Skyrim map discussion

If you have another look, Riften doesn't look all that big.

You can see the outline of the word "Solitude" in the top left, and it looks like it might be a major city (hard to tell though.

And if those gray areas are cities/towns, to the north you can see some grey, thats roughly where winterhold is. No way to tell if its big or not though.

I think it was said that the time frame of the game is 200 years after Oblivion. Alot of land changes can be made during 200 years. I'm still expecting the climate to be the same or similar but the cities and regions can change in that time frame.

Who knows mabe the dreaded "GW" word that is forbidden here was happening even then?

Global Warming?

Edit- didn't see the GW part lol srry

The scale is different for all games.

For example, the according to the maps, the gameworld in TES2: Daggerfall is smaller than the gameworld in TES4: Oblivion, but that's really not the case as Daggerfall is many times larger than Oblivion.

Actually, looking at the top down view and comparing it to the angled view the top down view looks more scaled than the angeled view. I guess it's just the way the picture is. It's hard to tell from a video clip really.

Yea, it was a joke.

All of those yellow squares...I'm trying to make them out, but from the blurry names they sound like Dwemer ruin names. I could have my lore all messed up though.

Or Falmer ruins. It's good there aren't many.

They may not be elven ruins, though. They could easily be Atmoran monoliths and forts. Or native settlements.

You have to remember that 1/3 of the exterior cells in oblivion were outside the reachable regions
+ on that map all the squares on that map are not simular in size i think :)

Just a thought

Also...how big is Oblivion in comparison to New Vegas?

I think I see Saarthal on the west coast of the peninsula where Windhelm would be.

Just north of Whiterun someone wrote what looks to me like, "Jartes Clan" and, "Supreme Falmer". What do you suppose that means?

There is a link to a close up map http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1157211-skyrim-information-explanation-and-compilation/ Also there is information about what can be seen on the map for those that can't read it very well.

Whiterun is in its original Arena location. To the northwest of it is Labyrinthian, also from Arena.
Falkreath has become a region (Falkreath Hold? Hall?) in the southwest.

Two things:

  • This is an old video, and old map, so some of the towns and places are not developed yet and only their cells are shaded to show their future places.
  • The cells of the grid should be larger that the cells from Oblivion, so the scale is larger.

I'm a bit disappointed there isn't a shift in borders, or at least not shown on this map.
Dragonstar doesn't seem to be included as a border city. And to me, Dawnstar seems to be one of the big 5 and Winterhold just a smaller city.
Surprisingly the Reach doesn't have a river running through the valley, but the mountains look odd. A glacier?

I see Labyrinth, to the west of the Pale, in the mountains north of Whiterun.

Could the Labyrinthian from Arena be making a reappearance?

Uhhh, can't read. I would LOVE to see Dwemer ruins, but are you sure ? Were there any Dwemer in Skyrim ? For those orange square to the southeast, that's close to Morrowind for lore, perhaps. But in full middle of the map ?

*edit* You may be right in your reading, though. I see "and" and "mz", and that's oddly reminiscent indeed.

Kudos if you turn out to be right ; and in any case, it's a good dream. :)

If you're talking about that area to the west I think that's the big ass canyon that's supposed to be in western Skyrim.

Whenever you're worried about lore and retcon, just remember: Cyrodiil was a jungle until Oblivion.

I know I may spout that a lot, but it's a good mantra

Look for the orange squares, east and middle of the map.

True enough : I seem to remember only the imperial city was any city, never mind no big Skingrad. They could retcon a dwemer colony, or something. "Oh lookee, we didn't know about that !".

Oh I see them. If they were only towards the very edge around Morrowind I'd believe it, but because its in the middle of the map i'm gonna say its Nord ruins.
@Davis- Thank you :)

I mentioned it in the other thread, but there are massive gray shaded areas that correspond with Falkreath and Dawnstar, so the fifth city is possibly one of the two.

Either that, or the towns are going to be huge.

Sure does look like a long ass "I'd like to buy a vowel" Dwemer name at the south. :D
