casts subtle shadows on itself, basically. Note that the larger shadows are unaffected; this is a subtle effect, but an important one, I think.

Hopefully, the "set timescale to" console command will work as well for those of us who want a more realistic time flow (personally, I scaled it to 10)

The console doesn't reject it (and asks me for a number when I enter a word instead), so I assume it works.

You're welcome! :foodndrink:

I just noticed that a mod moved this thread to the Hardware and Software Issues subforum, and now people may not see it. :sadvaultboy:

I do believe now that more people will see it because it won't be lost in the plethora of "Xbox Texture Problem" threads. Really great work man, I'm just itching to get my hands on it.

Oh you and the other guy who asked for this will be so happy. Here they are:

Obviously having TreesReceiveShadows on gives them tons more depth. Land Shadows aren't obviously different in this shot, so we'll have to try and find a good example. Maybe when the sun is up.

Excellent! All the little tweaks help! :)

Sorry for the overexcitement, it's just I can't stand a low FOV, it makes a big difference for me!

This came from http://tweakguides.com/:

Skyrim, the long-awaited sequel to Oblivion, has finally been released. I've prepared an HD YouTube video which demonstrates basic gameplay at maximum settings - it will be available shortly. I'm also writing a tweak guide for the game, as it has a range of in-game settings and a large number of .ini variables which can be tweaked. For now, the most important tweak has to do with the fact that VSync is automatically on and can't be disabled from within the game. This not only reduces FPS, it also introduces mouse lag. To disable VSync in Skyrim, add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

Just thought I would share!

Neither can I. After my first five minutes running around I quit the game and started rummaging around to find the FOV fix, and to turn off mouse acceleration. I tried to google it up, but saw that I was probably the first person to do this (since I am in Australia, and we live in the future, and I was playing at 12:04 AM), and made this thread to spread the info.

Oooh nice. Why didn't I find that TweakGuide when I was googling? =/

Mouse lag from Vsync is actually not noticeable in this game (to me, anyway), compared to other games and to Oblivion. I can look where I want and point to what I want in the menu without feeling like I'm fighting the interface, so it's staying on.

Well, it is not really a 'guide' yet, but he is working on it. I have followed this guy before for TES/Fallout tweaks, and he is amazing IMO.

Looking forward to his Skyrim tweak guide, his Oblivion/Fallout 3 tweak guide was a god send!

I heard there's head-bobbing in thew game. I hope there's an ini-value to disable that.

None of the gameplay videos show any headbobing when walking about.

I know, but according to this topic there is headbobbing in the game: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1255836-is-there-a-way-to-disable-head-bob/

Hmm, I'm wondering about this as well. Is it some motion blur?
