Skyrim - A malevolently childish dungeon Master

If yo0u've ever played Dungeons and Dragons, I wonder have you ever run into a dungeon master who loved his monsters too much? You know, the guy who creates the baddest baddies in the D&D universe, and then cries and throws tantrums when you kill them, or tries to cheat and take the victory away.

I'm starting to think Skyrim is that guy. Here's why.

At level 20, riding up the hill leading out of Anga's Mill, my character was attacked by a dragon. Yep, a plain old dragon using shock breath, and she killed it. When I went to save, it resulted in an immediate CTD, and the save was lost. So... Reload, ride back up the hill out of Anga's Mill, and my character was attacked by a Blood Dragon using a cold breath weapon. My character killed it, and I went to save... instant CTD, save lost.

My blood pressure went up to 500 over 450, my wife and cat hid in terror at the noises I was making and the cursing I was doing, and the neighbors threatened to call the cops.

Reload, ride back up the hill ot of Anga's Mill, and my character is attacked by a Forest Dragon! She killed that one too, I rode up the road a way, and tried to save. Instant CTD, save lost... So, when I got out of jail on bail, I...

Reloaded the game, rode up out of Anga's Mill, was attacked once again by a plain old dragon this time using frost breath. This time I immediately made a manual save, and quick saved every 30 seconds throughout the fight. I suppose it didn't make any difference, but speaking directly into my mike, I said "I know I play DiD, but I've killed three of your friggin dragons already, and even if you DO manage to kill her, I'm not going to let it count, and she's going on one way or the other you sorry sad sack excuse for a game!"

Not to worry, she killed this dragon too, but this time when I went to save it went smooth as silk...

I can't believe I had to kill FOUR dragons to get past one point, and I only collected ONE soul, 3 dragon bones and 3 dragon scales for my effort... but also the satisfaction of beating the game into submission. Just like a Dungeon Master I once had words with, eh?

Have you had instances where the game seemed like a childish brat?

On one of my old characters I decided to explore Cronvangr Cave, but everytime I approached the entrance my Xbox froze. I gave up after the 3rd attempt. Glad there wasn't an important quest associated with that place!

Not exactly the same thing, but my very 1st Skyrim character http://s1254.photobucket.com/user/Trace9569/media/HPIM1076a-1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1235 ( test. jane of all trades character) was in the middle of the MQ literally.

Opened up the Time wound... freeze

revert to save in H.H.... up the mountain.. open time wound...freeze

revert to save in Iverstead... up the mountain..open time wound...freeze

Revert to save....in the middle of Companions questline.. do the missing quests...up the mountain.. open time wound...freeze

rinse repeat,..( I had saves at the begining and end of all quests) .... lost all of the Companions questline, that had been completed, half the CoW and was at Blade in the Dark, before I deleted the character and played Oblivion for a couple days then started over. I was ready to play frizbee with my Skyrim disc, very glad I didn't.

Yeah, that's the kind of behavior I'm talking about. Suddenly you aren't permitted to survive, or continue... especially when you've been very successful up to that point.

It was annoying to say the least. I have had a couple of those moments with the PC, but mostly it's been mod conflicts or some other issue.

I had some friends in High School that played D & D, they would often talk about their game in class. That brings back some memories.. My own little geek squad... Thought Small engine repair would be an easy "A", they didn't realize you had to actually learn to weld and work on ...ummm small engines. :ooo:

When you get random encounter after random encounter...

The dungeon master gets mad cause you ruin every one of his creations.

It seems to me that those glitches occur right after I've found a rare random item in loot that perfectly suits my character. The Dungeon Master is saying, "Too much gloating. Start over and find four fur gauntlets this time." :)
