Skyrim Logo Tattoo-- Permission from Bethesda

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 11:31 am

To Bethesda. My friend and I are wanting to get a tattoo of your logo for The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim just the logo, no letters or anything. I am asking permission as avoid legal conflict on ownership rights, etc. We are not going to get this tattoo for any other reason other than love for the game. If a member of your staff would reply saying that we may or may not have this tattoo it would be appreciated. Thank you.

It's not "Skyrim's logo". The Dragon symbol has been in the TES saga since http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Redguard:Redguard, or even before....

So why don't you email them instead of posting on a forum they rarely comment on? I think that would be a better way to ask them.

So if someone asks you "Hey man, that's a cool tattoo you have there... what is it?", you'll say "It's the dragon symbol from a video game series." ? :/

It is a badass symbol. I always wanted to steal one of the tats from Fable. I told my fiancé if I get a tattoo it's going to be armour-like just like in Fable. Ha.

you don't need copyright to get a tattoo mate. You could get coca-cola tattoo'd on your face and I doubt they could do anything, except maybe give you a pat on the back for free advertising

Go for it, I'd say. It's not like they could hack your limbs off or anything.

[but it could cost you an arm and a leg]

Have you not seen the pics from others who already have the tat? What's Bethesda going to do if they don't like it? Remove your arm? ;)

Well, I'm not into stupid copyright laws, but I think there's no problem with that*. Besides, I doubt you'll cross around a Bethesda lawyer in the streets in all your life, so I'd think you're safe to do it.

*Warning: I'm probably underestimating humanity' stupidity, so I'm not responsible for any problems you find if you put in that tatoo (j/k  ...well, partially).

Just in case, send an e-mail to them :) Normally there shouldn't be any problem, but when dealing with lawyers & ip-stuff, it's always better to have correspondence and permission. Even if it is just a formality ;) Besides, they'll lmost definitely agree to that - this is just to make sure.

*one thing - If there's still time, specify that you want to get this tattoo for yourselves, not add it to your design palette as a tattoo artist - because that last one could be potentially troublesome.

There are no legal issues. It's an artist's interpretation of the logo- he's inking into your skin, not sewing a Bethesda-made patch to it.

Precisely. I'm getting the full dragon-logo tattoo and I don't have to go through with any legal stuff.
Same as when I got my Decepticon logo tat.

Limb amputations are confirmed out

Someone else got the same AKATOSH tattoo and was showing it off... might ask them the legal restrictions... if there is any.
