Skyrim : 2D Isometric Graphics, 10 Times The Content.

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:24 am

What if Skyrim had 2D graphics, but 10 times the content? Larger cities, 500+ NPCs in each city, MUCH longer quests, unique characters, little voice acting BUT with a stellar script?

i'm one of those guys who doesn't go and upgrade evrytime a new game comes out. My PC will play Morrowind but that's about as far as I get with TES and recently someone gave me a 360 so have played Oblivion on it and now Skyrim.

I like some older games on my PC, such games as you mentioned also Sacred. There's some really good Chinese games like Baldur's Gate which are Prince of Qin and Seal of Evil. If you like Diablo kind of game there's Blade & Sword.

None of these have me addicted like Skyrim.

I'm sorry, but I play TES because it makes RPG intense. I can't stand that 2d sub diablo 2 graphics man and the turn based combat is such a drag, its not intense at all. its boring as hell actually

There's no reason it should have to be one or the other. There have been games with excellent graphics that have a lot of content and compelling stories. Bethesda just always seems to miss that last one somehow.

I would trade in my "3DSkyrim" for a "2DSpriteSkyrimWith10xTheContent" any day of the week.

You should add a third option to your question.

Would you play a text based Skyrim game with 100x the content?

Imagination is a terrible thing to waste.

then why buy the game in the first place if you can just pretend....

I believe the only thing keeping recent TES games from being enormous nowadays is voice acting.

2D Elder Scrolls with 10 times the content? It's called Daggerfall.

Why would people want a series that has always had a FIRST-PERSON view to be isometric, that makes no sense, that'd be like asking Halo to remove all it's weapons and become a game where you walk around in a bird's eye view perspective while you try and nudge your enemy over the sides of cliffs... while they remain armed and the AI ensures they stay away from cliff edges. Don't get me wrong there have been good isometric RPGs in their time but TES has always had this set-up since the beginning/Arena in 1994 and TES isn't just about being an "RPG", there is an experience that relates to it, all this and I guess some people are just crazy...

No, this is just stupid, please stop thinking up other ideas...

And this goes for the "it's all about graphics nowadays, everything else svcks" thing a lot of people think too. No, you're wrong.

the argument that graphics must suffer to get better content is just silly on its face. vampire bloodlines and fallout NV are probably my top two examples of how an FPS/RPG should be done. you get multiple ways of doing things and you get lots of dialogue options and you can even get people so mad at you that they attack you in both games. at the same time they are rendered in 3d with very nice graphics (albeit FNV needed some mods to fix it up abit). there is no reason you cant do both and 2d isometric games need to stay on the PSP and DS where they belong now.

Allow me giving you some advice: If you really enjoy Skyrim or even Oblivion, get a good PC and start modding the [censored] out of them. Seriously, modding turns them into AWESOME machines of doom.

I've played all the games you mentioned plus nearly the whole Ultima-series. Great games! But i really don't understand how someone can seriously say that there's not enough content in Skyrim. This game is so full of content, there's so much to explore, to read, to do... i think it would take me 500 hours to see everything Skyrim has to offer.

No. In this day and age we shouldn't be asked this question. They can do beautiful 3D worlds with rich content. They just don't want to. The time/resources excuse is just bull, the programmers do the programming, the artists do the models and the writers do the story, there is plenty of time to be excellent in all departments with the same budget, if you hire the best people and if you know how to reach your goals.

Yes, they really don't want to do a good game, for some reason they love to lose money because everyone there is lazy and they think that bad games are better. Yes, you is right.

It's more the fault of apparent lack of skill. I refer you to the amount of content, story detail and amazing character design in Fallout: New Vegas (not to mention voice acting), a few of its many qualities. It's proof enough that you CAN do an awesome game with good graphics and gameplay. You only have to want to do it.

I'm not even going to read that wall of text because I know graphics do not effect content, also you should know skyrim turned out small, only 3gigs, they could of easily added tons of more content if they had more time, it would of made no difference whether it was 3d or 2d or just dots.

Fallout 4 from isometric view would be much cooler than a TES game like that. Maybe Daggerfall graphics for next ES

Yeah if you call repeating quests with varying locations and randomly generated lego dungeons content.

Eventually, we will get to the point where games have such great graphics, that it will be impossible for them to get any better. Not counting lower rendering and loading times.
