Skyrim looking like Oblivion

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:35 am

From what ive seen, Skyrim looks exatly like Oblivion exept with a new engine and a few perks. For 6 years of development im expecting Crysis 2 graphics for a 2011 game. with todays technology, the game looks terrible compared with other newer games. Even Inde games can do better. Looks like I wont be buying this game after all.

If you expect all new games to have crysis 2 graphics then be sure to be dissapointed .
Oh and did you mean that Skyrim was in 6 years of development? Where on earth did you hear that? :unsure2:

What i'm saying is that if you can enhance the game by useing DX11 and tessellation, then why not?

If it's such a simple meaningless change, then I wonder why all games don't just look photorealistic?

Crysis is a game that relies on it's graphics above all. The first looked bland and boring, but with beautiful graphics. When you factor in all of the features and content found in Oblivion or Skyrim, that stuff takes a lot of work for an engine to run, doesn't it?

I'm not as educated on this stuff as most people on here, but I can still understand that every game will be different due to it's content, and limitations of hardware or engine. Just because one game has great graphics does not mean every other game after that can have those same graphics.

Of course i'd love better graphics, but they look great already, so i'm a happy camper!

Just concerning this question of yours, you're very wrong.
The very best graphics can also be scaled to the very worst on PCs.
There are always graphics slider.

The Graphics for Crysis is the only good thing about that game. Skyrim will be different and the Graphics look much better then they were in Oblivion plus you don't need amazing graphics to have a good game.

Don't buy it, so when I enjoy playing Skyrim, I can think of one poor guy who is missing all the fun, because he doesn't like the graphics. :D

Sigh. Well, that's it then. I'll get on the phone to Todd and let him know to cancel.

[/ObligatorySarcasticResponse]

The graphics could be better, but a few screenshots don't tell the full story and Skyrim's 9 months away, as of yesterday. Content-wise, it looks set to blow everything else away. Could always wait for its release, since right now, you couldn't buy it even if you wanted to.

It's POSSIBLE for me to play Oblivion on my backup 7 year old laptop. But the settings I have to use for it make it look like crap - certainly crappier than older games that are actually designed for the 7 year old system.

First of all, I don't care much for graphics. Morrowind is still better than Oblivion. From what we've seen, the graphics are pretty good. Not the best of today, but you can't expect that from such a huge game.

Guys, he's just a [censored] troll. Actually, I can't tell if he's serious or not.

OP: Here, OP! READ BELOW!
1. Yup, Minecraft, an indie game, sure as hell looks better than this...
2. What are you talking about? It already looks awesome, but I agree that there is some room for improvement, as I will state below...
3. They are not finished with the game.

True, but they look pretty good already imo.

All we need is MUCH better anti-aliasing (we will get this on PCs), and MUCH higher texture resolution on some textures (we will hopefully get this on PCs).

Finally, we need better lighting and some more work on the shadows in my opinion. It can definitely be improved.
Oh, yes... some new, optimized shaders would be nice too. That's all that I want to be changed, really.
