Skyrim Map

Okay, many of those watching the Behind-the-scenes video will have done this... here's my take on the subject: the map undistorted, and somewhat restored.

I would have liked to sharpen the western side of the map, but that would require a lot of re-drawing. I don't have a tablet and can't draw with a mouse at all... I'd be glad if someone with more artistic talent than me would use my map as a base and bring out more glorious detail!

Looks like there could be alot of small settlements to get missions from...or those are caves. I hope those are little towns because if theres that many of those theres even more caves and ruins to explore.

Well there are supposed to be five massive cities...

I see Riften, Solitude, Whiterun, Windhelm, and...

That's it...

I think I can make out Winterhold near the top, but it doesn't look very massive...

I think I may be blind (well I am a bit), but I can't seem to see the boundaries of the cities. How are people saying that they're big?

I wonder what's the long-stretching rock feature in the west. A canyon maybe? Comparing it to the size of the cities, that thing is quite massive... could make for some very interesting scenery.

There are two cites along the northern coast, in the Winterhold region (most likely Winterhold proper and Dawnstar) whose labels, if they had any, would be off-camera. Most likely one of them is the fifth main city.

"Volcanic Tundra" and "Fall Forest" look like descriptions of the Eastmarch and Rift regions, respectively.

If this map gets shipped with the game, i will be very happy. The Oblivion map was pretty useless to be honest, I only used it once because i couldn't find silver fish river for the shrine of pyrite. The Morrowind map was awesome. This one looks alot more helpful aswell.

based off what i can see, the 5 major cities will be Riften, Whiterun, Windhelm, Solitude, and Winterhold?

I'm not sure on winterhold. It's a different font size to the others and lacks the city icon.

I think i see something on the far left of the map in a similar font (beginning with a C) but can't be sure. It's location roughly corresponds to Karthwasten but there isn't enough letters for it to be that. Also it makes sense for there to be a city there as it balances out the map.

From what I can understand, this is a relatively old video, and some of the towns are not yet developed, and only their cells are shaded to show where they should be.

It's the Dragonbrand, doh wrong game. :obliviongate:

It's probably The Reach: canyons and mesas according to the PGE 1st editions.

its a map dude, not a GPS scan

edit - perhaps winterhold is an old fortress from of the last akaviri invasion?

On December 15th, Nick Breckon said he recorded the podcast with Todd Howard. http://twitter.com/nickbreckon/status/15088431805759488
In the podcast, they said GameInformer visited their office last week.
Today's GI article says they filmed the tour.
We can say that the map on the wall is about a month old.

I think it simply says "Full Forest". As in: please put a lot of trees in this area.

The colored rectangles are probably where you can find shrines and other interesting stuff, it's on the legend on the bottom left... cough*spoiler*ehrm... fortunately I can't read it. Going to forget that I saw that anyway. ;)

There's are two massive gray shaded areas that correspond with Dawnstar and Falkreath's location. The other cities are also shaded in gray. The mysterious fifth city is probably one of the two.

I'm betting Falkreath.

Hmm, by counting the number of pixels inside the Skyrim borders and dividing that by 11x11 pixels for one cell (if the squares on the map are indeed cells), I get around 3900 cells.
Might be interesting to compare this to Morrowind and Oblivion, although we don't know if the cells are actually comparable.

Yeah I know, that's why I'm asking. There's no indication on how big the cities are, yet some people are saying they're huge.

Probably mostly because the GI article said "5 massive cities".

Also, this map is probably from early to mid development, so it's probably unfinished.

It appears (judging by font size) Winterhold is not one of the five massive cities the article mentions. Which bodes well for the game! What I gather from that is we will indeed have our five massive cities alongside smaller-average cities and settlements. :celebration: (hopefully)

I've taken your map and numbered/lettered quite a few of the areas where the words are, some are probably off set.

I don't want to get any body's hopes up, but I think there might be a Dwemer Ruin below Riften as the blurry spelling looks very Dwemer like, either Ng or Nfg

I'm disappointed about Winterhold. :sadvaultboy: perhaps the Dragons Kvatch'd it?

I sure hope the college survived otherwise... :brokencomputer:
