Skyrim MAY allow you to ride dragons

Said by Todd himself. If dragon riding happens, I bet the game will be really laggy

I don't think the game wil be laggy, technology has change and Bethesda has improove their engine...so if Dragon Flying is a fact it would be super fun!!!!

Hehe. You know I have a feeling he just said that to shut up those who kept begging for it after he originally said "No, that's not how we're approaching them".

So why is it such a bad feature?
How is it worse than, say, levitation?

Even in lore, if a dragon allows you to ride them, you should, problem is that dragons aren't seem to be very fond of mortals...

I remember that there was a dragon-mod for Oblivion... flying your dragon basically allowed you to travel across the entire game world in about 10 minutes, discovering every dungeon you passed over....

I would have to ask why would you need to do it? As a form of faster travel? Not needed if fast travel is already in place. I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool to do, but the coolness would wear off pretty quick.

This is definately something that needs to be left to the modders.

I doubt it'll be implemented. The drawing distance might be too much for consoles to handle (unless you want to see nothing but fog below you). That'll be surely mods-exclusive.

You answered yourself. I'm not against the game mechanics of flying around, I'm against belittling the dragons this way.

And you know?

Exactly. Not to mention the world is just too small. If you could fly a dragon, you'd cross it in minutes. And get an overpowered method of dealing with enemies, and have some major issues trying to fly into cities.

Okay, maybe it will be laggy.

And maybe it wouldn't work.

But, if they found a way to make it work WELL, I would really enjoy burnanating all the peasants. :flamed:

A few posts have gone away that were rude and condescending. Please take care of how you phrase your replies.

riding dragons if implented it should be harsh to ride a dragon, dragons are intelligent beings by far more intelligent than the average human ... They don't let anyway one right on them, not every morron should be able to ride a dragon .. I also can assume that dragons want that you do chores for them before you can ride on them , maybe even killing rivales ...

If I refer to Dragonlance Books, dragonriders are pretty rear, fearfull and dragons also have a temperment .....

But that is another universe .... In the Elder Scrolls Universe dragons are more less nearly myhtical ....

In dragonlance universe they used to be tyrans of that world ...

What's the big deal with riding/becoming dragons? Piggy backs on giants sounds much more fun, and that's before we even start to think about mammoth jousting.

I think we should only be able to ride if our game completion is at a certain %, we play hardcoe and we play WITHOUT quest markers

I could bet this would be a dlc even before I heard Todd didn't reject it. I am not a fan of this feature, but as long as it's something optional, hell, why not :D I'm all for options.

I think it will work if we use like a baby/teenage dragon to ride, and not one of the massive bigger ones

The article took his words out of context and turned a "we might look into supporting it" into we may implement it >_>.

I agree with Bone essentially that's a pacifier for people yelling to ride dragons, personally I'm like the fux, your iffy on spell creation,No levitation becuase of walled cities or imbalancing/exploits, removed the ability to mix up dragon shouts, and a whole host of more grounding features... But you entertain the idea of a gimmick like riding dragons

And the only instance of dragon riding in lore was a fable about a guy who -tricked- a dragon stabbed it in the neck and forced it to fly a kill a army...

How about instead of being able to fly your dragon super high up and cause a ton of lag to consoles due to draw distances and such, maybe have it where you can only fly up to like 50ft. In the air and go maybe slightly faster than the fastest horse in Skyrim (If they're in.)

As for walled cities? Invisible barriers is the only option I see, yeah it ruins immersion, but it's the only viable option the way I'm looking at it.

I fail to see how my previous post was in any way rude or inappropriate. It wasn't directed at anyone in particular and it contained no foul language.

Anyway...

As I said, it's simply a bad idea and I really hope Bethesda stick to their better judgement on this matter.

As others have pointed out, there are a number of reasons why it's a bad idea:

1) The map is far too small for it. Walking around on foot, Skyrim will feel fairly large and epic in nature. Flying above it from one end to the other will simply highlight how small it really is and be completely unflattering.
2) Problems with draw distance. Again, unflattering to the gameworld and likely to cause a lot of lag.
3) Making light of dragons who are supposed to be intelligent and highly dangerous creatures, not pets you can summon and fly around on.
4) The obvious issue with cities not being open.
5) I very much doubt it would offer anything at all to the gameplay experience other than being a cheap thrill.

If you want this feature that badly, just wait for a mod to surface. There will inevitably be one that lets you fly dragons.

It's not really that hard to do, 've seen a similar thing done in DQ8 on the PS2. If they wanted it in, they would find a way to make it work. Or half work (this is Bethesda after all). I don't think they'll bother, though.

I rather have it for DLC. That way I can see how other people react to it and see if it is worth a buy.
