Skyrim Maps

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 11:46 am

Wow, all you people are really good with the lay of the land. I'm a terrible map reader with a terrible sense of direction so the compass in OB was quite helpful for me. That being said, for Skyrim, I'm turning off quest markers and will decrease compass opacity and see if I can find my way around using my "feels like burlap-cloth" map that comes with my pre-order.

OP, nice idea and with the help of others I'm sure you'll be able to create something more accurate.

its wrong for us to do this ...
we are setting ourselves up for let downs, just like was felt @ Oblivions release, we had preset ideas of what to expect ... mainly from news articles (gameinformer and such) then @ time of release it was NOTHING like what we had immagined ... even things we were SURE of and had confirmation on simply were different then the actual reality of what we took home.

Yea except we watched a video of skyrim, so we know where these things are. Plus I don't think the locations of the cities on the map is any different than in the game, so I don't get how we're "setting ourselves up for let downs."

where you have Greenwood it is a town called http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8613775/Skyrim/Maps/ShorsShrineorStone.jpg. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8613775/Skyrim/Maps/ShorsSomething.jpg

Also missing Morthal, the capital of the Hold called Hjaalmarch (in the mountain south of where you placed Dunstad Grove). Ft Snowhawk is a bit to the west of Morthal.

But Todd crosses the river to get to it, so shouldn't it be north of Riverwood across the river? Riverwood being on the south bank with the Throat of the World and Bleak Falls Barrow being opposite that to the North. rf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imH4Ncoe9Gs at 4:50

I wasn't disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised.

Isn't Throat of the World in the wrong spot?

I think you're getting mixed up. The 'THROAT OF THE WORLD' wording is on the Throat of The World (Base of the highest peak in Skyrim). Bleak falls barrow is marked by a dot just like 'Demo Start' and 'Todd Dragon Fight'.

Nine cities get the coat of arms treatment. These are the capitals of each of the nine Holds. According to the devs, however, there are only 5 large cities.

Morthal is almost certainly on the smaller end of the spectrum and it also gets the icon on the CE map because it is the capital of Hjaalmarch Hold.

Yes it is :D It's about the size of Oblivion BUT look at all those climbable mountains! Would take alot of time climbing them, not to mention the 7000 steps to The Throat of The World :P And that's just the surface, there are about 150 dungeons, half of which are 1-2 hours long !!

The demo pathway is better, but still not right. Remember that Todd first walks down to the river, and then starts walking alongside it before he reaches Riverwood.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xwboyafbwc#t=04m48s Todd actually makes his way slightly northeast until he gets to the river, then he follows it (going northeast) to Riverwood, before he crosses the river using the Riverwood bridge and rides up the mountain and heads west to Bleak Falls Barrow.
(The Guardian Stones are the downward-facing "pointer" next to the river, south of Bleak Falls Barrow.)

Otherwise, I really like the map and the enviromental notes and screenshots. :)
