Skyrim map discussion

under windhelm says ___ ___ of divine birth?
maybe where we start out this game?

I see that has the ruler's name Ja-El P---- divine birth.
Whiterun has Jartes Claim, supreme ruler (some people upthread have read this as Falmer, so this is how I've read those fussy letters.)
Perhaps these are the two rulers igniting the civil war vying for overall rule of Skyrim and their raison d'etre.

The map looks pretty nice. The western part is indeed the Reach, it's visible on some of the "restored" maps. I think the region containing Whiterun is also called Whiterun, as best as I can tell, and is a tundra.

Also, now I'm curious. Shor's what?

Oh, if the bit next to Whiterun says "Supreme Ruler," then I'm pretty sure the other bit must be "Jsashe's Coven." The "Witch-Queen of Whiterun" Jsashe was a self-proclaimed "priestess of Lorkhan" who was the leader of a witches' coven and de facto ruler of Whiterun and the surrounding hold around the time of Oblivion.

No, I believe it says "Joel reskin/reshape". Isn't Joel like a level designer for Beth?

Hmm, I can read that as JoEl Reshape, yeah. However how does "of diviNe BIRTH" "so, the Greater?" refer to Joel reshaping Windhelm?

Secondarily, there was http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/3503/maplabels.png super imposing Arena's settlements. It had Dragon Wood over Kynesgrove. Kyne's daughters taught the Nords thu'um to begin with (lol at UESP not citing source for this) Thu'um now has now been identified as Dragonshout/speech. Grove can be read as a synonym for wood. So was Kyne the dragon of dragon wood? Implications, metaphors and implications, errywhere.

No idea, may be separate. Divine birth has to mean something.

"Shor's Shrine" is the only thing I could think of at the moment. But it appears to be a town, so... I dunno. The mountains just ruin any contrast that would help me make out the rest..

I hope ALL these Cities and larger towns have SEWER SYSTEMS. One thing that would be cool is if criminal gangs ruled each one...and there was an UNDERGROUND ECONOMY between them.

Shouldn't there be at least two roads leading south from the province, one from Riften to Cheydinhal, and one from Riverwood or Oakwood through Pale Pass to Bruma?

There are some hints as to the size of the map.. The roads never change map to map... also islands on the shores never change map to map...

Now looking at the maps id say sykrim has one heck of alot more spread out road system and it has ALOT and large islands...

Its a BIG [censored] map or those islands up top are realy tiny.

What? The roads are LINES. Why would they 'change'? I'm not sure what you mean. The shape of the country is of course the same as the old maps, islands or no islands. And there WERE no islands on the shore in other maps. And there actually aren't any now. Those 'Islands' are just ice, you can tell because they just off, white, from the mainland. And why do you think they're big? Maybe they are really tiny. Cyrodill had some small looking islands on it's map http://www.xbox365.com/gdb/images/GGdLLHLdPP02202340/Oblivion_22_500.jpg and guess what? They were tiny!

There's no reason whatsoever from that 'evidence' to suppose the game map will be huge.

I bet we start in Riften. I mean...look at the place. Right near the conjuncture of Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim. Out of all the major cities it looks like the smallest. It's also kind of snuggled away in its own little cubby hole with only two routes out: west and north. One takes you through a Cyrodiil-esqe Autumn forest, the other through Morrowind-esqe Volcanic Tundra. Reminds me of Pallet Town. A little.

I agree, I was thinking the same, looks like the perfect starting point. Your first goal would be to go to one of the cities: probably Windhelm and next Whiterun so you are in the center of the map. Ofcourse I'm just speculating ^^

Also I don't think it's a coincidence that there where screenshots of Riften in GI, its to expected that one of the first screenshots would be from the starting point.

Also, about the missing city: maybe there's an underground city? Some of the concepts in the video looked like they could be from an underground city, but I probably just imagined that. As far s I know they have actually never done a real underground city in a TES game, I wonder why not.

It's just an unfinished map. There are other towns there that just don't have completed designs and so are shown by squares of the area they occupy. Falkreath has 9 squares for example, so that's probably one of the major cities.

Oh yeah, now I noticed the unfinished 'blocks' for most of the cities/towns. At the same time this makes me think even more that we will start in Riften and go to Windhelm and Whiterun first, since these are the 3 places that seem to be 'finished' on the map. I assume the developers would start with the places we will visit first in the main quest so they can start work on the quest before other parts of the gameworld are finished.

Yeah, that would be cool, but it'll most likely end up being a mod.

Well, I believe Lore-Wise Cyrodill is huge. Just because Oblivion was only a few miles or so across, doesn't mean that Skyrim will be small. Seeing as they scaled down Cyrodill and it was still Cyrodill, they could build Skyrim on practically any scale they please.

If you cut off the part below Bravil so it's roughly Skyrim shaped, The Imperial City seems to be to Cyrodill a similar size Whiterun is to Skyrim. So I'm hoping Skyrim is larger than Cyrodill.

exactly, it seems that each of the major cities have fill about as much as the Imperial city, so either the cities are actually large this time around (let's hope) or the map is quite a lot smaller

They said that 5 of them were 'massive', whatever tha means, perhaps Imperial city size and up, but we can only hope.

Okay, I'm really really stupid, so how is this relevant to the current context, please explain. And I thought you just saidFallout was bigger.

EDIT:Wait, you're a different person. But I still don't get what this means to the Skyrim map.
