Skyrim is like a single player MMO

walk around, adventure, pick up quests (agree to do it, or disagree, no grey area). Its fun, but gets boring real quick. Bethesdas formula of, 'creating large open world games where the player can do whatever he wants and adventure' just doesn't cut it anymore, its 2011, nearly 2012.

I dont think its enough to just create an environment, throw the player in and say 'have fun', that worked a couple of years ago with daggerfall, morrowind and even oblivion but i would have thought bethesda would have evolved a little bit by now and added more depth into their game.

what im talking about is story telling and writting, its just piss poor in skyrim, almost non-exist... atm i really dont seem to give a [censored] about nearly 99% of the NPCs in the game, they're all 2-dimensional and mindless. Bethesda should look at bioware and pick up on their ability to tell storys and maturely develop characters (lets be honost, the 'wife' system is a joke).

I mean, fine, keep the side quests as they are. but at least put more effort in creating an epic main quest with good voice acting, believable characters that develop through the game and have different personalities and even mature relationships because atm the dialoge in this game is just so shallow

Really? All of the quests I've found from NPCs just wandering around villages and stuff have been really interesting. The get X guy 10 of X quests from X dungeon are just an excuse to go to that dungeon, which I think is nice, considering all the dungeons are hand designed now and feel much better(Forts are still a bit generic, but they're usually pretty small anyway.)

Can't really compare Bioware games to TES, they are much more restricted (and a lot worse IMO). That said, I'm sure there will be mods making the NPCs more interesting.

'large open world games where the player can do whatever he wants and adventure' games are still my favorite, I'm horrible at following along with stories in games for the most part so just going around killing stuff and leveling up feeds my enjoyment.

I think the quests and story I've seen thus far are fine. Maybe not epic, (I haven't finished the MQ yet so I don't know) but if I had to choose I'd rather have epic sandbox and average story than epic story and no sandbox (linear game) or average sandbox. The fighters guild so far seems really nice with the little speeches and other events I felt moved where in Oblivion I chased rats and other ridiculous quests. For sure they are improving which is fine with me considering how epic the game is as a whole.

They have said that it is your journey that is the story and that is what I fell for.

The crazy amount of sales and praise for this game would disagree with you.

i guess thats why im not really getting into this game, like i use to like this sorta stuff too... 5 years ago though, its just the same recycled formua, new world, adventure, kill pixelated enemies...

If bethesda can get the hang of writing and character development, they would be able to create some amazing games.

I totally disagree with your statement I've gotten lost more than a few times with the story....sounds like you're either trolling or haven't played but 2 seconds of this epic experience we call skyrim

Now, I take it slowly - but judging from the character and dialogue design of The Companions (Warriors Guild) this has been done with much love to the detail, great voice over and really memorable characters. Perhaps you should give youself more time to soak it in?

I find it to be a rather immersive world that I compare to the level 15 and below world of Dungeons and Dragons. Fantasy world, adventure to save it, destroy it, or just make magic arms and armor to sell to the populace. Quite enjoyable. What do I need real people for now?

i still think you can have both...simply implement a very good main quest and some longer engaging side quests and some shorter ones...dont see the problems to combine both....fallout new vegas went into the right direction...

exactly, atm the guild quests are fine, they're side quests and for side quests, they're great. but the main quest and pretty much 99% of the npcs dont have the charm seen in bioware games, obviously theres more NPCs in skyrim, so im not saying every single npc needs to be unique with their own personalites and dialoge, but there should be a hand full of NPCs that you meet throughout the game that evolve with you, have different reactions to the choices you make throughout the main quest and form relationships with you, aka. character development.

I mean, look at the players companions, they're like zombies, only good for carrying your equipment while they mindlessly follow and attack what you attack, bethesda could have given some of these companions their own unique story, background and personality instead of having 1 or 2 re-occuring lines.

The world IS the story. Look at the attention that's gone into each town, read the books lying around, listen to the conversations between NPCs (they've come a long way since endless mudcrab discussions!), discover a little hunter's shack with a corpse who died from disease all alone in the wilderness.

I enjoy some Bioware stuff, but this looser and more subtle storytelling works better for me.

*sigh* Doesn't matter how good the game is, theres always people out there who won't give a damn and will choose to disrespect the amount of work put in to these games

I completely agree. New Vegas did this well, a combination of great writing and open world atmosphere. Bethesda should team up with Obsidian for the next Fallout game, otherwise we'll end up with more poor wiriting.

Yes you have a point.

If you look at the short stories in books, they are actually very entertaining. Not the mention the rich lore of the entire world.

I was especially captivated with the dwemer in Morrowind. Up until now, I still wanted to know what happened to them. Then someone linked me the developers' answer to what happened to them a few weeks ago.

This shows that Bethesda has the ability to create interesting lore, but for some reason, don't want to capitalize on it.

I don't see why they don't want to have cutscenes with detailed conversations to enhance the story. Maybe it doesn't fit in the open-end world of Skyrim. But Bethesda has the potential to write good lore.

exactly, i agree, the game is great, but im complaining about wasted-potential. the game is great but it can be amazing.

Bethesda nail down; large immersive open worlds, what they need along side that is great stories and memorable characters, which atm they do not have. at. all.

Why not make your own story? Plenty of quests and other opportunities to RP, I've always believed RPing is what Elder Scrolls, and most every good RPG, is all about.

And really? Bioware? I'm assuming you haven't played DA2...
