Skyrim italian coverage

Post » Sat Aug 14, 2010 12:43 am

Wow, that's the most info we've seen in quite a while.

-every weapon has a damage stat and a block stat
-there is a separate control system for the pc
-there are many puzzles in the dungeons
-water physics
-minor cities contains 10+ buildings
-bandits in the dungeons are alive and not puppet-like
-soulgems are also used to regain magicka

Looking forward to this :tops:

-it appears that there are no birthsigns
-you can't create spells. WHAT THE HELL??
-75% of the quests are dynamic. even the rewards and the quest giver are randomized

NOT looking forward to this

-there are fishes that jump out of the water :P
-every town has an economic system
-you can set oil on fire

Interesting little tidbits, but not big gamechangers.

The spoiler is what many of us have already guessed. The NPC's being immortal is neither an improvement nor a step back.

Is it just me that's mad/sad about "- The hud appears only when you fight. you will see the three status bar and the compass."????

I don't want any HUD! And especially not popping up every time you're in a fight!

I would much more prefer some immersive indicators for health, stamina, and such. You could hear your heart beat faster the lower your health is, along with a subtle blur.
And you could hear heavier panting sounds the lower your stamina is.

Also I'm not really sure why a compass would be necessary in HUD when you're in combat. That's more important when you explore...
I would prefer the compass to be built in the UI (in the map-menu there... or something).

We already found out you can use spells in different ways. Fire can be shot out or can be held down like a flamethrower. Fire in both hands can create a greater fireball. Casting on the floor creates traps. This shows us the magic system is nothing like the old magic system. All the old rules that governed a magic character have been changed. As Martha Steward would say, "It's a good thing."

This sounds like a form of spellmaking; you're changing the expression of the effect instead of just the numbers. And able to do so whenever instead of only at a Mages Guild, sorta like Battlespire's spell customization (where you could for example, change fire damage from touch to ranged at any time). While the spellmaker was fun the basic system was pretty much unchanged since Arena. A total overhaul of the magic system could be interesting.

Well, after that I might actually consider not buying this game. Maybe wait a year or two until mods fix it.

Seriously, immortal NPCs? 75% of quests are scaled? No PC UI? Let's get a list of what they've dumbed down so far

-at least 5 or so less skills (considering they added crafting skills, I'd say even MORE removed)
-removed classes
-removed birth signs
-removed spell customization
-removed leveling up stats

What else we got?
Oh, we get puzzles, which will probably be as cool as traps were in the last game :/
Immortal NPCs
Level scaling all over the place
Steam DRM forcing me to log into steam or be online

I just don't understand. The ONE thing EVERYONE hated was level scaling, and they EXPANDED IT
ugh

I think you should relax since it is clearly obvious this info is fake.
The game informer magazine stated that birthsigns would be in the games.
Also no one has provided any source for this, the only thing they have said is an italian magazine called "GMC" which doesn't even show up on google.

Wait a minute, they brought the stupid compass back? SERIOUSLY? But only in combat? How does THAT work?? wtf...

I usually played a mage type character, and found Spellmaking overrated anyway. You really weren't making new spells, just changing existing ones (duration, intensity, range or combining with other spells).

It's possible the spell customization will be included in the perk system.

We will see.

75% of quests are scaled?

It didn't say that. scaled != randomized.

No PC UI?

There's still 9+ months to go. We don't know if they were privvy to a PC version, tried the PC version, or even if the PC UI is finished. Maybe they're putting extra care into it because of all the complaints last time?

Steam DRM forcing me to log into steam or be online

Did you read somewhere that Steam was required?

Thanks for the info Yoae :)

That doesn't sound good for PC players -_-

As expected, it will use Steamworks.

Disappointing. In Oblivion I was forced to make a "heal on touch" spell to heal companions as there was no such spell for sale. I hope it will be in Skyrim then.

You could buy one at the churches.

No idea. But according to what the OP wrote... this is what it seems like?

I definitely wouldn't want any HUD at all to pop up during combat...

If they use Steam as DRM then yes, Steam is required. Man, you can try to explain away all of it, but it's not going to work. They didn't make a PC UI for the last two games, why would they now? Actually, according to all the sources we have so far, they've been putitng a ton of effort into the CONSOLE UI. Not the PC UI.

And yes, "dynamic" means scaled to your character with randomized rewards. Looks like I'll be dungeon crawling and getting 4 coins in every chest because I'm only level 1!

Can I have the game the French magazine reviewed please?

-Skyrim size is equal to Oblivion's Cyrodiil
Less of a world and more of a backyard by today's standards. See Less is NOT more.

-there are birds
-there are fishes that jump out of the water :P
heh, like this :) Shame it is totally insignificant.

-the UI is really user freindly but it's not intended to be mouse-used
Remember, made by gamers for gamers, err

-it appears that there are no birthsigns
Grrrr. An extra +1 or 2 or -5 is always nice to have but the basic truth about character creation is, it doesn't need to mean anything wrt game mechanics so long as it means something to the player who is trying to create a character they can relate to. You can go so far with physical features but attributes and now birth signs will be sadly missed.

-there is a separate control system for the pc
All this means is keyboard and mouse are in !!!!!111!!1One.
They tried to make a feature out of this before the Ob release too.

-there are 100+ subquests
Sounds a low number, I'm sure the official comment will be 'quality over quantity' like it always is. I'll wait for more info but I'm ready to call [censored]. Until proved otherwise, less is NOT more and anyone trying to sell you this line is most likely selling snake oil.

-you can't create spells. WHAT THE HELL??
Even less game to think about while wandering around, another sacrifice to the all mighty combat focus.

-there are houses which you can buy
Nice for console users.

-there are many puzzles in the dungeons
Could be good, hopefully it marks an end to the 'I've found a key, now I must use it to open the door' pop-ups... Hopefully.

-Steam, not gfwl. they're are disappointed with LIVE!
I'm quite disappointed about this. I like Steam but I know some people have problems with it and I was hoping for an alternative. Also, Microsoft hates Steam, 99% chance that any DLC will start as XBox exclusive.

-75% of the quests are dynamic. even the rewards and the quest giver are randomized
If allocated to places you have not explored then RIP exploration. Probably just more level scaled junk.

-bandits in the dungeons are alive and not puppet-like
Means nothing to me.

-soulgems are also used to regain magicka
Need more info on the whole magic system but why would you need soulgems to top up magicka?

-you can set oil on fire
Yay, didn't they have this in BioShock? Ah, BioShock, I remember the guy in the games shop telling me it was a RPG, 'It must be', he said, 'there are so many different ways of killing stuff' [sic]

-every town has an economic system
May be fun.

-water physics
Another feature to add to the list intended for reviewers to enthuse over. Actual value added to the game = 0

A bunch of things sound fantastic (ambient wildlife, PC-specific controls, water physics, element-sensitive environmental features), a bunch more sound rather ordinary, and a few things sound like minor disasters.

I'm also curious of the source of the information, though - I don't doubt the OP, but it'd be nice to know what the magazine's called, and perhaps see the cover.
Edit: Thanks, LostInSpace!

But I Ctrl-F:ed the first page for "scaling". No mentions at all.

Seriously you need to start thinking before you jump to conclusions.

Randomized means you wont get the same reward every time, but it says absolutely nothing about scaling, if it is scaled than it is obviously not random. If you get 4 coins in every chest, then how is that random, seriously.

I'm calling BS on this information. It directly contradicts information that has been published in Gameinformer and I trust them more than an unsourced, unnamed Italian magazine.
