I've updated it, adding Solitude as the name of the Northwestern hold. I don't know for sure, but it's my best guess, as it is listed as a county in the Imperial library. Still, it is 200 years later, so I could be wrong, but I have both maps just in case.

Very nice. Why is snow shaded blue and tundra white though? Shouldn't it be the other way?

I dunno. That was just how they had it and I didn't think it worth trying to change in case it made the edges look weird (since I'm not a perfect area selector).

Oh, but "The dragonborn", that information on Luke Skyrimmer's map is wrong. He chose them because of the number of cells they took up on the map, not how large they were traditionally, and for that reason I am inclined to agree with his choices.

It's a good idea, but you'll see it covers the names of some places. Don't worry, I'll use my original layered version to do one underneath.

Good catch Dragonbone, I'll update the post with your correction. Thanks!

Ya know that looks alot like the Oblivion map. With the 2 lower provinces included.

You've got Anvil on the left, Leyawin on the right, the main imperial city in the centre, etc.

Some of the town names are wrong, though. Dragon Wood looks something like Kynesgrove, while Vernim Wood is Something Crossing (can't make out the first word)

It also looks like the river in the northwest divides two holds - look at the coloring on the map.

It would seem that in recent maps, Kynesgrove was renamed Dragon Wood. I do see the crossing thing now you mention it, though it's not listed on any other maps.

I'm editing it now to increase the accuracy, but until I can find a name for that crossing place, I'm just going to keep it as Vermin Wood. I also think Nimalten may be Sunguard.

I'm still absolutely certain that there are two Holds in the northwest, divided by the river. Not just because the coloring is different, but also because Skyrim is supposed to have nine Holds, and I can't see where else the ninth would be.

Hmm... maybe... although I guess it's also possible that 1 hold was lost in the 200 years. Here's the only image I could find supposedly showing the holds.

As you can see, not only is the shape of th eholds different, but the whole kingdom, so I doubt it's accuracy and was probably fan made. Here, though, they have 2 holds in the south where Falkreath hold is now.

Also, it's a bit weird that as far as we can see, there are no large settlements in the Reach.

I just noticed something... interesting... so far two bethesda games have used a mapping system where there are squares arranged in eother a 3 by 3 grid of boxes within a sector or by a 4 by 4 grid in a sector..

I HAD assumed the squares on this map were the boxes.... they arnt they are the sectors.there are fainter lines in a 3 by 3 grid within each square and some of the finished cities line up with those smaller lines...

What this means is im back to knowing nothing about the size of the map because now im fairly sure I have no clue whatsoever how large anything is anymore.

I just noticed something too. Something even more interesting IMO. Going out from Solitude into the browny grey area, there's either a hold division or a road, and at the end of that road, there appears to be a faint outline of a city, like with Riften, Whiterun etc. What's even weirder is that there is nothing in that direction on traditional maps. And there's writing above it that seems to begin with an S. This might be the name of the potential hold here if I'm wrong and that's not actually a city, but perhaps it is the city name.

The name starting with S is Solitude, unless you're referring to a less obvious one.

It's a less obvious one, Southwest of Solitude. Someone actually noted it here, where Solitude is clearly visible in writing as well.. http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/509/skyrimholds.jpg

Judging by the font size, that looks like the name of Solitude's Hold.

You note the entire time they show this map they have the camera in exactly the same spot at a certain distance from the map...

I think there are alot of bits we cant see because the camera couldnt pick up the details say of penciled in bits from that distance and that they put the camera far enough back that that would happen..

I'm still confused as to why snow is represented by blue and tundra is ice. It should be the other way around.

Edit: I don't even see the white tundra part on the map. Is it the whiterun and markath side section?

Maybe that is Solitude's hold, which means that the lower half is another hold, and on closer inspection it looks like it starts with H and ends with ch or ck. Still, it does look like a city outline.
