Skyrim Inspirational Sessions #1

Post » Wed Mar 31, 2010 3:36 pm

Hello, long-time lurker here.

I came up with this idea for a topic where we can share inspirational ideas, scenarios, art and footage that we would like to see in Skyrim, in one way or the other. No rules, just let your creative mind go free..
And even if we don't see some of the stuff in the game, someone can always get inspired here and make a mod. A win-win situation!

As the topic starter, I'll go first.

The Gathering
Dark Brotherhood? An evil daedra worshipping clan, perhaps?

Crashing Waves

Dry Winds
This one might not really resemble the geographical position of Skyrim.. but imagine the same scene covered with snow and glaciers.

Gabriela
One of my favorites. Skyrim is home to the Nords right? Nords are like Vikings right? Well, then I definitely want to see some badass ships in Skyrim and even a quest where you explore a ghost ship (or whatever). Think of Mehrunes Razor, but in an ice cold skyrim setting. And Nords instead of pirates. Also, we could have frozen dragons/mammoths under the snow or inside caves?

Frost Canyon
How epic would this be? Seriously.
We need to have some sort of "Mount Everest" in Skyrim, and it should be really really hard to get to the top -- but in the end it should be worth it.

Badlands
Volcanoes. Why not?
Could be where the dragons lay their eggs for them to hatch (because it's nice and warm, unlike any other place in Skyrim). Fits the lore perfectly fine, if you ask me!

That's it from me.

My Nord mercenary character walks through a thick forest. Snow covers the treetops but the forest floor is marked by autumn, frost in the grass and on the leafs that has fallen. Suddenly he find him self facing an enormous plain, in the horizon he sees a huge tower. He walks to the sun goes down before he reaches the tower. A giant black tree has grown right through it, and black ravens sits on all its naked branches. The door is crushed right open, and ancient fading writing stains the cold stone bricks that has fallen down from the tower over the years. He draws the sword and heads inside the tower, what will he find?

hehe, just a picture I got in my head, so I wrote it down in your topic

One think I'm really hoping Bethesda don't do is make all dragons evil. It's rare to ever be on the same side as them, it would be nice to at least have some dragons that weren't apparently flying around murdering the crap out of everything.

Bethesda have a golden chance here to make a decent dragon-riding RPG as well, it's a medium that's been attempted many times before and never quite worked perfectly, it's just a shame that such a concept isn't attempted more. If they get it right, it'll draw in a much larger audience and might actually redeem some of their past royal screw ups with that god-awful Gamebryo engine. Approaching such an avenue also opens up an immense number of opportunities for enhancing other aspects of gameplay such as aerial battles and the like.

Edit: Also weapons, skills and spells that can subdue rather than kill not only would add greater roleplayability but would also serve to enhance or add possible diversions in a game, for example opting to knock out an opponent rather than kill them may allow you to collect a better reward than having them dead or could simply be ransomed off as a hostage if you're an evil character.

Of course how well such features would work or could be implemented is a subject of consideration, you'll have to excuse me if I'm lacking a little bit of faith in Bethesda but the reasons should be more than obvious.

There already is, it's called High Hrothgar, supposedly where the Nords were "breathed" into the world, and thats why the peak is called the "Throat of the World" and the Graybeards live there. Is most likely going to be the Lucky 38, Washington Monument, or White Gold Tower of the game.

Crazy, but here goes... How about a questline that takes place in the city of Daggerfall? You go there via mages guild teleportation to an updated town naturally, and your mission is to remove "some ghost" (no, a new one this time :D) that is forcing the city walls to be impenetrable (city is in lockdown, sort of). Heh, maybe part of the quest is a revisit to Privateers Hold? :D I don't know, I think I would piss myself if that actually happened :P Bonus quest for the long time fans.

No more mole tunnels as caves. http://www.oddee.com/item_94349.aspx. Okay, so they are actually grottos. We really need more cave-like caves, not giant gopher tunnels. And I could bear to see some http://www.oddee.com/item_96958.aspx, too.

It's cold. Snow and ice seem boring. Thankfully, nature provides us with interesting things like http://www.oddee.com/item_96726.aspx. Check out that frozen tidal wave at the bottom.
