Skyrim Maps

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 8:43 pm

Here is my humble input:

I don't think the color zones are indicators of terrain type. (Though assuredly Whiterun is on tundra, etc.) Instead, the colored areas look like geopolitical zoning to me. We've been told that the guards in one area won't care about crimes you've committed in another area. I think we're looking at a jurisdiction map, among other things.

If true:
- It makes sense that the Throat of the World is not under the jurisdiction of any town.
- It would suggest that if you're wanted by the law, you can travel between zones by sticking to the mountains or coast, for the most part.

Here is an actual map, pieced together from some video of the Bethesda offices and then edited, not the best but it gives you some more ideas on what is where:

Does this mean that the upper map in the following link was NOT released by Bethesda?

The thing is that if it's a jurisdiction map, it's not reliable at all. There should be 9 Holds not 8 (I presume the upper most blue-area isn't a hold, if it is there must be some kind of underwater city or something).

Great point. Unless two Holds are allied.... Or, maybe there are two rulers in one of the port cities (husband and wife?), one holds jurisdiction over the land and the other the sea? Okay, a huge stretch there. :)

That coastline zone isn't just the ocean, though... there's a fair amount of land involved, too. Most political entities are pretty fussy over access to the sea, so that does bring that into question too.

It's because Winterhold and The Pale are two different Holds.

Thank you. Should that be the case, then shame on Gameranx for bad journalism. The very first sentence: "Bethesda has released the map of Skyrim, and with it, a detailed account on where everything we have seen of the game has occurred."

Sorry for introducing any confusion.

The World Eater makes speculation map on the Skyrim forum, Gameranx writes news article about it, a thread is made on the Skyrim forum about said article. :D

And Gameranx really need to check their sources better, nowhere in The World Eaters thread was it stated that the fan-made basis map was official.

Most people don't seem to notice but The Reach on the left side looks like a giant glacier cracked in half, I can't wait to see what it looks like, its going to be awesome, and no screenshots of anywhere near that place have been shown yet.

Bethesda has released the http://www.gameranx.com/img/11-Sep/skyrim-5.jpg, and with it, a detailed account on where everything we have seen of the game has occurred. / By Ian Miles Cheong

That looks like the same map thats been floating around for months, nothing new.

"Game journalists" are fond of publishing any and all stuff they glean from these forums, and they don't always credit the source.

A recent magazine preview said it's home to Markarth, one of the "seven wonders" of Skyrim.

So... none of these are actually real? I feel more let down than when I realized I was out of sugar for my coffee this morning.

One of the main places I can't wait to visit, looks pretty epic to say the least.
Also, there is a screenshot from there. http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/markarth/
