V - Skyrim Loading Screen

Post » Fri Jul 16, 2010 5:13 am

I have no idea how the loading screen will be in Skyrim or how many loading screens there will be, but if you know anything about it.. your welcome to share!
But despite what's coming, we all have our own opinions for what we would like to see, so I hope you all vote and share your own thoughts and ideas.

I'll just tell you all why I prefer a screen fading quickly to black when I enter a house or dungeon, then fading quickly out of black when I'm inside the dungeon.. it's because in that way I would feel more "connected" to the world rather then have some "commercial look" showing up on my screen counting down or filling up a bar. Right.

What I want is very different from what I expect to need. Ideally, I would love no loading screens and to just experience seamless transitions into separate areas (cities and buildings). The game probably wouldn't run too well, for me, if the gameworld was that well-connected, though.

Of course, I would PREFER that the game is so streamlined that I don't even see a loading screen when I enter a dungeon because it loads so quickly.

But I'll be realistic and say that we're going to experience something like that.

I can agree with you about the fading to black thing, but I'm sort of impartial. I've dealt with games that had a fade to black, and I've dealt with games that had loading screens. Waiting is waiting, so it really makes no difference to me.

But waiting to enter a house in Oblivion wasn't long, like 0-2 seconds? I would rather have black then to see that loading screen, aye.
Imagine all the times you will see it, it will register in your brain. You don't want that. You need to belive Skyrim is a real world, black is the way, he he.

In an ideal world (especially going into houses & dungeons) I would like no loading screens at all - but that probably isn't going to happen. If by classic you mean the ones in Oblivion, I wouldn't mind it. I liked the Oblivion loading screens. In a way.

You should request that on TESNexus forums. Maybe you get lucky.

If you could guarantee no loading then obviously that!
Anything that keeps me in the game is gravy baby.

Uh, maybe if you have an amaing computer.

Mine take about 6 seconds or so average and on my PS3 it would be more than double that.

If there were anything other than the typical loading screen, I feel as though it should be an option. There are three separate platforms this game will be released on that typically have different loading times from one another and, within the PC gaming community alone, load times can vary greatly. Therefore, I believe there should be options as to what happens. The black screen or no screen change may be ideal for those with faster PCs while loading screens may be ideal for those who have to wait a bit longer. Or, anyone playing on any platform may just prefer any of the three or something else regardless of load time waits, so I think this should be an option for any and all people playing Skyrim on any platform.

Loading screens are gonna happen, we are stuck with them. As long as they don't take the seeming eternity that New Vegas's took, I'll be happy.

There was something truly screwed up about New Vegas' loading times. Even the full install to my PS3's HDD didn't seem to make a difference from the loading screens in an uninstalled 360 version.

The fancy animated screens Bioware is famous for might be better than what Oblivion had. If I'm going to be stuck waiting, you should at least show me something very pretty.

Loading screen please. Preferably with information about the game world or quotes. But no tips on gameplay. I really dont like the black fades in Witcher 2 even if they are really short. They feel...useless, like they shouldnt be there.

The best loading screen is a seamless world with no loading screens whatsoever, of any type.

Barring that, if there are loading screens- their existence alone does their dirty work and I don't care one whit how they're done. Game tips, cartoons, fade to black and back- it's still a loading screen.

Won't happen because of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, they don't have enough memory.
But yes, it's kinda funny it has been many years since Oblivion and they are using the same engine, so I guess least we should expected was a seamless world.

Skyrim has a new engine actually, the Creation Engine. The specifics about Oblivion's engine are somewhat of a mystery, because no one can really figure out what role Gamebryo served.

agreed i never liked loading screens, the problem is not the game its the compact disc it take longer for any drive to read a disc, but the faster the the drive the sooner the game will load ( plus motherboard and CPU speed), does any body remember the nintendo 64, in playing zelda on that it took maybe 2-3 sec of black and your in the city. cartrages are faster and believe it or not they actually can fit more memory into them as well.i mis

How they're done does actually matter a bit.... one thing that I really missed in Mass Effect 2 was the "elevator" loading sequences from ME1.... yeah, people complained about the ME1 ones at the time (and apparently, they were stupidly long before it was patched), but the inter-party conversations and news broadcasts really added something that was missing with the more generic loading screens in ME2. :)

As for Oblivion & FO3.... I really didn't mind the loading screens. But, of course, I was on PC and they weren't that long.

I hate loading screens (I much much much prefer a seamless world. So many more possibilities... so many more), but if I have to deal with them...
... then I'd like loading screens to be concept art pictures of relevant areas.

Example: Enter Whiterun, see a concept art picture of Whiterun. Enter a tavern, see a concept art picture of a tavern, etc etc. You get the point :)
