Skyrim w/ Kinect and Voice Control

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:31 pm

Yeah, a HUD would be nice would it. I saw a video on youtube recently of a guy with a shoulder mounted Kinect that projected an image onto his hand that he could interact with. I actually initially navigated the menu's swiping either up or down, left or right, but because some programming limitations it caused complications and bugs with the rest of gameplay.

HUD projected onto his hand? It's amazing where technology is going. I agree that a lot of players would rather sit and play than stand and play through gestures, but with improved responses to actions I would defiantly start playing more games using the kinect. As long as there are options for both controller based gameplay and kinect. I'm sure every gaming sesssion you won't want to playing standing up and flailing your limbs around. Some might not even be able to do that due to space, time of day etc...

I am not a fan of Kinect (although I am a fan of the potential that may come of it), but you have done some cool work. Well done!

Thank you sir, I appreciate the compliment. I am aware not everyone is into motion gaming, but I think that it has its place. Kinect will only gain in popularity as as more mature, less casual, games start to get released. That said, until we start to see those games, i'll probably just keep kinecting PC game titles :)

It looks like it has some ways to go before being rather fluid, but nice work so far!

My knee is not in it's best shape so I don't really see myself using kinect any time soon.

But good work. It must have been a lot of trouble.

Thanks, I'm not sure how much trouble it was; I really enjoyed making it all work. But you're right, with the with all these recent knee injuries...... its not for everyone.

Thanks for the kudos! I'd love to get some feedback on what you thought worked well. What do you feel could be improved?

None. I'd kill to try this out at least once. I'd prefer a controller in the long run, but this is still cool.

I've never been interested in the Kinect much, but this is really awesome. I'd love to try it out, I might not use it in the long run, but it's definitely amazing. Also it's good to know there are people with the creativity and drive to even do stuff like this. This is how awesome things become a full reality.

Good job man.

Not for me at all. Just looks far too tideous and clunky. Takes the fun out of playing the game. Esp when using and controller is like 20x faster than what ur doing.

But none the less it's a great job and amazing talent and hard work ur putting into it so good biz baby!

I've downloaded the FAAST and VAC software, but this is WAY over my head. I really want to try this :(. Are there any guides out there to explain how to set these up? Also, would be interested in how you set up your commands. I think you keybound say flames to 1, then when you say flames it recognizes it and press' one? I guess you have to have both programs running at once?

id love to be able to play the game normally, with my controller, but use the kinect just to shout the dragon shouts.

would be ace if bethesda had done this, and gave the actual words to shout in game when we find the actual shouts, so we wouldnt have to select the shouts, just shout the specific words and that shout would activate.

that would rock

alot of shouts i know, lol

sorry, forgot to mention great work if its legit OP, amazing

Man, you've made a great suggestion and I think others will probably agree; rather than choosing our shouts, we could just say whichever should we wanted to use. I honestly think that once the construction set is available from Bethesda, something like this will be possible. I know that with the Oblivion mods available, I am able to use my voice to cast any spell in my spell-book, so hopefully I can make the same work for Skyrim once the Construction Set is released. Oh, and thanks for the Kudos. It is indeed legit.

That's some impressive work there OP. While I can't really get behind full motion control, the voice commands are pretty nice. What's impressive is that you got it in a working enough condition to play the game. Adding more hotkeys (CK) would greatly benefit a setup like this. Nice job.

Will you be doing an updated video when the creation kit comes out? I'm sure someone will be releasing a mod to add more hot keys

I'm not entirely sure yet. So far I have only been releasing one video per game I do, so probably not. If I find a lot of people are asking me to, I may. One thing I would to showcase is the game in 3rd person. To be honest, I play in 3rd person 90% of the time anyway. It's actually a lot easier to control from that perspective. The other thing is that a lot of people have asked for the Fus Roh Dah, or Unrelenting Force shout, so I thought about doing a short clip with that shout in it. What does everyone else on here think? Should I do a second video, or no?

this is the sort of thing i want to see with kinect, not some cheap tacky full blown kinect games, or tacked on cheap extra's like forza 4's kinect mode, i want to see dev's making good choices.

the whole playing with my controller yet using the kinect for certain things idea would be great.

like BF3 for example, would love to be able to play with my controller as normal, but maybe controll the soldier with kinect on the killcam only, so i can actually tbag someone, lol

mass effect 3 looks good, its controlled with a controller, yet you can shout squad comands and use the conversation branch options with your voice.

take note MS, i want games like this, not ones where i have to jump around like a tit just to play ;)
