Skyrim Main Theme Orchestral Cover

Post » Tue Jun 29, 2010 5:56 am

Hi everyone !

Sorry if I make some mistakes, I'm french and my english isn't very fluid ...

Like a lot of you, I think, I've seen and love the last Skyrim's trailer, and especially the music. I've decided to transcribe the piece by ear for my virtual orchestra, with my plug-in on Cubase, just for fun in my free time.
I've spend the last 3 months to do it, and now I'm mixing the track, but I've already post a preview on Youtube, here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajwAZ5ScyZE

Update : I've done the mix, here is the final version : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl3SGuIjCX8

I'll be glad if there is some feedback.

Hope you'll like it, and a better version will come !

Wow, nice job. It would be nice to hear a version with the vocals changed to instrumental voices

I can do that, and I think I will. Doing the choirs was the hardest thing, and I'm not very happy about the result. I will think about it.

Very good, though the first brass seems a little flat.

Thanks ! I'm totally agree for the brass, it's because I haven't done the mix yet, I'm doing it now.

Change the choirs. The "oh" seems annoying over and over and over and over again.
But It's pretty good.

Thanks. For the choirs, if I change the vowels, it's sounds too electronic. It's the best I've got for now ... But I'm trying to make it sound better.

The strings in the beginning and the lower half of some of the brass seemed like it was off a bit or something. Other than that, very nicely done!

Thanks ! I put the brass of a little bit because you almost can't ear them in the original version. And I will correct the rest with the mix.

Thanks ! I've used Cubase 5, and virtual instruments from various producers (ProjectSam, EWQL ...). There names are on the video.

Well, for starters I generally don't like fan made music. That said, however:

1. You actually put some effort into this, and it sounds better than almost any other fan music I've heard. Well done on your part.

2. This theme is so epic that there's almost no way that it could sound bad anyway.

Nice job. I would critique and offer useful suggestions, but I don't know enough about this sort of thing to comment in a meaningful way. The vocals sound really artificial, but I think that's true of anyone that doesn't have access to an actual choir.

Wow, thanks ! It's the first time I do something like that actually, I'm not really fan made music neither. For the choirs, I found a way to make them sound a bit better, but yes, without real choirs, it won't sound human. Thanks again !

Awesome job indeed! As some mentionned, it really is very high quality fan-covering, kudos to you!
Your other stuff on youtube is pretty impressing, too. Can't wait to hear more of your composition!

If I may ask, for how long have you been composing/remixing/covering? And how long did it take you to do this cover?

PS: ouaiiii France en force ;)

PPS: Oh, and by the way, http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mwmythicmods.com/fishystick.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mwmythicmods.com/fishy.htm&h=319&w=194&sz=12&tbnid=7ZK1yvFBUjb6LM:&tbnh=118&tbnw=72&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfishy%2Bstick%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=fishy+stick&usg=__l8_EkVBwZu20SMngomk_eNaqPs8=&sa=X&ei=SGzJTfjcEtDcsgbPxYGhAw&ved=0CEEQ9QEwBg

Thanks ! Je te réponds en anglais, c'est plus marrant. If you want, I have a Myspace where I put my compositions (http://www.myspace.com/nathan.einhorn). I've begin to compose not a year ago, and I've learn orchestration by ear with film musics. I've begin to learn how to mix few weeks ago, so I'm still an amateur at this level, and I use Cubase since 6 months maybe ?
I'm working on this track for about 3 months, but I was working on it on my free time, maybe one half hour per day ?

Gave me goosebumps lol

Wow, really ? Awesome ! I'm glad !

Really nice man, it seems you put some real effort into this! I don't understand anything of this kind of music (or any, for that instance :P ) but like almost everyone else, the only thing I have to criticize are the vocals, which could sound better. But it's a great work nonetheless! Good luck in trying to perfect it!

Thanks ! Well, I think I will release two version. A new one with better mix, and another one without the choirs. Or with the choir's voice played by another intrument (A bagpipe, why not? ^^)
That was facking awesome bro.

Thanks, bro !
