Skyrim leveling problem

Post » Fri Jun 07, 2013 11:05 pm

There is a problem in Skyrim leveling system compared with previous games. It is because of the perks, we have to choose one perk in every level ups.

Let say i level many skills to 30 such as Two Handed, Alchemy, Speech and Heavy Armor...when level up i only can choose one perk. If i choose Two Handed, i must wait 3 level ups to choose other skills perks and during that time i don't gain benefit from level 30 skills that i don't choose the perk earlier

Isn't that a problem?

In Oblivion i get every benefit from skill level when it rise to certain level automatically, but in Skyrim no matter if having skill level 100 it don't giver any benefit except for few skills such as smithing to upgrade weapons/armor but not to made them.

It is hard to choose which perk, if i choose this, i won't get any benefit for others in few level ups while i also need those perks in that moment, but when reaching level 40 and above it doesn't matter anymore because it already too late and my character have explore 80% of the map and complete most of the quests

Nope... You can let them puppies accumulate and be used at your leisure.

... sorry, that's all of the OP I understood. I mean you get a perk point every level.

You still get the benefit of levelling your skills regardless of whether you take a perk or not. The perks are just extra bonuses on top of the improvements to the skill that you've already gained through increasing them.

No problem that I can see.

Your Block is still more effective that it was when it was at 15.

The same for all the skills. An Alchemy level of 100 is a lot better than a skill level of 15. The potions are more powerful.

The same for smithing. You don't need to spend a single perk in it to improve any unenchanted weapon or armor to Legendary. You just need to boost your Smithing skill to 168.

You'll block better than you would at say thirty, though not as effectively as if you'd had the perks.

skyrims leveling is better than oblivion.
with perks you can choose your characters main skills and non perked skills are left as minor skills.
if I made a pure mage but perked archery, that wouldnt make sense.
perks make the character type.

But, we don't get a full benefit if not investing perks

In Oblivion if i got skill level 25 in everything i got skill level 25 FULL benefit on everything

The problem is that without perks most of your your skills svck, even if you level them to 100.

Has any of you played the game leaving your main combat skill unperked? I haven't tried it, but it doesn't look viable. Maybe I'm wrong, but assuming I wouldn't abuse smithing, I really don't think I'd fare very well.

You can't improve enchanted equipment without perks.

That's the whole point of Skyrim's system, you have to make a choice what way you want to specialize.

That's because in Oblivion, your perks were awarded automatically. In Skyrim you get to choose what you want.

Nobody is saying not to choose perks. In fact you should to be effective, in most skills but it's not an absolute.

That is true. I shall amend my previous post so it doesn't draw any more microverbology.

That is the problem, that i have to choose perks to invest in, if i level both One Handed and Block at 50, i have to wait another level up to choose the one i am not choose in previous level up, along the way i gain no benefit from what i am not choose in earlier level up.

Let say One handed damage vs defense rating, i have to choose between the two on level up

When we get higher level, level ups are slower, along the way we level our One handed skill 80 and Block 80, then we level up, we have to choose between One Handed damage boost vs Damage Reduction boost from Shield, that is bad, because we will not get bonus for the whole time until next level up on perks we don't choose in previous level up

choice is better.
people say skyrim is already too handholding. Automatically gaining perks will make the game even more simplified.
choice is better.
You have a defensive skill and offensive skill.
you have a choice- Deal more damage or take less damage.

Wrong, that is a good thing. It forces us to make a choice rather automatically rewarding. If perks were given automatically, each and every character would eventually end up being identical.

As Sword and Shield warrior i want both, but i have to choose between the two on each level ups, i don't need to choose in Oblivion, which skill i use most i will gain skill benefit when they reach their level

Of course you'd want both, so would I But having to choose between damage dealt and damage blocked makes the game more enjoyable.

Isn't the concept is we are getting better on what we do when we practice or doing it many times? How come we have knowledge of Smithing 100 but cannot make Dwarven armor while other peoples may have Smithing 20 can create Dwarven armor because they have that particular perk?

That not make sense

Oh noes, we can't have everything and do everything! It's a good thing, I think. We need to choose what's more important to us.

Don't worry. While having no perks at all is detrimental, missing one or two won't make your game noticably harder. In fact, it's common practice to hold back on a few perks to use them later.
