Skyrim: Last Elder Scrolls Game?

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:59 pm

I'm really excited about this game. But I've read a lot about it, and watched the trailer, and I'm wondering: is this goiing to be the last Elder Scrolls game? I mean, after all I've read about it (and after the epicness of the trailer), it seems like they're going for some big finish of sorts. I've heard of a lot of companies that put all their work into a single game that's going to be the last of the series (Bungie did it for Halo:Reach, for example, even though there are probably going to be more Halo games by whoever took it over). I hope it's not going to end, but I just want to know what all of you think. :obliviongate:

TES V will probably mark the end of the Third Era, the historical period most of the Elder Scrolls games have taken place in (I believe TESA: Redguard is the only exception). However I don't think this will be the last game in the series.

I highly doubt that Skyrim will be the last Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion had a plot that could easily have been the end of everything, but it wasn't.
Hell, Morrowind's story threatened all existence, as well, but we've got two games after it. :D

Not to mention, it's just simply too profitable.

I wouldn't mind playing in one of the previous eras, but that would be pretty hard on Bethesda's part considering anything the player does, unless it's completely insignificant would entail a major retcon. I'm talking bigger than Cyrodiil being medieval France kind of big.

Wait, was I wrong to think that the third era ended at the end of Oblivion?

No, I highly doubt it's their last TES game. Market standpoint wise, it'd be a silly idea. From a developing standpoint, they've always put most of their crew to work at the game (then shifting half as new projects get started/old ones get finished). So really, I don't see any evidence of this game being the last one.

Oblivion ended the Third Era. :whisper: :)

And no, the Elder Scrolls is still a money-making machine. So it'll continue.

The Third Era ended the moment Dagon was cast back into Oblivion. It's been the Fourth for over 200 years.

I don't think this'll be the last. Although it sounds like the plot could end in the destruction of the world and space-time itself, well, most of the other games did, too. I at least hope Bethesda makes enough games that we can visit all the other provinces.

Pete Hines after Quake Con 2009, "... Both Todd and I have said repeatedly that, of course, we’re going to do another Elder Scrolls game. The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we."

Unless Skyrim utterly fails, I don't see why the same reasoning wouldn't apply for TES VI.

Considering that skyrim will have really been there 3rd successful game in the series and second successful game with mass appeal why, oh why would they stop now? Besides, Elder Scrolls V will set the prophecies for the coming of the 4th era as stated by the end of oblivion in which [

The elder scrolls are sort of a string of epics. Its going to be really hard to end the series unless the 9 divine themselves are done away with. As long as men or women of any race have the potential to be chosen for a higher destiny beyond that of an average mortal, the elder scrolls games are going to continue. The world of Nirn still has plenty of tales left to be told. I think Beth realizes this.

No, you're right. TES: Skyrim takes place in 4E 200. The Third Era ended at Oblivion. It just stayed the Third Era for gameplay reasons.

And as others have said: No. It's the finishing touches of this story arc, but we have plenty of other scrolls to look through. :D
